Turkey: Man fires shots to protest Pope

He shouted, "I am happy to be a Muslim!" But should the rest of the world be happy about that as well? "Man fires shots to protest Pope," from Agence France-Presse, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

POLICE detained a man who fired shots into the air outside the Italian consulate allegedly to protest an upcoming visit by Pope Benedict XVI.

The protester had tossed his gun into the garden of the Istanbul residence of the consul general, which is in the same compound as the consulate building, after allegedly firing the shots.

The protester shouted, “I am happy to be a Muslim” as he was detained.

T minus three weeks until discussions.

Okay, I just went outside and fired my rifle into the air to protest Muslims.

What? No news coverage?

"If you're happy and you know it..."

Yes, I'm sure he's happy to be a Muslim. Nothing says happiness in Islamania quite like a gun.

Except maybe for a bomb.

Was he earing a bomb vest with only firecrackers?

The protester shouted, “I am happy to be a Muslim” as he was detained.

I wonder if he's happy now?

These people think we are blind. A "religion of peace" yet it seems everytime I turn around one is doing something very violent, shooting guns off, cutting peoples heads off, rioting over cartoon figures, or other sorts of pure unadulterated evil.

Who was it who said:

"They listen with their eyes and think with their feelings"?

Actually, they translated it wrong; what he actually said was "I am stupid because I am a Moslem!"

and the last ol' John Paul Two was shot by a Turk..Benedict 16 there seems to be a precedent...

He was just showing off. Poor man is suffering from delusions.

Poor pathetic wretch. I'm happy to be anything BUT Muslim.

its another insane muslim, the usual description of a muslim going wrong. besides when did you hear of a happy muslim, its not alllowed in the koran, at least not without cutting off a living thing's head.

BANG BANG “I am happy to be Muslim”

Oh my God! I couldn’t cut the irony with a chainsaw.

Erdogan has stated he is refusing to meet the pope when he visits. Erdogan is the main stream medias pick as a good example of a moderate muslim leader. He is showing his true colors. Turkish membership talks must be ended immediately.

Re: Turkey: Man fires shots to protest Pope

This site is interesting, not only as a watch on Jihad, but it provokes thought on many things, particularly the nature of beliefs. The man who fires the shots to protest the Pope believes that an angel talked to some guy named Mohammad in a cave 1350 years ago and that that man took dictation (word for word) from God. The dictation tells the believer to kill unbelievers. There is no room for interpretation in "true Islam" on the matter. It's either dictation or it isn't and if it is dictation, then there is no room for interpretation (it isn't the Gospel according to Mathew or John, or a story (Joshua, e.g.) in the old testament). Why does he believe that?

Beliefs are necessary because Reason-Fact only takes us so far in understanding the mystery of life. However, beliefs may be more central to human nature, more necessary than facts. Facts-Reality do not change. However, beliefs may change and change how our minds operate. If we change our beliefs (about anything) do we then change ourselves? Maybe man is not a "rational" animal but a believing animal.

I think Beliefs must fundamentally change ourselves and our perceptions of reality. (What are your beliefs about anything-specifically and in general?) Beliefs tell us more than facts about a person. They predict behavior more than facts.

What are our beliefs?

Sounds more to me like he's UNhappy. Kinda like he's ENRAGED to be a Muslim. It's like he's psychopathic to be a Muslim.

You know, I've NEVER seen one of these jihadist nutjobs smile or look happy. Every last one of them look like pitbulls who've been fed gunpowder since they've been pups. They all look like there's a rotten grapefruit in their mouths, and they don't know what to do with it.

There's a reason for it, and it isn't because of a merciful god that they're worshipping. It's because of a vile, murderous "prophet" that they're worshipping.

The separation of fact from belief appears central to rational thinking and behavior. It is central to science where conclusions must finally be based on fact via testing in reality. Yet, some people deny reality, and have put others on trial and nearly killed others for pointing out facts (Galileo Galileo, e.g.) that contradicted beliefs.

At one point in Galileo's trial, the prosecution pointed out that the Bible says the moon is a perfect sphere. The prosecutor asked: is it not possible that the craters and valleys seen through the telescope are covered by a smooth invisible substance? Galileo answered that it was possible, but it was also possible under such a premise that there might be invisible mountain ranges on the surface.

The prosecution against Galilio pulled every rabbit out of their clerical hats to confute the evidence of the senses-the facts Galileo presented. So too, many Muslim clerics deny the reality that the Koran dictates violence against unbelievers, keep telling victims of this belief-system that this is not "true Islam", accuse them of being bad for seeing the facts, desperately reach for arguments to support what they desire to believe.

Are such denials of reality-facts mental illness?

Is it just me? I swear the Pope has turned into the Lamb of God. It seems these Muslims show their true face wherever he walks and portray by their actions the violence inspired by their founder Mohammed. This trip to Turkey could be an amazing display of what a "moderate Muslim country" is made of: The lamb disguise falls off and the wolf is exposed. Their intention is subversive violence to those who come in peace.

When it comes to facts many Muslims remind me of an old Saturday Night Live spoof of a game show which required factual answers to questions. Bill Murray played the game show host and Gilder Radner was a contestant. At one point Gilda was shown a series of pictures of vegetables and Murray asked the question: what is your favorite vegetable? She answers that her favorite vegetable is herself. It was the only reasonable fact based answer she gave in the entire "game show"-everything else was an answer to some question that was never asked by Murray.
