Iraq protests at US arrest of Iranian diplomat

Good thing we have a friendly government in Iraq now. Shi'ite Client State Update from Reuters, with thanks to Sr. Soph:

BAGHDAD - Iraq’s president protested on Monday against the arrest by US forces in Iraq of two Iranian diplomats who US officials said were seized in raids against Iranians suspected of planning attacks on Iraqi security forces.

Iran said the diplomats had been invited by the Iraqi government and warned their detention would “provoke unpleasant repercussions”, a local Iraqi news agency said.

“Two Iranian diplomats were detained by the Americans,” said Hiwa Othman, media adviser for Iraqi President Jalal Talabani.

“The president is unhappy. He is talking to the Americans about it as we speak. The diplomats came to Iraq at the invitation of the president,” Othman told Reuters. He said he was not aware if they had met Talabani.

Iran is the Enemy of Iran and it's fledgling democracy.

They should see this.

Stupid Iraq'is

Okay. Instead of force, we'll do the "Eggshell Walk." Not a problem.

Would it come as a surprise to anyone if these "diplomats" are released pretty sharpish.

So if these diplomats are legitimate, why aren't SCIRI officials, and President Talabani having a channel of communications between them and the US Command?

Diplomats entering a country from Iran,Syria, or any country for that matter should be caring official papers that states their purpose for being there and the US command should have been fully appraised of it.

This was about to happen...You send troops and protect them..spend billions of dollars for their reconstruction...teach them "democracy""...still you will remain "Kafir". No one is sure when Dubya will understand this and leave them so that they can kill each other "Peacefully".

So much for "our friend and ally" nonsense! When will the West learn that, for the Muslims, the only good thing they want from us is our money? oh, and women ?

Yeah, they were there at the invitation of Iraq for a conference on how to build a common front against the Great Sucker... sorry Great Satan, after he leaves Iraq. We should apologize and release them immediately.

When we leave Iraq, it will be like Sherman's March to the Sea.

Right after we reduce Iran back to the 17th century.

Look, I think the problem is we have no idea of who are friends are in Iraq. Maybe Iran has infiltrated everything. If the Iraqi government wants these guys released, maybe its time Bush realized that these guys are on Iran's side and not ours.

Slightly OT.

Sunni, Shiite, and Kurdish tribes want to succeed, but all have unique pressures. Tribes succeed at the expense of other tribes. The pressure for each tribe to win will be indefinite. Only a tiny percent of the time will all tribes achieve the same goal at the same time.
If the tribes focus instead on what matters most for Iraq, then they will find common shared pressures. A common union and civil laws will, in the long run, benefit the citizens of Iraq. They can strive to achieve common goals, such as working together to grow the oil infrastructure to its maximum potential. When they share their abilities and wealth, they will find a common desire to construct a first class civil infrastructure.
Tribes can easily choose to work in a vacuum, straining to only achieve their selfish goals. The tribes can also find a mutual connection to the stress of achieving the goals of a successful Iraq.
