Reporters Without Borders said it firmly and utterly condemns a ban that has been slapped on the Arabic-language weekly "Nichane" and legal action launched against it for "damaging Islam".
The paper carried a feature in its 9 to 15 December 2006 issue entitled, "Jokes: How Moroccans laugh at religion, sex and politics". The Moroccan government banned the paper on 20 December and the king's prosecutor at the Casablanca High Court ordered police to investigate the article.
The prosecutor's office decided to take legal proceedings against editor Driss Ksikes and journalist Sanaa Al Aji for "damaging the Islamic religion" and "publication and distribution of articles contrary to morality".
"In taking this double step, the Moroccan authorities remind anyone who might have forgotten that the judicial arsenal is always available to curb the free expression of Moroccan journalists," the worldwide press freedom organisation said.
Despite promises and commitments made by Rabat in recent months, the "red lines" are still clearly there to constrain all journalist work, it said. Forbidden issues include the sacred status of the king, Islam as the state religion, Western Sahara, the army or morals. These bans are found as often in the 2002 press code as in the anti-terror law or the draft law on opinion polls, and always in terms vague enough to allow the widest interpretation. The same bans also appear in an ethical charter recently adopted by the federation of press editors.
Reporters Without Borders said it believed the steps taken were based on an electoral calculation in the run-up to polling which could be marked by a strong showing by the Islamist movement. The organisation said it feared that, far from calming the extremists, these measures could dangerously expose journalists with "Nichane".
It urged the Moroccan authorities to reconsider the ban on the weekly and called on the Casablanca prosecutor's office to withdraw its complaint for "damage to the Islamic religion" and "publication and distribution of articles contrary to morality". It restates its solidarity with the newspaper and the journalists targeted by the ban and legal proceedings.

It is interesting that Muslims think they know what is a funny or offensive joke to Allah... Considering that one can never truly know the mind of Allah, or God Almighty, I find the pomposity of it all laughable.
I am of the conviction that if God Almighty finds a joke unhumorous and blasphemous, He will exact His revenge in a manner that He sees fit. So, my question to Muslims is: If Allah is as all powerful as you say that he is, and that it is ludicrous (and bordering on blasphemy - according to some Islamic Clerics) to even suggest that you know what Allah is thinking, why do you fret over what is offensive and what isn't?

Western archeologists uncovered nost of the museum contents. (Muslims - especially Arab Muslims largely do not care about pre-Islamic history. And skilled Westerners work the oil fields.

The Reporters Without Borders were half courageous to publish the story about the ban, but should have gone further and described the specific content of the jokes. This way the repressive government could have been more embarrased and would see that the ban had resulted in even wider publiation of the supressed content. If anyone can find the content please publish it.

Muslims do not show humor,love, or compassion. They, therefore, destine themselves to misery, povery, and death.
Of course, the demon Khomeni had said that there is no place for fun in Islam. There is only a compulsory prayer for a fictitious dictatorial God, an importance for black dress for women (and hence a enjoyment of beauty or grace), no cartoons, no films, no music (Mr. Muhammed said that music is the sound of Satan), no sculpture (heard of any famous Muslim created sculptures ?). There is a grim constant reminder of torture in Hell.

A couple of years ago a conservative commentator did what, on a "shock-jock" show, would be called a bit; the bit went on for a few segments and has been reprised a few times over the years.
It was on watching women "farding in their cars." Because of the elided "d" in promunciation of the word, it caused some consternation and amusement among the listener-callers.

OK, so it's sophomoric and maybe has nothing to do with humor and I am over 60 years old, but I am giggling inside at the concept that both the hadjis and jihadi are out there farding.
