An update on this story. "Veil-wearing Muslim woman backs out of Channel 4 alternative to Queen's message," by Richard Alleyne for the Daily Telegraph:

A muslim woman who was due to deliver Channel 4's alternative Christmas message wearing a full veil backed out yesterday after criticism from inside and outside her community.
Earlier this month, Khadija Ravat agreed to front the six-minute slot that is broadcast as the Queen delivers her own thoughts on Christmas Day. She said she wanted to argue that women should have the right to cover their faces if they choose.
Yesterday, however, after talks with the producers, the part-time primary school teacher from Leicester told Channel 4 that she could not go through with the project.
In a statement, she said that it was the unexpected publicity around her decision that made her change her mind.
But a source close to the programme makers said one of the reasons was that she had been pressurised by senior members of the community who felt it was not her place to talk about Islam. It has also been said that she had received threatening letters from non-Muslims accusing her of trying to upstage the Queen.
In a statement released through the television channel, she said: "My initial thoughts about the programme were that it would be a fantastic opportunity to do something positive and to convey a warm message for everyone to share.
"However, after careful consideration, I have decided not to appear on the programme.
"I have no doubt that Channel 4 will continue with its inquiring and sensitive approach on issues relating to Muslims in Britain." Last night she refused to elaborate on her decision at her home.
But the head of the Muslim school where she worked said that she had "erred on the side of caution" after receiving a number of letters, some abusive.
Ibrahim Hewitt, 50, head of the al-Aqsa Primary School, which is near Mrs Ravat's Leicester home, said: "There has been a mixed reaction.
"I have known her for a long time, and she is a very sincere person. Nobody at the school has raised any objections - indeed, parents have come to me and said they were very happy she was going to do it.
"But some people think she is trying to upstage the Queen, which is certainly not the case. But I think she feels it would rub people up the wrong way."
Channel 4's message, which has in the past been fronted by the likes of Sharon Osborne and Quentin Crisp, is meant to offer a controversial alternative to the Queen's traditional Christmas Day address on the BBC and ITV. It is thought Channel 4 researchers may have tracked her down after she made a public comment at the height of the controversy when Commons leader Jack Straw said he regarded full veils as a "visible statement of separation and difference".
[...]
Last night Channel vowed to continue its search for a Muslim woman to front the show.
A spokesman said: "We remain committed to having a Muslim woman deliver the alternative Christmas message. Part of Channel 4's remit is to provide space for voices that would otherwise not receive airtime."

basically a muslim coward, what else is new?

isn't it scary and dangerous that those veiled women all seem to be working in schools as teachers?

teachers should be chosen inside the worthy members of society, to show the good example to children (school is the second most important point after family), those burqad women can go clean toilets instead.

just to give you some background of the Al Aqsa "School"

so depressing!

I noticed Ravat used the phrase "Muslims in Britian" as opposed to "British Muslims". I guess we know where he loyalties lie.

"Channel 4's message ... is meant to offer a controversial alternative to the Queen's traditional Christmas Day address on the BBC and ITV. It is thought Channel 4 researchers may have tracked her down after she made a public comment at the height of the controversy"

So, Channel 4 has "tracked down" a speaker for the express purpose of creating "controversy" over the Queen's traditional Christmas Day address.

disgusting

Channel 4 is clearly run by social and moral perverts.

The notion that the list of notorious and nefarious counter-spokespersons are appropriate to place against the queen's address is nauseating.

And I'm a very dim fan of the British monarchy -- but a much dimmer view of idiocy and pathological hatred, which I think their choices indicate.

I am prepared to bet that they are not able to produce any of these alleged "threatening letters from non-Muslims". If they had any they would have been passed to the police. These scum always try to slur non-Muslims, without a shred of published evidence. Yet it is they who are constantly threatening others.

I was taught by Catholic nuns. Quite a fearsome bunch. But I can't imagine what a non-Muslim child would think and feel when confronted with someone dressed like Ms. Ravat.

Why isn't she wearing tinted glasses?

Western societies cannot allow unidentifiable persons to operate in our business and public communities like this. Take your PC garbage and stuff it. This must be illegal in our country. You want to dress that way at home or your mosque or whatever, fine. Don't come into a public meeting with us "westerners" like that without expecting to be shown the door.

Oh, you say your religion calls on you to dress this way and you have the right to do it. You also must know that your "religion" calls on you to kill non-muslims in the name of allah--so you have the right to do that too, right? Might you be a MARTYR? I'm not waiting to find out.

Now, which of us who would do anything that requires ID would be allowed to travel like this? Over in Saudi Arabia--this may be normal--yet those so dressed cannot even drive a car legally there. Who knows what's under that death wrapper?

If someone comes in like this and I am running the counter, I am pushing the "call police" button--NOW!

If someone comes to my door like this, I'm getting my gun.

If someone approaches my kid like this, ....well you get the idea.

The 2nd Amendment is a wonderful thing!!!!!!!

