MOGADISHU, Somalia - The president of a semiautonomous region in northeastern Somalia said Monday he will rule according to Islamic law, a surprising announcement in an area that has resisted the spread of Islamic militants who control much of the country's south.
Puntland President Gen. Addeh Museh did not cite a reason for his decision, but it comes amid increasing fears that the Council of Islamic Courts will try to seize his territory.
The move also isolates Somalia's official government, which has watched helplessly as the Islamic movement steadily gained ground since June. The U.N. envoy to Somalia tried to bolster the fragile administration Monday, urging leaders to restart peace talks with the Islamists in order to avert a war.

Puntland, which declared itself an autonomous state within Somalia in 1998, has generally been spared the violence that has wracked much of the rest of the country. But radicals within the Islamic courts have vowed to take over.
"I set up a committee of scholars and traditional leaders to implement sharia law," Museh said in his presidential decree. Puntland usually enforces a secular penal code, even though the region's charter says it is based on sharia law.
That arrangement is similar to that of Somaliland, another breakaway region in the north of Somalia. Its constitution sets up a democratic government, but contains the same "Sharia time bomb" (see Ch. 1, Article 5) as the constitution of Afghanistan (see Ch. 1, Article 3), which can be cited to override secular law at any time. Then, this decision by Puntland puts pressure on both the territory of Somaliland, and its legal ability to resist the erosion of existing democratic institutions by creeping Sharia law.
If this is a move meant to placate the Council of Islamic Courts it may or may not work. But who cares? Our only concern should be to divide and weaken Somalia, perhaps to see it in a state of permanent unrest and internecine warfare, using up whatever resources its people or petty rulers manage to obtain from this or that outside group of Muslim supporters. And with all immigration from Somalia barred, permanently -- given what has already been the unhappy result of the Somali communities from Lewiston, Maine, exhausting local welfare resources, to Minneapolis, Minnesota, where Somalis (some of the same ones, no doubt, who refuse to pick up passengers at the airport if they are carrying duty-free liquor packages.
Take every opportunity to allow Muslim natures --the natural aggression, the easy recourse to tribal and group warfare, solved only when a despot comes to power -- to take their course. Allow, by refusing to intervene, the growth and evolution of those attitudes that arise naturally in societies suffused with Islam. It's cost-effective. It's untroubling to observe. It's most instructive for those outside Infidels who need yet another Demonstration Project in the nature of Islam, and of states and peoples on Islam.
Cry me a river, all somali are muslims. Sharia is what they all wish for us, let them enjoy it. I encourage all muslims to move to somalia puntland and enjoy themselves.
Creeping Sharia law
I prefer to use Creeping Islamism - reminds me of the Cold War when the concern was Creeping Socialism. Oh, how I wish for the good old days of 1959. In retrospect the conflict with communism seems like such good times, much like a picnic compared to what we are facing now.
The Puntland president now says, after declaring to either kill or deport the new Islamic Courts founders, that "our decision that to use Islamic law will be different from the type of militant Islam"

The genius of Mohammed's design is that Islam's primary weapon is composed of men, women, and children.
The Moslem Human Weapon is tremendously adaptable, and very tough to fight cuz one must impugn oneself in order to do that.
Also getting high marks from the Military Channel is the weapon's incrementalism, as seen in Puntland, where it'll take an inch until it has a mile, then take a deep breath, and go back to digging with small shovels.
Also impressive is the Islam Weapon's relentlessness, as witnessed over the last 1,383 yrs. It's expansion only stops where absolutely necessary, and immediately restarts when constraints put on it eases.
The weapon's targeting system is also effective, although it has been known to turn on its own kind, much like horny males bears during rut. Military Channel gives the Islam Weapon mediocre marks for Targeting for that reason.
The weapon is off the chart on the Fear Factor criterion, where a quick glance at Dubya's narrowly set eyes one can see his simmering terror.
I see a story like this and I think of what would happen in a place hit by a disaster that lacks law and order. A lot of the time people in a situation like that will come up with draconian and often crazy laws. That's sharia-draconian and crazy.

You are a realist who knows that fanatics will do what fanatics do and its better that it be contained where it's done. Reason will prevail only when the fanatics finish their work-one way or the other.
There is sentimental side to Americans re immigration. My ancestors (except my grandmother who was born in England) were Irish Catholics fleeing the ignorance of the old world. They embraced America as a place to be free of oppressive belief-systems and as a land of secular education and opportunity. (We have done well here-God bless the USA.) Many of the Muslim folks want to bring all the garbage of the old world with them. They treat belief-systems as if they are absolute truth and haul this crap into America.
Treating beliefs as if they are facts is mental illness in Northern Ireland or in Muslim world. It stinks.
The essential difference is that we wanted and want to leave the crap behind and they want to bring it here. They have to be stopped. It's amazing that anyone would want that garbage here.

It's just incredible to me that Saudi Arabia is considered an ally to the United States. How can you ally yourself with barbarians! If it weren't for the oil, I just can't imagine that we would be friends with anyone in the Mideast, except maybe Israel!
Twenty years ago, I was in the Military, and one of my NCO's told me of a story where he was in Saudi Arabia. One of the Saudi guards on the base fell asleep while on duty. The Saudi's supervisor walked by, saw him sleeping, and shot him point blank in the head!!!
I'll never forget that story! It kept me awake many times while pulling 16 hour shifts in the military!

I could tell you one reason for that: There were NO Communist Party Clubs in Dearborn, London, Amsterdam or Koppenhagen. The NATO armies DID NOT provide room and time for communists to conduct Party meetings, commies WERE NOT allowed at security-related positions, NO ELECTED official dared to utter demands for fair treatment of their commie constituents.
Communism was correctly and OPENLY identified as an ideology (belief system) hostile to the western democracies, and therefore was rightfully persecuted. Politicians had both the guts and the brains to see the danger, despite the natural resources and the markets that the commie countries could offer if treated with political correctness.

So walking back home from my office I asked myself this question …”Well what of the West, ...when will Allah have to provide for the West?”…I mean I worry about you peoples.
