AMSTERDAM, 03/11/06 - Aliens Affairs Minister Rita Verdonk unlawfully deported a radical Imam from the Netherlands. The district court in Amsterdam ruled yesterday that there was insufficient evidence that he was undermining state security.The Imam, Eisha Bersham of the Al Fourqaan mosque in Eindhoven, posed a danger to national security, according to the AIVD secret service. Based on the AIVD's conclusion, Verdonk declared the Imam an undesirable alien on 15 June 2005. This meant she did not renew his residence permit.
The Amsterdam district court yesterday quashed the ministerial decision. The AIVD and the minister may have correctly concluded that the Al Fourqaan mosque was a feeding-ground for Jihad recruitment and that the Imam did too little against this. But deportation was still unlawful.
The AIVD's conclusions are not so unequivocal that it can be said that the Imam was personally and actively involved in the radicalisation of a group of mosque visitors, explained the judge. The Imam could therefore not be called a danger to national security in 2005, ran the verdict.
At least that mosque was closed, right?
This is one of those moments when old men will look back and realize they were wrong, horribly wrong.

So, Al Fourqaan mosque was a feeding-ground for Jihad recruitment and the Imam did little to challenge such yet, he's not considered a danger to national security. What more do you need to deem such a character as an "undesirable alien"? Depraved indifference convinces me. And what about his buddies from the same mosque who were labeled as dangers and were deported. What, was Bersham the voice of reason?
But, I give Verdonk her due. Yes, she dropped the ball on Hirsi Ali but she's a force to be reckoned with when it comes to oustin' the radicals. Hopefully, she'll win appeal on this one. Three down and a litany to go.

Uh, no not really. Last night, when I drove past it, it was still very much open.
The account we read here is too vague to draw all the conclusions we might if:
* we really know this guy is jihadist
* he really recruits more jihadis
* etc. etc.

TODAY that is not enough (to deport this imam who has set up shop in this mosque) BECAUSE OF most of our lofty ideals which err on the side of "human rights." Yeah I know this is Holland we are talking about--but this sounds the very same as all western countries, where rights are "major" would handle this same thing. That being said:

Since the city wouldn't surrender to the German army, a carpet bombing attack was ordered by German high command. From Wikipedia: "It is estimated that between 800 and 900 people were killed in the raid and some 70,000 people were made homeless. Around 1 square mile (2.6 square kilometres) of the city were almost completely leveled. 24,978 homes, 24 churches, 2,320 stores, 775 warehouses and 62 schools were destroyed. Rotterdam was meant as an example, as Germany threatened to bomb a number of other Dutch cities. The Dutch Army had no means of stopping the bombers (the Dutch Air Force was practically non-existent at this point in the war), and therefore the Dutch government decided to capitulate rather then suffer a manifold of the casualties at Rotterdam"

Robert, Eisha Bersham is one of four imams of the mosque who were slated for deportation. All I can say here is, all four are bad. My guess is that the Dutch intelligence services won't put forward what they have on him to this Amsterdam district court. Let's hope Verdonk has a higher court to appeal to.
