4 Dutch Muslims convicted in terror plot

Will the Islamophobia never end? From AP:

AMSTERDAM, Netherlands - A court Friday convicted four Dutch Muslims of plotting terrorist attacks against political leaders and government buildings and sentenced them to up to eight years in prison.

The heaviest sentence was reserved for Samir Azzouz, 20, who the judges said played a central role in the group and had prepared a suicide video meant to "strike terrible fear into the Dutch people."

Azzouz had been arrested twice before as part of investigations into alleged terrorist activities.

Nouredine al Fatmi, who is already serving a five-year sentence in a separate terrorist case, was given another four years, along with Mohammed Chentouf, for preparing attacks. Soumaya Sahla, al Fatmi's wife, was given a three-year sentence for assisting the group.

One other defendant was convicted of passport fraud and sentenced to three months; a sixth defendant was acquitted of all charges.

Prosecutors say Prime Minister Jan Peter Balkenende and former lawmaker Ayaan Hirsi Ali, the creative partner of slain filmmaker Theo van Gogh, may have been among the group's targets. The group also had plans to attack the headquarters of the Dutch intelligence service, they said.

The judges ruled that the defendants shared an ideology of jihad, or holy war. But they said the defendants did not comprise a terrorist organization, which likely would have led to longer sentences.

Evidence against Azzouz included the recovery of bomb-making manuals and radical Islamist propaganda seized from his home, and a tapped telephone call between him and a convicted terrorist also hinted that an attack was imminent.

The suicide video was an indication that Azzouz was close to achieving his objective — "such as an explosion that would mean the death of many people," said Judge E. Koning.

Here's what the insane PC Politicians are doing to Canada , and this is why Terrorists flock to canada and then flock to Toronto which is a short drive to the US border.
When Toronto has a 9/11 style slaughter of thousands of people it will be Pam McConnel washing hers hands clean and blaming the RCMP
or even the Police for not acting on a gut instinct to question a suspicious person.

This is one more reason for the USA to seal up the borders because our own Politicians fear the Pro-Refugee groups like CAIR that scream Racial-profiling if any illegal is picked-up and deported.
Toronto's Council is mainly the Leftist Socialists that have driven up taxes to fund a growing Homeless Industry and creating crisises
to demand Federal money to solve them.
Toronto has a high Immigrant population and Election are based on appeasing Minorities, in fact, Mayor David Miller wants to change the Laws so non-Citizens can vote in Municipal Elections.

'Don't ask' policy on illegals under fire
Public's safety is being 'compromised,' border official warns Toronto police

The Toronto Police Service is being asked to review its groundbreaking "don't ask, don't tell" policy that prevents officers from asking the immigration status of people they encounter — unless it's necessary to their investigation.
The Canadian Border Services Agency fears the policy adopted last February will "significantly compromise public safety and security," says the agency's regional director general John Gillan.
*Toronto, with its large immigrant population, is the only city in Canada to adopt such a policy.
It was intended to encourage victims — such as battered or abused women — or witnesses of crime, to come forward without fear of revealing their illegal status and possibly face deportation.
In a letter to Police Services Board chair Alok Mukherjee, Gillan said Toronto police play a vital role in the deportation of illegal residents because they are one of the primary sources of information for immigration investigations.
"The ability to remove inadmissible persons is vital to the integrity of Canada's immigration system and to those who come to this country lawfully," said Gillan.
He is to appear before the police board today.
"The key link to locating absconders is notification from our municipal law enforcement partners that they have apprehended someone on an outstanding warrant," Gillan said.
Gillan said he understands that asking the immigrant status of a person might impede an investigation but it has to be balanced against the need to apprehend terrorists and criminals.
Board vice-chair Pam McConnell said last night that while she understands Gillan's concerns, she is comfortable with the policy as it stands.
The policy is up for review in February 2007.
"They (border services) are concerned about people who've committed a crime. That's not what our policy is about," McConnell said.
"It's not about protecting criminals but about protecting witnesses and victims of crime," she said.
Sima Zerehi, a spokesperson for the group No One Is Illegal, said the policy should not be reversed because it would jeopardize community safety.
"What we will have again is a lack of communication between immigrant communities and police services," said Zerehi.
But Zerehi said most residents without status — as many as 80,000 in the Toronto area alone — are hardworking, law-abiding people who have simply been caught up in the immigration bureaucracy.
"The Toronto police should not be doing the work of federal immigration officers," Zerehi said.

