BAGHDAD (Reuters) - Gunmen attacked a Sunni enclave in a mainly Shi'ite district in Baghdad on Friday, burning four mosques and homes, an Interior Ministry official said.
The official said the number of casualties was not known, but a resident of Hurriya district said at least 18 people had been killed and 24 wounded.
"They attacked four mosques with rocket-propelled grenades and machinegun fire. The attacks began at midday," said the resident, who was helping to evacuate people from their homes.

Those Sunnis have made life hell for the Shi'a, not only in the last year, or last thirty years, but for much of the last 1350 years, whenever and wherever they could. Look at the persecuted Shi'a in eastern Saudi Arabia. Look at the impoverished Shi'a in southern Lebanon. Look at the Shi'a majority held in thrall by the Sunni Arab ruler of Bahrain. Look at Yemen, where the Sunnis keep pushing down the Shi'a. Look at Pakistan, where the Sunni terrorist group Sipaha-e-Sahaba has been bombing Shi'a professionals, mosques, and other instituitions for years.
O sons of Ali, punish them now.
Sunnis: why should these Persians re-take what rightly belongs to the real Muslims, the Sunnis? Why should a group of semidemihemi quavering Believers be allowed to take control of Iraq, the Land of Haroun al-Raschid, and of that earliest and most glorious of mosques, that of Mutawwakil? Why should the oil resources of Iraq, potentially the largest in the world, be taken away from the real Muslims, the Arab Sunni Muslims, to be seized for the benefit of the Persian Shi'a, those Rafidite dogs?
O warriors and companions and whatever of the Qur'an and Sunnah, punish those Rafidite dogs now, before they do seize Iraq and never give it back.

Explain to me again why the Gore'ia and Bush'ni sects aren't murdering each other over the disputed 2000 presidential election. They would have better justification than those who shed blood over a centuries-old dispute over succession to an office that no longer exists.

Many out there in the blogosphere might not know what goes on inside the mosque, what the environment is like in such places and what do people do in there, apart from praying.
Well, to start off, mosques were actually not just places of worship but also the places for Moslems to gather for any reason deemed necessary. Mosques are the place where Moslems used to gather not just to pray, but to listen to Mohammed (or another appropriately devout follower of Muhammed) harangue the faithful, prepare for battles/wars, and most importantly, to store weapons and captured booty.
If in the event a Moslem-controlled settlement or town was ever assaulted by a non Moslem force, the mosque would be the location most important for the infidels to capture. The mosques of yesteryear (and this is still true to this day in many places) are literally strongholds, fortresses designed to resist attack. Whoever controls the mosque controls in fact the surrounding area-- something the coalition forces in Afghanistan and Iraq hopefully are already aware of. Thusly, mosques are typically a stoutly-built complex of rooms, which are used for housing any required jihadists to defend the structure, as well as any required supplies to resist/endure a siege. During less violent times, this space was given over to the local mullah, his wives, children, slaves and concubines, and other booty captured from the infidels in past battles.
Today, in some places, mosques are not used for all these purposes. But in many parts of the world (namely the Middle East and other places in the Islamic world) the mosque still plays an important role. The mosque is not just a hall; it is ‘the Pentagon’ where Moslems plot and plan the ongoing jihad against the non Moslems. If it sounds strange and weird to non Moslems, it really is—you just have to step inside to feel it.

Our guys are still dyin' thanks to Dubya's belief that our GI's should be fodder for the Islamo scum that wants nothing more than to massacre each other. He is putting our men and women in harm's way when all can see Iraq is lost.
We can leave Iraq saying we did our utmost to bring stability, freedom and democracy but the Islamists want none of this. Let them butcher each other. Maybe the Saudis will more actively join the fray and provide support to the sunnis. It'd be great if the Iranians jumped in and we had ourselves a 25 year respite thanks to an Islamic massacre in the ME.
Besides, Western troops should NEVER enter an Islamic Republic unless it is to kill, capture, destroy or rescue. Why build or rebuild? They don't appreciate it. Our soldiers are being asked to be social workers, santa claus, mediators and construction workers. Gimme a break. Why are our troops out there handing out candy to these little Islamists who are going to grow up ready to kill us? Is it to win their hearts and minds? Sorry, but their hearts and minds belong to Allah. We can never win them. Ever.

I was thinking exactly that when I read your first posting, but didn't know if you had heard about the Michael Richards fiasco over there. He was giving a show and several blacks stood up and started booing him saying he was no good so, he lashed out and said 50 years ago they would still have a pitch fork up their ass, etc. Now his career is supposedly over. I love Michael Richards and sorry this happened. Many blacks are racist against whites like Chris Rock but it's ok for them, and not racism. Same thing with muslims. F**k that s**t!

In 2004 this was not a fashionable philosophy, but now it's gaining more and more credibility. While it is perhaps somewhat Machiavellian, it unfortunately appears to be the truth. Stop the politically correct war against Jihad.
