On January 20 in London, Daniel Pipes will take on Sheikh Qaradawi's good friend, London Mayor Ken Livingstone (thanks to Teri for the heads-up). Here are some details from Livingstone's website.
Perhaps this will be an occasion for the British public to learn more about the man Livingstone has championed -- Qaradawi -- and what he represents.
Well good. I might have to make the trip. I have always wanted to see Big Ben.
I have already reserved a ticket. My guess, though, is that 90% of the audience will support Livingstone (and Qaradawi) and be violently hostile to Pipes, Israel and Jews. I hope my worst fears are not confirmed but I would be very surprised if any light is shed.
Qaradawi was slated by some sections of the media when ken invited him for tea a few years back.

One example from the article
"In June 2003 Qaradawi pondered the question of how a Muslim who decided of his own free will to convert to another religion or become an atheist should be treated. Instead of saying it was none of his business what adults choose to believe, Qaradawi replied: 'He is no more than a traitor to his religion and his people and thus deserves killing.'"
Oh, and let's not forget his advocacy of murdering gays (a la Nazis) or wife beating.
Pehaps Pipes could ram these points down ken's throat?
Livingstone would roll about in dog faeces if it
could vote for him.
Red Ken is a verbal street-fighter when he debates. Queensbury Rules? Ha! He knows nothing of those. He'll wriggle and bully, shift the agenda and push all the hot-buttons of his audience. Here's hoping Pipes does his homework!
This will be interesting. I hope video or a transcript will be made available.
Brian of London from Shire Network News shall be there. Not planning to draw attention to myself however.

Let's countdown how long before Livingstone and Co. accuse Daniel Pipes of "hatred" or "racism" towards Islam.
The term "discussion" is more accurate (as "debate" is overused ad nauseum)
What's there to "debate", especially the commie counterpart of oswald mosely?
It's just another shouting contest in the making between a rational human and a suicidal shill for the islamofascists.
Like I said elsewhere, some things just aren't debatable. At least it will be good for a laugh.
I am delighted that Pipes is coming to London to take on Livingstone and the multicultural hellhole he has done so much to create. It will be good to raise Pipes' profile in the UK; with the wonderful work he does, his likes is direly needed in this benighted country of ours. Let's hope he will help jolt us from our sleepwalk.
Re Pipes and Livingstone, I should have added that my delight would be replicated if I heard that Robert of JW was coming to London too!!
It may sound a little trite and bitter but "Red Ken"
and more specifically Tony Benn and the "Radical" left of the 70's from whence he came contributed to my inner turmoil and basically caused me to be even more radicalised against there pernicious ideology.
It was from having a direct relation with the daughter of "Kenneth Coates" of "Spokesman books and the Bertrand Russell Peace Foundation" who is in turn very well connected to "Red Ken" that led me to change my views on the world and the general swing of left wing politics.
I came from the gutter and the council estates that Russell and Coates wrote about in the 60's so I thought I may have had a way to connect with the family...but alas no...I always had maverick and different views and was never allowed to voice them,I had a different outlook on life and was never allowed to express it in polite company for fear of being laughed away from a well laid and stocked dinner table.
I used to say that "you live in a 9 bedroomed country house but never let anyone stay here let alone a poor homeless guy"
They would always reply with "well,we help charities and such"
I said
"We'll I used to be homeless and I'm dating your daughter, what do think about that?"
It would never do..me a relative bum hanging out in there bourgoise world and corrupting there daughter.
They talk this duplicitous talk about being socialist whilst having wine cellars that would make most people weep..believe me I've seen them..500 plus bottles of the best wine known to humanity,I've drank the wine at £50 a bottle whilst they revel in the fact that they bought it from brussells less the tax because they were diplomats.!
Whilst my parents struggle for a pension they paid into for 50 years.
I had many an argument,I can tell you...but an argument that could never be won, because I have nothing and they have It ALL..talk about ivory towers..the "apparent socialists" have it all just like the capitalist's they so despised.
I know power corrupts but I find them repugnent and deeply hypocritical but these are the academics of the apologist left that need to be changed...I say they need to be taken task but this it what got me ostricised..I tried and tried but all it got me was being hounded out.
I could have had a nice dandy life thank you very much but I chose my principles over a few bottle's of chateau neuf du pape.
I hope this ring's a few bells out there because I've been left out in the cold.
I have no friends and no relationship because I stuck to my guns and recognised the hypocrisy of the radical left.
They make me sick and if there ever was a revolution as they so desire they would be the first to run to the hills with arm fulls of expensive wine.
ergo Red Ken...Tony Benn..et al..the people that tried to ban pirate radio because it was corrupting the youth..ring any bells.
There facists like any other but there in denial like the rest.
I HATE.HATE.HATE. them so i'm biased.
Fuckin socialist's they make me sick
..I used to think I was egalitarian like the best of people
sorry to go on but I did literally put my life on th e line against dhimmitude and lost.
DO I get a mention in anti-dhimmi of the year?
Never mind
merry xmas everybody.
See you there... here's hoping Mr. Pipes tears Red Ken apart. If you take a look at the list of the speakers for all the events of that conference, though, it's impossible not to notice that there's a great lack of balance. Besides Pipes there seems to be just one more guy on our side -- someone from a Jewish organization. The rest it's all Tariq Ramadan, the grandson of the founder of the Muslim brotherhood, and Salma Yaqoob, a truly repelent female Muslim activist connected with Galloway, and loads others. Mr. Spencer and others are sorely needed.
Oh, if a group of fanatics tries to make zoo noises to prevent Pipes from speaking let us those on his side not hold back and shout them down.
Further to migcca's comments, I hope Pipes does not imagine he's joining a debating society for polite English gentlefolk. More like a hyenas' den: there'll be no strenuous Voltairean efforts to defend his right to say what needs to be said. If he has not already done so, I urge him to study the Galloway-Hitchens' debate to see what levels fine upstanding members of London's multicultural gang are capable of plumbing. Do not make the mistake of imagining that they stage conferences to seek out the truth - no!, rather it is to shout down and silence any of us here who dare to turn down or retch on the multicultural bilge they serve.
Yes, you are quite right Colin -- however from what I have heard Pipes is used to facing tough audiences in the US, including organized groups within the audience trying to silence him with chants, shouting, etc. As regards the Hitchens-Galloway debate I was very proud of Hitchens, he really destroyed Galloway. Hitchens is truly a great debater, I can still remember phrases of his from that debate that are so memorable that I believe I will remember them in 20 years. If he was there on the 20th, I would think Pipes wouldnt need any further backup.
By the way, given the amount of further evidence that has emerged since the debate regarding Galloway's dealings with Saddam, I cant believe he hasnt been prosecuted yet for treason. Heck, his statements alone calling heroes insurgents that kill British troops in Iraq should be enough. And yet he still slithers freely across London wearing ultra-expensive Italian suits, all while declaring fine socialist feelings of course. That such a man can thrive and prosper in our society instead of being in jail is truly a sign that we live in very strange times.
I look forward, greatly, to seeing Pipes debate with Mayor of London Ken Livingstone.
I'm waiting for my ticket - eagerly.

Philiph35:
Like the debate in NYC between Christopher Hitchens and Geo Galloway early in 2006, I expect most of the audience will be Kenny's claque and no matter how stupid and hypocritical Kenny's utterances, the crowd will boo Pipes and cheer Ken.
But please, go anyway and provide us with a report here at JW.