"Racism! Racism!"...don't ya just love it?

Wealready nailed themdead-to-rights here in the US on that fraudulent talking point.

Islam is NOT a race.

I'm sure they'll come up with something out of their bag of buffoonery to guilt-trip the westerners, and the gullible media that needs to wipe that brown stuff off their noses from one too many cranial-anal insertions with their islamic "informers".

Eight Years.. heaviest sentence! That is a joke. It should be eighty years. It is no wonder the banabenders keep on challanging our way of life and have no qualms about destroying it. I think we are digging holes for ourselves.

Arrogance is a cover for insecurity and weakness. Here unbelievers are like Dorothy and Toto looking behind the curtain and seeing the little Wizard threatening everyone.

"But they said the defendants did not comprise a terrorist organization..."

How many terrorists does it take to qualify as an organization? Has someone held a meeting and assigned a number? Or is it the same old, "We could find no ties to A-Q"?

If the terrorists don't have letterhead or their own dedicated website, does that disqualify them? Or is it that they have fewer than five people in a room at any one time? Or do they have to earn their "terrorist" badges by first blowing someone up?

Very good, Josephine!!This really shows how stupid ourleaders are!

A terrorist is a terrorist because of what he does, not necessarily what group he does or doesn't belong to.

This term is obviously going to have to be re-defined,,,,but then again, it shouldn't need to be. It is because our stupid pc, MSM and leaders.

(Many years ago the world's most wanted man was Carlos the Jackal. I think he acted on his own.)

Of course all of us here know the group they belong to: ISLAM.

That is all we need to know really.

Eight Years.. heaviest sentence! That is a joke. It should be eighty years. It is no wonder the banabenders keep on challanging our way of life and have no qualms about destroying it. I think we are digging holes for ourselves.

Eight years' time to recruit and train more jihadis. The firing squad is the language these people understand. Law enforcement needs to heed the same creed as does the Medical profession: First, do no harm. And by that I mean do not allow harm being done to US.

A dead terrorist does no harm and b. he serves as a warning/example to others. 1400 years with islam have shown that they will test your limits. When they are met with powerful and unwavering resistance they will retreat like the beasts from the underworld that they are. Snakes slithering back under their rocks.. hissing in retreat..

We need to learn to be ruthless again if we are to stamp out these MO-Foes.

How much time off do they get for "good behavior"? Short of the firing squad they'd need to be deported to their countries of origin. If these countries refuse them back in we have no choice but to intern them - or if their offense warrants - the Firing Squad.

Borry, but things are going to get a lot worse before they get better. It is not of my choosing. I am but a fly on the wall observing things.

Josephine already said it perfectly, but I'll blather on anyways. From the article:

...the judges said played a central role in the group and had prepared a suicide video meant to "strike terrible fear into the Dutch people.

It's a good thing he only meant to strike terrible fear into, as opposed to terrorizing, the Dutch people. Not many people understand the distinction, but apparently it is of paramount consideration in the Dutch legal system. The suicide video and bomb-making materials were obviously meant to be used in non-terrorist attacks. And just because one is recorded talking to a convicted terrorist about an impending terrorist attack, doesn't mean that one is a terrorist. That would be guilt by association, and we mustn't be perpetrators of such racist anad genocidal horrors, because that would make us worse than the terrorists, oops, I mean individuals with a shared ideology of jihad.

Imagine if the situation were reversed and there were several Dutch people caught doing the same thing in an Islamic country. The penalty would not be a couple of leisurely years in a Marriott Hotel style Dutch prison but rather beheading or death by firing squad.

When the Islamists take full control of Holland the Dutch can expect the same kind of experience that Nazis gave them fifty years ago.

Hmmmmm...now the length of your jail sentence can be determined by your your ideology when you plot to kill...this is as stupid as the "hate crime" differentiation from any other crime.
A death plot is a death plot, and maximum sentences should be applied to all plotters no matter what their affiliations are.

laker:

How about a bomb scare or plane hijacking where it's flown in the Rock at Mecca during Haaj , do people think for one moment that CAIR
would ask all Muslims in America to not pre-judge
the attack or look for a scapegoat to blame.

