Intel helps develop electronic Quran, says report

Maher Hawash used to work for Intel. But do you think anyone there got the hint, and vetted this curriculum for jihadist teachings? I'd be willing to bet the farm that such a thought never even crossed the mind of anyone at Intel.

By Peter Clarke for EE Times, with thanks to WM:

LONDON — Intel Corp. has linked up with two Saudi Arabian software companies to develop an electronic version of Islam's holy book, the Quran, and a training computer to help teach a Saudi government-approved curriculum, according to an Associated Press report.

Craig Barrett, chairman of Intel (Santa Clara, Calif.), attended a product launch in Saudi Arabia over the weekend. An Intel development center in Cairo, Egypt, designed the hardware for both Saudi projects, the report said.

Intel worked with Dar Al Rasm Al-Othmani, a software company focused on religious content, to develop the E-Quran, a small computer that contains the text and audio recitations of the Quran, the report said. Intel worked with Semanoor, an educational software company, to develop the E-Curriculum, a portable computer that contains a Saudi government-approved curriculum for children up to 12th grade (about 18 years of age), the report said.

The E-Curriculum is being implemented in Saudi schools, the report said referencing Semanoor as its source.

Islam Inside ™

How sweet.

However, what does the Koran say about this? Is this halal? After all, there were no computers 1400 years ago and the Koran is supposed to cover EVERYTHING. No doubt a bunch of "holies" are holed up somewhere trying to figure this out. Maybe those scholars will pass through the Minneapolis airport on their way to figuring out how to dal with this weighty matter. Perhaps a little loud praying to Illah on a plane will help them find the guidance they need.

What are the rules for taking laptop computers on airplanes now? How would a computerized "holy book" compare? Would Muslims demand the right to bring their E-Qurans onto airplanes even if laptops were not permitted?

"McGeady"

Steve McGeady, former Intel Vice-President, member of the Board of Trustees of Reed College, in short -- world-conqueror -- has not yet had his name enter the dictionary. But it should.

What is a "McGeady"? A "McGeady" is a wilful innocent, an obstinate and self-assured naif, when it comes to Islam and to Muslims. This naif, who mistakes the facade, who confuses outward affability and signs and symbols of "fitting in" to American life (the American wife, the Little-League children, the financial success)on the part of a Muslim colleague to guarantee that that Muslim colleague will not, at some point, re-discover Islam, take it more seriously, and in taking it more seriously, set off to harm Infidels, whether next door or in far Afghanistan.

Here is how one on-line website puts it:

'Hawash's former boss, Intel Vice-President Steven McGeady, led a group of former Intel employees who protested Hawash's detention without charge and demanded his release. They staged protests and set up a defense fund and (now defunct) website at "freemikehawash.org." The New York Times quoted McGeady describing Hawash's pre-trial detention as 'Alice in Wonderland meets Franz Kafka.'

After Hawash was formally charged, McGeady, acting as spokesman for Hawash's family, said 'People who know Mike believe the idea that Mike would have fought for the Taliban in Afghanistan is completely absurd and that he ultimately will be cleared' and 'We hope that once a jury hears what happened, they’ll realize that a mistake was made.'

Hawash's attorney, Stephen Houze said 'It’s our intention to shed the light of day on what has been a dark cloud of secrecy,” stating that he would use his pre-trial discovery powers to compel the United States to declassify any evidence it plans to use in the case. “This is America,” he added. 'We have an open court system.'

Hawash's supporters were criticized by conservative opinion columnist Reinhard for misrepresenting Hawash, using an older photograph in place of a more current one:

The dated, clean-shaven photo atop the 'Free Mike Hawash' Web site created a false impression of Hawash to cultivate sympathy for his case. In fact, the 'Free Mike Hawash' Web site's very name adds to this misimpression, since Hawash has gone by "Maher" for about three years."

McGeady was pledging his life, his fortune, and his sacred honor that his old friend and Intel colleague Mike (Maher) Hawash was innocent, and the government railroading this innocent on trumped-up charges, right up to the moment when Hawash pleaded guilty.

"Alice in Wonderland meets Franz Kafka."

A "McGeady."

can laptops be used to transmit a signal to trigger a well placed explosive?

Thank God (not allah) I'm on an AMD64 CPU.

Audio recitations of the Koran, huh? Sure would be funny if that recitation came from a woman-I can just see the outrage now.

how about we hack some Koranic verses recited by someone who sounds like Beavis and Butthead?

