What sucks about living in America is that the vast majority of people are so insulated from evil that it's hard for them to understand, let alone confront it. We don't understand that there can be someone we don't know miles away in some ass-backward country that wishes us dead because their belief system tells them too. Look at all the Cold War "Sister City" programs and other such nonsense. We honestly believe reason and dialouge can overcome disagreements, and that said disagreements are just the result of 'misunderstandings'.
That's it. I'm going to write an article about Rosie O'Donnel and Elton John. They've been pissing me off too much lately.
Rosie O’Donnell needs to take some walking tours, without the entourage. A relative of mine was working in a Muslim country and was housed with locals. His host family had a dispute with another family. One mother took the other’s infant and threw it to the ground. A warm and compassionate society.
Too show solidarity with Muslim women around the world, maybe Rosie should cover her face, stay in her room, and shut up for a month.
The ironic thing about all this is that people like Rosie: women who are loud mouthed, opinionated, lesbian and liberally anti-religious will be the first among those executed in places where people believe in the goodness of the world but fail to acknowledge the evil in the world as well. Evil does exist. Evil has an agenda and will have no qualms about doing what it takes to get its way.
It's not wrong to realize that and to take action to protect the goodness in the world. That's one of the problems.
People who insist on taking Rosie's perspective will survive in places like the United States. She is protected here.
People like Rosie in places like Sudan, Somalia, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Iran, Pakistan, Afghanistan and so on are dead.

I find Rosie to be insufferable. She wanted to be liked on her own talk show so she acted "nice" (and "straight"). I never bought it but she wasn't so offensive then.
I don't watch The View but I have seen some clips of Rosie making her arrogant points. She raises her voice, then uses her size to intimidate. If someone doesn't immediately agree with her, she moves toward them, invading their personal space, and places her hand on them to assert her dominance and shut them up. I'd hate to be her child.

2.) One of the prices,(penalties?) about believing in the Judeo-Christian god Yahweh is that you will come to find something along the way that He prohibits that you like, either to do or not do. This could be coveting someone elses spouse,(man, don't that look fine!),
to trying not to judge others. He is definitely against sex outside of marriage. In the Old Testament homosexuality is not a sin, it's an "abomination unto the face of God". What's that? Well, I can say that it is not pleasing in His eyes, yeah, and I don't know any parent holding their child for the first time and saying to their spouse, "Gee honey, I hope it grows up to be gay!" No, we view homosexuality in the same vein as we do deafness, colorblindness, or any other phisical frailness. It saddens our hearts but it does not keep us from loving the child.
That said, having known enough homosexuals in my life I know enough to understand that this is not a "personal choice" issue. Why the Lord my God wired these folks this way I can't guess, (and I'm so glad he didn't make me that way, but I know enough to hate the sin, not the sinner.
The challenge for us is not how repulsive these peoples lives, attitudes, viewpoints or pablum that they spew forth is, it's how do we, knowing better, reach them so that they can see what we know, (Islam=Hate) and make them repeaters of the news. Until these liberal talking-heads get it that Islam is Nazism in spades, they are not going to carry the message.
To answer Rodney King's old question, "No, we can't all get along" when one group of us (Muslims), is trying to enslave or murder the rest of us. That's the message.

Beautiful! I love your poem! But I beg to differ with you on Elton's songs going down hill recently. I haven't heard anything worth listening to out of him since his Caribou album which came out in the mid 70's. After that, it all sounds like the same song to me.
As for Miss Rosie, she's never been a very happy person. If she's such a Lesbian then why was she with a guy before? Sounds like she makes it up as she goes along and then expects everyone to kiss her butt when she changes her mind. But Rosie McDonnell just isn't that important in the scheme of things and certainly not enough to change everyone else's beliefs to suit her own. Who cares what she thinks? And why, as the insignificant person that she is, was she brought on that terminally boring, self serving bitch-fest? To shake things up? To torture poor Miss H? I wrote to the show the last time (re: her comparison of radical Islam and radical Christianity). I just don't have the patience to deal with this sort of idiocy anymore. Her points don't even make sense.
You would think that five seconds of thought would remind her that under Islamic law, she would be in very real fear for her life. And yet she says these things. It boggles my mind.
What is the thought process for coming up with such conclusions? Because truly, it is beyond me.

I detest mountainous egos like Ms. O'Donnell's. But I live in Hollywood, and have had some celebrities for neighbors over time. It doesn't take long in a conversation sometimes to hear the crazy things they get exposed to because of their fame. It even sometimes affects people who live around them. I've even been warned about a stalker on one occasion. While I hardly condone O'Donnell's obvious stupidity, I do infer something in it that may not be obvious on the surface to everyone.
I have no doubt that O'Donnell has received many crazy death threats in her career -- lunatics have probably wished her ill for her hair cut, her sexuality -- whatever -- and she's probably heard from a rich and diverse cross section of insane persons over the years. I also have no doubt that she wildly extrapolates her personal experiences into the wider non-celebrity world. After all she's the emotional and gravitational center of her own dark patch of the universe, her ego is even larger than her hulking carcasse, and that is saying something.
So imagining that she has probably received some nasty fan mail over time, it's then easy to imagine this pinhead might tar the entirety of certain groups for which she already harbors hostility and which her tiny brain associates directly with a particular threat. She clearly can't differentiate between her fantasy of the world and the real world -- and at this point her experience of the 'real world' as the rest of us experience may be non-existent.
So with persons like her, a single letter from a nut, or a few dozen from various nuts claiming Christian grievances can be extrapolated to all Christians. In the end, Rosie O'Donnell is the thing she professes to hate. This hysterical colloidal mass known fondly by the throng as "Rosie" has shown herself to be a stupid, small minded potentially dangerous bigot suffering from delusions based on her own flimsy grip of reality. She is a genuine and hypocritical slab of hogmeat.

I saw Rosie's true colors way back when she had her own show and had invited Tom Selleck on as her guest and then treated him very badly because somehow the subject of guns and gun control came up and they weren't on the same page. She got out of line with him and if memory serves me correctly, I think he walked off the set. She is a loud mouthed left wing loony who should be taken off the airwaves. I don't get the appeal of having her as a t.v. personality. Imagine all the money she makes for being a dingbat. Unfreakenbelievable.

Of course, the Soviets were hardly as dangerous in 1985 as they had been in 1945 or 1955, but they were still a threat. I like they way Sting dismisses "ideology" as though it is of no importance. The rest of the song heavily implies that the real threat is Americans who believe the Soviets could possibly present any kind of real danger (sound familiar?).
Also, of course, many terrorists are *not* parents, but are sexually frustrated youths addled with the vision of pliant dark-eyed houris awaiting them in paradise after their grisly shaheed deaths.
The idea that the only alternatives are "faith" or "fear" is absurd. You hear this a lot. Of course, it is not a good thing to live in fear of a threat (and here it is implied that the threat either does not exist or is exagerated).
But to think that your only alternative is a naive "faith" that all people are good and everything will work out OK is as bad. also, this is a strange dicotomy for someone to set up who has bodyguards for her own kids.
Ideally, you try to see a threat clearly for what it is and try to deal with it objectively, neither exagerating it or minimizing its scope. First, you have to educate yourself--something Ms. O'Donnell seems loathe to do.
