Bangkok: Four Buddhists were shot dead yesterday in Thailand's restive south, as the government warned it may have to change its strategy to counter the rising violence.A gunman posing as a customer whipped out a gun and shot a 59-year-old food vendor in Pattani province in front of dozens of horrified bystanders, police Lt Wichathon Timkrom said.
In nearby Yala province, gunmen killed a 34-year-old truck driver as he rode his motorcycle with his wife, Police Lt Prasom Laungphu said. His wife was not hurt.

Two other Buddhists were shot dead yesterday in Narathiwat province, police said.
Gunmen fired into a grocery store in Rueso district, killing its owner Wanna Ongananurak, 35, and a second woman who was as yet unidentified, police said. Thailand's military-installed government has pledged to make peace in the south a priority, and to reverse the hardline policies of former Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, who was deposed by a coup on September 19.
But with daily killings continuing unabated, Prime Minister Surayud Chulanont said the government may have to change course if the situation does not improve.

The Thai government has apologized to the Islamists and gave in to their demands for syariah laws, teaching of Malay language, etc, upon the advice of the Muslim Thai army chief (coup leader) to cease the violence. Yet the violence continues unabated.
I guess the next thing this Muslim Thai army chief will advise is to introduce Islam as the official religion of Thailand and have an Imam to supplant the Thai King.

The "make peace" initiative seems to be working, by which I mean the "let Muslims kill anybody they want to" initiative. How else does one explain how somebody can walk into a grocery store, kill two people, and not be immediately apprehended? Intentional failure is my bet, which is how I'm guessing Thailand's new Muslim leader is going to facilitate its Islamic overthrow: rather than overt military or political action, do nothing while disclaiming responsibility and trying to keep up plausible deniability. The motorcycle killing also seems weird. Checking my limited data set, if the motorcycle's operator stops operating (murder, heart attack, stroke, whatever) the passenger is certain to be seriously hurt, yet it is claimed she's unharmed.
Is there any place in this world where these crazies can live in peace with others?

What a shame about Thailand.It was always on my wish-list. Now it has to come off. I am running out of places to go! Time for a trip around Australia to the places I haven't seen yet,,while I still can.

Your right, regretfully the pacific theatre is looking more and more ominous and even New Zealand is not immune from pc madness. Yet there is still isolated beauty there that no mohammed can touch. ;)
To date there have been no incidents north of the three southern provinces. I still feel safe walking the streets in Bangkok.
The attitudes of some Thais are starting to shift. One I was talking to said that anyone unable to speak Thai in the south should be deported as with those not Thai nationals down there.
I doubt that this will happen but I start to hear this kind of thing here now.
The local govt will change its attitude if there is no improvement within 3 month.
They should have read JW before. But with a muslim army chief who is flirting with paksitan and egypt, trying to keep the capital Bangkok under martial law must be very encouraging for his brothers.
Still half the country is under martial law and thus have devided the Nation already. Is like raging a war against civilians and fail to fight the real security issues.

Iran envoy attacks West in Thai speech

Iranian Ambassador to Thailand Mohsen Pakaeen attacked the United States, the West and Israel in a harsh speech to Bangkok Shi'ites yesterday.
In the speech, which was covered only by the official Iranian news agency IRNA, the ambassador charged the western countries were trying to prevent Iran from using nuclear power, because they want "to deprive developing countries of nuclear energy."
Iran has no plans to develop nuclear weapons, he said in the speech in Min Buri district. Instead, the standoff with the United Nations is entirely over the right to have nuclear powered electricity.
"Iran's insistence on its nuclear rights will secure the future benefits of the world states, in particular the developing ones," he claimed.
He said all countries have the right to access nuclear energy for peaceful purposes.
According to IRNA, the ambassador was speaking to "the annual meeting of the Thai Muslims from Min Buri area," where there are a number of Shi'ite mosques. The two-day meeting began on Saturday, IRNA said.
Over the past several months, Mr Pakaeen and other Iranian diplomats have taken a far higher profile in Thailand.
During the recent Ramadan fasting period, Iran sponsored a daily, early-morning TV show which featured Thai Shi'ites giving strong anti-western sermons. Prior to this year, only the Thai Sunni community had sponsored pre-dawn shows on Thai TV, and none of them was political.
In his speech on Sunday, the ambassador went on at some length about the suspected nuclear weapons of Israel, which he refused to name, calling it only "the Zionist regime."
He said Israel was the centre of all problems in the Middle East, and told the Thai Muslims that, "Unless this center of crisis is harnessed, tranquility cannot be expected to be established in the world."
He said American neo-colonialists had recently hoped "to ignite regional wars and materialise their own expansionist goals," but dismissed any so-called "conflict among civilisations" as a western invention, the Iranian news agency said.

Now we have a new opposition labor leader who could be a threat to John Howard. This worries me as most labor members have muslim constituents and a lefty loonies.
I am losing my optimism.
I think nothing good will happen unless something awful happens first, and the west reaches critical mass. I am not holding my breath!