Of course the Muslims might get a kick of the ibecilic laughter of these two.

Even better just replace all the verses with statements like 'you are satans bitch' and 'you smell', or perhaps go for something a bit more eccentric, perhaps like a South Park version of the Koran that mocks everything Islamic, may prove to be educational... just a thought.

And it would also improve their IQ immeasurably.

If a woman did do the reciting though, I'd want her to be weepy in reciting the anti-female parts for extra effect. Fran Drescher would be perfect!

Anyone know what is the content of the Saudi gov't curriculum? Does it have disparaging things to say about Jews and Christians? Is Intel helping to promulgate a curriculum of hate, which can now be used more easily further afield?

I'm selling my stock.

I'm selling my long-held stock ( over 10 years) And I'm writing Intel to let them know why I'm selling the stock and also remind them about their $360,000 man who got religion and left to blow things up.

Advertising, money and entertainment rules the west. We're plain stupid - a herd of sheep mixed with ostiches.

Of course, if we could have some real leadership and people who could frame this fight in terms we could all act on, well, we'd be getting somewhere. Until we get such leaders or the tsunami Islami goes off in large world capitols we'll be more interested in selling stuff to the oil people and looking for pictures of Brittney's coochie on the internet.

I have been on Athlon/Turion for a while. I normally try to be agnostic about computers (which is far far far far more difficult for me than being agnostic about religion, since I want(ed) a whole bunch of computer platforms to be successful. But I'm going to mount a hobby horse (sorry Hugh) and urge all of you - sell your Pentiums/Celerons and switch to Athlons/Semprons/Turions. Oh, and avoid Centrino laptops as well, while you're at it.

I always knew Intel was evil. Now I have real evidence!

For any microprocessor experts:

While on the subject of CPU's, imagine Intel adding Quranic verses to their SSI, MMX, and their gazillion varieties of operands to their instruction set. Would make that really crawl.

I'm kind of supprized that the Saudis would touch Intel with a 10ft poll. If you didn't know Much of Intel's R&D and chip fabrication is done in Israel. They have a MAJOR facilities in Petach Tikva, Haifa and Kiriat Gat (and maybe others).

So just remember while intel is doing what is probably a smallish project with the saudis they are building a multi billion dollar plant in Israel.

Oh also in Jerusalem and Yakum

Assalamau alaikum all,

I would like to see this wonderful idea developed further. In particular the Koran could be preached from a satellite in orbit around the earth.

Alzar Uni could choose the Imam who would recite it...and this can be preached around earth for all time.

Cracking idea ...what!

That'll scare the aliens away.

"I would like to see this wonderful idea developed further. In particular the Koran could be preached from a satellite in orbit around the earth.'

Don't do that, we'd pick it apart. What we'd be doing is take each Verse and mock it - ins funny voices - ea of us rolling on the floor laughing.

While we get drunk on wine.

Allat

"Education" is often touted as one of the more reasonable sounding fantasy based 'solutions' for the global Islamic Jihad. Somehow, when exosed to the magical things one may find on the internet -- no Muslim who is also a human can resist the civilizing moderating influences -- right?

Yet isn't it interesting that if you plotted the trajectory in terms of viciousness of Islamic Jihad, or plotted the spread of Islamic Jihad and Islam in the world, or plotted the effectivess of Islamic Jihad, that the steep upward slope of that chart would correlate almost exactly to the steep slope of the increase in access and availability for all global Muslims to our various Western inventions and technologies -- our computers, our software, our video cameras, our editing equipment, our television technology, our internet, aour cell technology, our internal combustion engines...?

When will we learn that anything we give to Muslims, or allow to fall into Muslim hands, will eventually be perverted into a weapon to harm and annihilate us?

Food -- fertilizer -- aid after the tsunamis and earthquakes -- techniques and methods for healthy childbirth -- military aid -- training -- college degrees -- credit cards -- medicine -- computers -- automobiles -- airplaines -- cell phones -- EVERYTHING is a weapon or potential weapon in the hands of the twisted Muslim.

EVERYTHING.

( By the way and FYI -- iBomb is one of the things covered in eJihad 101.)

Creepy has just gone high-tech!

What'll they think up next???

On second thought, don't answer that!

We probably don't want to know!!!!!!!!!!

If only Intel would do the same for the other major religious texts. Should we vote for an electronic Bible? I for one would much rather have Christ's peace loving philosophy that Mohammed's murderous outbursts put on audio.