"We remain committed to having a Muslim woman deliver the alternative Christmas message. Part of Channel 4's remit is to provide space for voices that would spit in Christians' faces and otherwise not receive airtime."

"The 2nd Amendment is a wonderful thing"

So that we could all feel free to shoot her?

if a woman does not want to integrate into Western society let her stay back in the middle East were she has to wear the burqa, in the United States and Canada I've seen many Muslim women attempting to integrate and a spoken with them their comment is being their a bit embarrassed to be seen without a whole face covering but when it's hot it is more comfortable but there, compromise is to where a long dark has peasant style dress that covers them from
throat to toe along with a head scarf and in some cases a thin see through veil that is our a threatening to Westerners because we use facial expressions in communications.

al-Aqsa Primary School.

Uh-huh.

And after there they go to Hamas High?

The very fact that we have such an institution as the al-aqsa primary 'school' anywhere in this country is a sure sign that are likely to be the losers in this struggle.

He, he, he, he.

I didn't think her masters would allow it. True to form. Every action is so predictable.

It strikes me that the little kids in public schools here, coming face to face ( no pun intended) with such an apparation - would start strembling in fear.

I knew I had seen this woman before. I forgot it was in the graveyard scene of "A Christmas Carol"
Great memory Allat.

I'm surprised the Islamaniacs even thought of letting a woman deliver this message. After all, women don't count for anything in the cult of death so it would only be fitting for a man to deliver the message.

"erred on the side of caution" after receiving a number of letters, 'some abusive'.

YES! MY LETTER GOT THROUGH MUAHAHAHAHAAHAA....

"In a statement, she said that it was the unexpected publicity around her decision that made her change her mind."

Check. Roger that. Learn from this.

When dealing with lying sacks of Muslim you-know-whats, pull the rock back and shine the light, early and often.

It is ironic that little Miss cover-your-face-up has been so determined to get her head out and about and in everybody's face. But everytime it gets uncomfortable she backs down. Interesting. Noted, cataloged and filed away for future reference.

After receiving so letters that were abusive, she backed down. Very instructive. Might we not exploit the Muslim people's fear of terror, (which apparently keeps them in line to be good Muslims, all the while allowing them to commit atrocities against the rest of us,) in order to "motivate' them not to try their crap with us? I hate to use my favorite analogy again for fear of wearing it out, but when you spray for bugs they usually scurry away, every time you spray. You may have to keep spraying but everytime you do, they run.

Might we not turn the tables on them and send THEM the threatening letters, while getting our guys out of Iraq so that those who are highly motivated to kill people can annihilate each other, instead of us? Just a thought.

This a disaster.

I was using this programme as a pretext to replace my TV; so the family could blow off a bit of steam with some tools and give my old TV a fitting send off to be replaced by the new HD flat screen.

Out with the old

Al-Aqsa

Teaching language: Arabic

http://www.al-aqsa.leics.sch.uk/donations.htm

Al-Aqsa Primary School is an independent Muslim school, founded in 1998, with 230 pupils aged 3 to 11. The school seeks to deliver a borad and balanced education within an Islamic paradigm so that the whole personality of the pupil is developed, insha'Allah (God-Willing).

On the classroom door, the notice says that the first person to say welcome is closer to Allah. As the door opens, a class of grinning children in green, white and grey uniforms live up to the spirit of the message with the warmest of welcomes. This is the Al-Aqsa primary school, named after the great mosque in Jerusalem, which educates 85 Leicester children.

Their parents pay up to £1,200 a year to send their children to the school, which is on the site of an Islamic study centre, in two mobile classrooms that have seen better days. Its resources will be nowhere near as good as some of the state schools in Leicester, and the teachers are not formally trained. It's at least 10 miles from the neighbourhood where most Muslims in the area live and the minibuses that bring them here each day cost extra.

But at Al-Aqsa the children get not only the national curriculum but also Arabic, Islamic studies and history, which includes the Muslim influences on the UK, and they can say their prayers in the prayer hall and wear traditional Muslim dress. There are 175 children on the waiting list.

As Ibrahim Hewitt, the school's Geordie headteacher, who converted to Islam more than 20 years ago, says: "Religion has a role to play in education for families who are believers." His three children have all come to the school; the youngest is still there.

Well for those who think like me, I suppose we wont be listening to Channel 4 again, there is plenty of other times for Channel 4's to provide space for voices that would otherwise not receive airtime." and not at a time where 75% of the people are celebrating something precious to them, once again we are being discriminated against simply because a tiny percentage of people are offended, we are greately offended at them wearing their head coverings but we dont make them take it off yet...
"I have no doubt that Channel 4 will continue with its inquiring and sensitive approach on issues relating to Muslims in Britain.", but when will they start their sensitivity approach towards Christians, Buddists, Hundu's, chinese, etc, of course it will not they are just appeasing the Muslim community, so they must be scared of Islam.
