Playboy editor goes on trial in Jakarta

I was recently hearing from some people about what a wonderful sign of Islamic tolerance was the fact that, although there was mob violence, the government was not moving against Playboy in Indonesia. So much for that. I don't care for Playboy myself, or for anything in its genre. But in a free society, one must put up with things that offend one's sensibilities. Modern, moderate Indonesia, of course, is not a free society.

From AP:

JAKARTA, Indonesia - The editor-in-chief of Playboy Indonesia went on trial Thursday on charges of publishing indecent material — a crime that carries a maximum punishment of more than 2 1/2 years in prison.

A prosecutor told the South Jakarta District Court that Erwin Arnada oversaw photo shoots and published revealing pictures of female models in underwear, some showing partially exposed breasts.

"The models also had inviting expressions on their faces," said Resni Muchtar, adding that the magazine included lascivious and lustful comments.

The defense, which was not required to enter a plea, said it would respond to the charge at a later hearing.

Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation, with some 190 million practicing a mostly moderate form of the faith.

Playboy launched a toned-down version of its magazine in the country in April to protests from conservatives demanding it be taken off the streets. The magazine kept publishing, but moved its editorial offices to mostly Hindu Bali island.

Unlike its American version and editions in dozens of other countries, Indonesian Playboy contains no nudity....

Tabloids in Indonesia, the world's most populous Muslim nation, feature more explicit photos and stories that Playboy's. And pornographic films on video, though illegal, are sold more or less openly at stores across the country.

Indonesian versions of Western magazines FHM and Maxim, which also contain photos of women in underwear, have been on sale for several years with no outcry like that over Playboy, seen as an icon of American cultural influence.

"I don't care for Playboy myself, or for anything in its genre."
-- from a comment above

When A. C. Spectorsky, and then Robie McCauley, were the literary editors of Playboy, it published some of the best fiction in America. Spectorsky and McCauley no doubt could convince Hefner it was okay, because Nabokov had proved his worthiness by writing "Lolita." Thus did "Despair" and "Laughter in the Dark" and other books first appear, serialized, to the American public, and who knows how many Playboy readers whose main literary interest was in finding out, as they stared attentively at Miss May, that her favorite writers were "Camus and Dostoyevsky," may actually have read, after the main event (yes, Playboy being akin to those "inconvenient books," as Rousseau writes, "that can be read only with one hand") a story about Hermann, or about Albinus Kretschmar, a man "who one day abandoned his wife for the sake of a youthful mistress. He loved, was not loved, and his life ended in disaster"? Say what you want about Hugh Hefner, but A. C. Spectorsky and Robie McCauley deserve gratitude for throwing some of Hefner's millions in the right direction -- to writers who deserved to be well-paid. And who were sufficiently above it all not to be impressed by the latter-day editing at The New Yorker, preferring that not a hair on the head of their prose be touched, as the best writers often do.

Hugh, the Rousseau quote is laugh out loud funny. I give it a big 'thumbs up' if you know what I mean. ;))

Sorry.

Hefner should get revenge by putting out a special edition...

"Apposite Muslim Babes: The babes that were too hot for Islam!"

Hahahahahahahahahahahaha!

Oh the howels of protest....

Muslims would say it was worse then 9-11!

"Behead him Caliph!!" "Oh wait dear Muhammed I only have one hand on my sword."

Yeah, even the US government's country report said that situation in indonesia has 'improved'.

Huh, tell that to the non Muslims in Indonesia who have to live in areas where the local government/or official has imposed sharia.

Tell that to the non Muslim whose house have been attacked, pelted with rocks for having prayer meetings at their house.

Tell that to the Christians who can't get a permit to bulid a church, who then held services in a home or in a commercial building, and had those places shut down because they were 'illegal'.

Tell that to the Christians in Central Sulawesi who until now are still being harrassed (to put it mildly) by the Muslims with no protection at all from the government. (Don't ya think having their leaders shot and some students heads chopped of is a form of harrassment?)

