The Somali Jihad is not going well so far. Every country that is threatened by jihad activity should be supporting Ethiopia now. From AP, with thanks to Jamie Glazov:
MOGADISHU, Somalia — Ethiopian and Somali troops captured a key border town early Monday, a day after Ethiopia sent fighter jets into neighboring Somalia and bombed several towns in a dramatic attack on a powerful Islamic movement.Ethiopia's prime minister announced Sunday night that his country was "forced to enter a war" with Somalia's Council of Islamic Courts after the group declared holy war on Ethiopia, a largely Christian nation.
Residents said Islamic fighters left the town of Belet Weyne on the Somali-Ethiopian border overnight after Ethiopian fighter jets bombed Islamic positions on Sunday.
Col. Abdi Yusuf Ahmed, a Somali government army commander, told The Associated Press that his forces entered Belet Weyne early Monday without a shot fired. He held up his telephone and a reporter could hear street celebrations.
Ahmed said his troops would pursue the Islamic fighters south on one of Somalia's key roads.
Looks like Israel could take a few pointers from Ethiopia. Then again, when 500 Islamists are killed in one fell swoop, no one goes on an on about the "disproportionate response."
Somalia pickeda wrong fight. You can tell that Ethiopia is not fooling around, like Israel.
Somali Jihad's bravery is when they bully unarmed civilians. hope the Ethopians give them a great Christmass cheer with a bang.
Not that Ethiopians should care but looks like Somali Jihadis have no women and children to hide behind.

So it's not just Somalis vs. Ethiopia. Arab and Afghan jihadists by the thousands have now joined the fight.
To the Islamists, it's all one global Ummah, one global jihad, one global war.
It's long overdue for the West to start thinking in those terms too.
Send them more Bullets!
Support Ethiopia!
A message from President Bush:
My fellow Americans,on this day when so many of us celebrate the message of peace and good will toward men, the courageous Ethiopians have begun a campaign to purge Somolia of the Islamist fascists that have poured into its borders in an attempt to enslave its people under cruel, inhuman political and religious oppression. Based on the foundation of Freedom inherent in our American society, on this morning I have sent two aircraft carriers to supply the Ethiopians and Somali government with air cover that will attempt to destroy the Islamist terrorists who are enemies, not only of the Somali people, but of all free thinking people the world over.
Good for Ethiopia! I always have respect for the little guy who has the courage to punch the bully in the nose! :)
HaShem has indeed given the Ethiopians Solomon's wisdom. May He now also give them David's courage and fortitude.
Remember Ethiopia in your prayers this Christmas. They have undertaken a great struggle against the pan-Islamic movement and will be condemned both by the Islamic world and Western dhimmis in the process. Urge your congressmen and Senators to support Ethiopia and to condemn the Islamic rebels in Somalia. Ethiopia just became my favorite foreign country. :)
May God grant them courage and bless them with overwhelming victory over their enemies.
didnt mo say something about a bow-legged man from Ethiopia?
>>>>> Ethiopia's prime minister announced Sunday night that his country was "forced to enter a war" with Somalia's Council of Islamic Courts after the group declared holy war on Ethiopia, a largely Christian nation.>>>>>>
1. Yeah... "forced to... after the group declared holy war..." Wasn't that declaration of hold war AFTER Ethiopia had intervened militarily for months in Somalia???
2. Per the CIA World Factbook the Ethiopian population is "Muslim 45%-50%, Ethiopian Orthodox 35%-40%, animist 12%, other 3%-8%" so this isn't exactly militant Islamists waging jihad on Christians..
It's difficult to feel sorry for a people that dragged the corpses of our military's "finest" through the cheering crowds of Mogadishu (Blackhawk Down incident of 1993)...especially when your own hell-hole of a country has no oil reserves, you shouldn't burn bridges with America.
I hope the Ethiopian army sends the Islamic barbarians back to their original hell-hole, but if not, the Somalians deserve to reap what they've sown.
Is this the beginning of the fight against Islam, which we have all been waiting for?
The war in Iraq and Afghanistan is NOT against Islam, since the in both countries their constitutions enshrine sharia law.
This could be the beginning of a world wide fight against Islam and muslims which we have all been waiting for.
Let's hope things go well here! Good luck Ethiopia!
The LA times is reporting that the Islamists are gaining massive support as a result of the bombardment taking place. The Islamic Courts are seeing huge gains in their drive to recruit Somali men. See: http://www.latimes.com/news/la-fg-somalia26dec26,0,3205334.story?track=mostviewed-homepage
Don't let the knee jerk effect cloud your judgement of the Somali's national will.
Although some factions or clans thrive on bullying and hiding behind women and children these people are sometimes very fierce fighters.
I don't believe the Somali army has too many tanks and armored vehicles but they don't need that in order to defend themselves.
The borders there are very open and I wonder what they really mean by "closing the borders" up in the article. I have a hard time believing that if someone declared them closed that foreign fighters could not still get in.
This country is not very technologically advanced but the society doesn't value a life as we do here in the U.S. People are routinely killed for petty street rivalries and the whole mention of the court system is really a joke if you ask me. The country is run by a bunch of bully thugs. But that doesn't mean that Ethiopia is going to dive in there and ferret them out by dropping a few random bombs on their airport and with a few troops across the border; which I view as a defensive move like the article states. Not necessarily a defensive move which intends to invade Somalia.
I was in the army and served in Mogadishu and Baidoa Somalia 1992-3. I remember it well. I don't think that the U.S. wants any part of this war. Although I personally would favor the Ethiopians point of view.
I think that the Clinton administration had the military trying to approach this the right way when they had the fiasco with the Ranger Bat in 1992. Except for their mililtary plan was obviously lacking backup and armor support. Had that been in place Clinton would have potentially fixed this problem 15 years ago. I view this as more cleanup for what Clinton couldn't finish off.
At any rate this story is not interesting to most Americans.
"It's difficult to feel sorry for a people that dragged the corpses of our military's "finest" through the cheering crowds of Mogadishu (Blackhawk Down incident of 1993)..."
........I felt at the time, a massive retalitory response should have been immediately ordered. (instead of the the Clinton policy of EEEK, time to go). Blackhawk Down is a disgrace to the US military. The US response to the incident served only to encourage further violence and to embolden the Muslims terroists, Afer all, they had beaten the best and they had seen the weak response by the best.
I still feel we owe Somalia something to remember us by. Maybe one day when Ethiopian troops find themselves pinned down, They will look up and see contrails in the sky, followed shortly by the destruction of the opposing Somilians in front of them. A few seconds later, the contrails disappear as quietly as they appeared. Death from above can be an awesome friend.