Not a chance hell , 19 Muslims slaughter 3000 civilians in NY and CAIR comes out denying Islam had anything to do with it and on 9/12/01 when
the world discovers all 19 hijackers ARE Muslims , we see CAIR's Mr.Hooper worrying about Backlash against innocent Muslims in America.

How odd , Muslims didn't give a damn about innocent civilians in NY and in fact there were
Islamic Org." excusing away the attack by using the famous "BUT" , and then we hear about Palestine and the crusades.

Know Islam - No Peace

"But they said the defendants did not comprise a terrorist organization, which likely would have led to longer sentences."

What!! That is sheer lunacy. What difference does that make? This is the same kind of nonsense that goes on in America.

You mean to say if I kill someone I get off easier if I'm not part of an orginization?
What defines terrorist anyway?

Look at what happened in Waco. David Koresh and his followers werent breaking any laws that I know of. And even if they were they certainly werent conspiring terrorist operations. Men, women, and children snuffed out, courtesy of our Government. No trial, no evidence, everything bulldozed without any outside oversight.

But hey, if they were Muslim what do you think would of happened? Nothing thats what! And Muslims are demanding equal rights! And if those
six Inmans on US airways flight had been white Americans I'll bet dollars to doughnuts they would be charged with Federal anti terror crimes!

The next time any Muslim in this country pulls crap like that again they should be sued in civil court for violating MY rights. Thats the only way to stop this nonsense in the US is to hit these violaters with multi million dollar lawsuits. They think they can use our system against us. Well two can play at that game. And I guarantee you Americans know how to use the system better than they do.

Sure alot of the lawsuits would be dismissed. But all we need is one judge who can see through their BS and it will start a snowball effect.
This country has to face this problem head on. And we certainly cant wait for our leaders to do anything, their part of the problem.

Those poor guys-8 whole years in the slammer! At least they'll get to bone up on the Koran that will be given to them by the authorities. And maybe if they give them a laptop they can continue their wonderful work on behalf of Illah.

Why even bother anymore?

Only 4, what about the others?

...had prepared a suicide video meant to "strike terrible fear into the Dutch people."
................

This is so insane. I do have issues with Dutch policy on some matters--drugs, prostitution, assisted suicide--but over all Dutch society is liberal, egalitarian and just. It is also generous to a fault, especially to chronically unemployed Muslim immigrants. My biggest issue with them is not being tough enough on Jihadis--probably not an issue with the Jihadis themselves. What did they do to deserve being struck with "terrible fear"?

They gave first sanctuary, then a voice (for a whille, anyway) to Ayaan Hirsi Ali. They let Theo van Gogh make his film "Submission". They have banned the niquab (but not the hijab or chador).I guess this was enough.

On their videos and writings, if they're using verses from the Qur'an to justify their terrorist actions, then it's proof they're "hijacking" their "peaceful religion" so the Qur'an should be withheld from them during their incarceration

Why give them the very tool that instigated this terrorism plan in the first place?

Why will the Jihadists keep their terror planning manuals while in prison?...The pedophiles don't get to keep their kiddie porn, while in the joint, do they?

"The heaviest sentence was reserved for Samir Azzouz, 20, who the judges said played a central role in the group and had prepared a suicide video meant to "strike terrible fear into the Dutch people."

Azzouz had been arrested twice before as part of investigations into alleged terrorist activities."

And this is exactly why Europe stands absolutely no chance against the Islamic jihadists. Because instead of looking at them as a threat to the very survival of the nation, the courts look at the jihadists and treat them in the same way as they do any other average criminal. And these are the consequences that are not being looked at by the government and judiciary - if there were any wise politician in Europe, which we know there is not - then they would understand the need to, at the very least lock these terrorists up for life, with no chance of early release. But of course when you have leaders who believe more in the 'human rights' of those who seek to destroy our countries, our culture, our religion and our lives, then this eight year sentence is the consequence of that.

Then again, this is in the same Holland that tried to show the world how it will not stand for fundamentalism by banning the burka in public - this same Holland, who with Balkenende now having won a new term in office having announced that he would be granting an amnesty to thousands of failed asylum seekers who arrived in Holland prior to 2001. And I wonder how many potential terrorists are amongst those clandestines who have absolutely no right to be in the country in the first place.

Azzouz said the videotaped suicide message was meant as a joke

Ha-ha. Give the man his own late-night-comedy TV show.
