Surely the southern Sudanese, and at least some group in Darfur, can now beg the Americans to come in, and then the Americans should promptly accede. This should be done right now, without the Americans waiting to leave Iraq. Of course, the Americans should leave Iraq, and that prompt withdrawal should be accompanied by similar measures that will make it clear that the Americans are not leaving Iraq because they were defeated, but because they intend to more effectively counter the varied weapons of Jihad.
Other moves might include, for example, discussion of necessary changes in immigration policy all over the West, loud noises made about security threats to NATO and the danger from Muslims "in Europe seizing control of weapons and armories including nuclear weapons" -- a subject that should be discussed, written about, worried about, and made the subject of great interest right now, all over the nation-states that constitute the North Atlantic Treaty Organization.
In other words, American (and other Western troops) in the Sudan, as well as Western military aid to Ethiopia or rather to its Christians, can do much to demoralize and dishearten jihadist Muslims throughout black Africa. Those troops and that military aid should be accompanied by a large and well-financed propaganda campaign devoted to the subject of the long and continuing Arab slave trade, and the Arab use of Islam as a vehicle for Arab imperialism, and the mocking of those blacks in the West who have been fooled into becoming pseudo-Arabs, with Arab names and subservience to the Arab National Religion (hence my request for someone to come up with the version of the epithet "Uncle Tom" that could apply to an islamized, arabized black man -- a term that needs to be created, for it could be an effective weapon of ridicule, one making the mahdi-brays of this world the butt of jokes, rather than what they think they are). And anything that can be done to split black Africa from the dominating Arabs and Muslims might also help, if properly exploited, to limit the effectiveness of those well-financed campaigns of dangerous Da'wa in our prisons, especially in the United States and Great Britain. Those Da’wa efforts are directed particularly at black prisoners -- ones who are disaffected and Searching for an Answer. But they must be made to understand that that Answer is Not the Arab National Religion.

My daughter's boyfriend, Teega, is a southern Sudanese Christian. Through him, Lily has had a chance to meet several members of that community. They are very nice, helpful (and sober!) people, and when Teega's buddies helped my wife move from her apartment they accepted no payment. They have sad stories to tell about Sudan, but they all really love America, and the boyfriend's cousin just joined the Army as a chance to serve and fight the jihadists.

I have been thinking the same thing ever since I watched a show on the 21st century soldier. All kinds of cameras, computers and other electronic gizmos. Give me something simple and reliable. I would not carry a weapon that could be disabled by an EMP.

By design, the U.S. military are under civilian control. The military do not set policy or design grand strategy.
Accordingly, the highest ranking officers in the military--the chiefs of staff of the Armed Services--also do not design or set policy. They may only advise the President on the military's ability to support a proposed policy, or estimate the military consquences of such a policy.
Basically, the military are duty bound technicians, who do their utmost to support the policy in force at the time. There would never be any strategic offices such as Hugh suggests located in the Pentagon or in any military facility anywhere.
It is constitutionally up to the civil authorities to identify the enemy and establish the proper international political goals. That is why the treasonous behavior of academia and the domestic political class through the current conflict is so damaging. That is why countervailing forces (very weak right now) such as Jihad Watch are so critically important. That is why I don't sleep very well these days.
I agree with the need for discussion with respect to immigration. But the U.S. in Sudan? I don't see that happening. Also, it doesn't matter in the least how much Americans would claim (upon departing from Iraq): "We're not leaving in defeat!!" for the Iraqis (and everyone else around the world) to think otherwise.
Years and years ago I happened across a photograph, I believe (could be wrong) that the photo was from the Sudan (taken by a German photographer). It was one of those striking, unforgettable pictures. Maybe it was because the photo was in stark black and white (?).
Anyway, the photo showed the face and the outstretched arm of a black man (incredibly emaciated). The black man was lying on the ground (arm out-stretched as in supplication). Then, striding along, in the background, you saw simply the white robe and sandals of an Arab...presumably indifferent to the suffering or the anguish of the black person. (I'll have to search for this photo)...(it was in a collection of the year's best photos...)

A large quibble on a small point: B must precede A. We should not enter another foreign war until we have taken steps to protect our own security. First and foremost, identify the enemy who is attacking us, the real enemy, not some nebulous "terrorism" that strikes us from out of nowhere. Second, seal the borders, stop immigration of jihadists, deport or at least monitor any jihadists already here, stop funding jihad-sponsoring nations. Then, and only then, begin an offensive (either militarily or using softer methods like those in the Cold War) against jihad around the world.
We can help the African Muslims in Darfur protect themselves from the Arab Muslims, if we decide that is in our best interest. We should help the Thai government with their jihad in the south. Same for Lebanese Christians, Kashmiri Hindus, etc.