Tell that .........

The people who talked about tolerance in Indonesia must be either a Muslim, or an american/european who is living in Indonesia as an expatriate with all the extra income paid by their company so that they are willing to live in a noisy, busy, polluted foreign land. Where to make up for being far from the western conveniences and their families they are paid to be able to live in big brick homes with gardeners, maids and chauffeurs, and be the upper crust in this 3rd world country versus being a regular joe in their own homeland!!!

Or maybe it is a visiting liberal or American government official who only speaks to the Indonesian government officials, who of course is practicing takiya, or who truly beliefs that they (the Indonesian official) are tolerant, becuse they are Muslims.

Just because in the last months or so there have been no bombing, no full scale muslim on christian violence in an area, doesn't mean that there is religious tolerance in Indonesia.

Just because the things I mentioned above are not reported by the MSM, doesn't mean that it is not happening.

Shariah is slowly but surely choking the Christians in Indonesia.

Rapist asylum seeker due damages

Electronic tagging should have been considered, the judge said

A failed asylum seeker convicted of raping a 13-year-old girl is to be awarded damages after a judge ruled he was unlawfully detained in prison.

The 31-year-old, known as "A" for legal reasons, was held for 20 months after serving his sentence while authorities tried to deport him to Somalia.

A High Court judge ruled his detention became unlawful because of its length, and he was entitled to compensation.

Human rights lawyers said he could get up to £50,000 from the Home Office.

Mr Justice Calvert Smith, sitting in London, said the detention became unlawful because of its length, the impossibility of achieving removal and misleading statements for immigration officials.

"Play" an alien concept in Islam-land.
"Boy" an object to be used when 'one hand' is insufficiently exciting.
"Literature" an alien concept in Islam-land.

Clearly, the marketing director of Playboy ought to be fired. Playboy ought to have been selling "Boy's Life" to the same market. These Islamic folks dislike women so much that behaving like a chauvinistic pig would be a giant social step up :)

Now, that's about as dismal as it gets.

I'm sure this is a subject of great hypocrisy in all of cesspoolia-how dare anybody put out such horrible filth. Meanwhile, the dirty old mule-ahs run off and get as many copies as they can so they can lear and drool in the comfort of their own homes. I guess that's to be expected-the averag 12 year old girl isn't as well developed as the women in those magazines. Yeah, it sure must be tough being a "holy man" in Islamania when you have to deal with stuff like this.

Muslims care only about their external image, but little about integrity.
So even if their society looks morally upright for a casual observer, a lot of rottenness is going on behind the scense.
Child abuse is rampant in Muslim societies, and ots of muslim men are addicted to pornography.

But as long as it is secret they don't mind.

From the article, "Indonesia is the world's most populous Muslim nation, with some 190 million practicing a mostly moderate form of the faith."

"mostly moderate"...Read jasmine's post and then read the above sentence from the article.

The old axiom is true, wherever Islam becomes the majority, the infidel population will shrink as fast as their rights.

Playboy, seen as an icon of American cultural influence.

Well, then it was a good thing for the defendant that President Bush was able to get in there the other day and crawl around on his hands and knees and bark like a dog.

A little poem

The Moslem world tries to be firm
And acts like porno makes it squirm.
Their record proves to be quite spotty
For they beslobber MOUNDS of totty!
The Moslem pretense of sobriety
Is shattered by this false propriety,
For peek inside their dirty shanties
And sights abound of frilly panties.
But other sights which you'd find there
Would just quite simply curl your hair.

There's something vaguely pornographic about the virgins of the Islamic afterlife. Maybe someone should point that out to them so that we can get the Koran banned.

"The models also had inviting expressions on their faces," said Resni Muchtar ..."

What a surprise! Who would've thought of that ploy?

Lets have a calendar with 72 muslim virgins, no dogs please!!!

Next, they'll be putting burqas on female orangutans over there (that is if they can find one).
