In the featured article at FrontPage this morning I explain why jihad threats ratchet up around the holiday season (news links in the original):

In the name of God the kind and merciful.”Adding to nervousness among Western officials during this holiday season are indications that jihadists are planning to strike around Christmastime. British Home Secretary John Reid said last Sunday that the possibility of an attack in the next few weeks was “very high indeed,” and British authorities were aware of as many as thirty planned jihad attacks. “The terrorists,” Reid noted, “only have to get through once, as they did on July 7, for us to see the terrible carnage that it causes.”
A French official concurred: “All of the warning lights are red…The threat is at its highest level. All [security] services are on tenterhooks, and it’s not just us [in France]. Work is under way everywhere, but nothing concrete is emerging.”The threat is not confined to Europe. Indonesian officials fear that Noordin Muhammad Top, one of the masterminds of the Bali bombing of 2002, may be planning Christmas attacks in Indonesia.
This is not the first year jihadists have chosen the Christmas season to ratchet up their threats – which, even if they never materialize, are useful in themselves to “to strike terror into (the hearts of) the enemies” of Allah (Qur’an 8:60). Jihadists would want to sow this terror during one of the holiest seasons of the Christian year not just to maximize the potential for terror, but to emphasize that theirs is, as they see it, a holy struggle. The suitability of Christmastime for a jihad attack is an outgrowth of the idea that, in the words of Islamic preacher Husayn Mahfooth Shu’ayb, one of “the most critical manifestations of loyalty towards the infidels” is “celebrating their religious festivals.” Some Islamic clerics have even exhorted Muslims not to extend Christmas greetings to Christians, for that would be seen as an endorsement of their holiday, which they consider has no legitimacy; however, other clerics have rejected this view.
Nevertheless, the idea that Christian belief and observance is illegitimate is deeply rooted within Islam. The Islamic prophet Muhammad composed for the Muslims a brief prayer, known as the Fatiha (Opening), that became the cornerstone of Muslim prayer (it is recited seventeen times a day by the Muslim who performs the five daily prayers) and the first sura of the Qur’an:

The Qur’anic commentator Ibn Kathir (1301-1372) explains that “these two paths are the paths of the Christians and Jews, a fact that the believer should be aware of so that he avoids them. The path of the believers is the knowledge of truth and abiding by it. In comparison, Jews abandoned practicing the religion, while the Christians lost the true knowledge. This is why ‘anger’ descended upon the Jews, while being described as ‘led astray’ is more appropriate of the Christians” (Tafsir Ibn Kathir, vol. 1, 87). Late in his life Muhammad received revelations that were among the harshest toward Jews and Christians than any that he had ever received before, including one that asserted that Jews called Ezra a son of God, just as Christians called Christ the Son of God, and declared that both groups had thereby incurred Allah’s curse (Qur’an 9:30).
If the Christians’ having gone astray is epitomized by their calling Christ the Son of God, and Christmas celebrates Christ’s birth, then what better time to strike terror into the hearts of infidels? Here again, jihadist behavior becomes clear with reference to Islamic beliefs and assumptions. It is good that authorities in Britain and elsewhere are closely monitoring holiday terror threats. It will be even better when they begin to realize the importance of being thoroughly versed in the Islamic theology which motivates and guides jihadists – for only by knowing the enemy thoroughly can he ultimately be defeated.

While it is impermissible to wish the Kuffar "Merry Christmas" with any real feeling, it is permissible to do so if the real object is, in so greeting the Kuffar, to win him over and manipulate him for your own ends.
Two examples:
1) Azzam Pasha, who in 1948 had promised "a massacre the likes of which had not been seen since the time of the Mongols" when he assumed the Jews of Israel could be crushed, realized that it would be necessary, after the 1948 defeat of the Arabs, to win over the West. So just a few years later he was busy wishing the Western world best wishes for the Christmas season. You can find the episode described on the last page of Henri Guillaume's "Islam."
2) Ayatollah Khomeini, who was already long on record with his bloodcurdling hatred and call to war against all Infidels, in 1979, when his power had not yet been fully consolidated, he conveyed his Christmas greetings.
How likely is it that Azzam Pasha, the Sunni leader, or Ayatollah Khomeini, the Shi'a leader, realy wished a Happy Christmas, or a Merry one, or for that matter tidings of comfort and joy, or peace on earth and goodwill toward men, if those they were wishing were Kuffar, were Infidels?

If the concept of "extract(ing) the most violent revenge" makes British authorities and French officials nervous, then it's high time they made a plan to do something about it. This should be heavy on the deterent side with swift and oppressive punishment, not so much to deter the mindless Muslims who are bent on killing themselves for self serving purposes, but to make a big noise so that the average Joe will come to understand what this threat is really all about and just how dangerous it is. And so that Joe and all the other "averages" will stand up as a people and finally say, enough is enough.

Please read a lot more -- at this site and at many others -- we can suggest many good sites where the truth is not hidden or distorted. Give yourself a few months of curious, open-minded web surfing and then come back here.
Rethink your idealistic notions of rape-free, adultery-free, clean and pure Islam. Rethink your definition of freedom which means that a woman must always be accompanied by a male relative. Rethink your notions of happiness and justice too. Frankly I don't see them reflected in Islam.

My wife told me something the other day that you should be aware of. Muslim women, born and reared in the US are not aware of the realities of the Islamic world. They just don't know and worse, they are told that all those things that they hear are just lies told by the infidels who hate all Muslims. There are two Muslim women here at work and they are just exactly where you are. They are convinced that Islam is pure as the driven snow and for them, it is. I tell you for a fact that there is basis for the negative things that you read about Islam and if you are to be honest with yourself, you need to explain a few things with logic and forget about faith for awhile.
That stuff you have been reading on the internet regarding muslim atrocities is mostly verifiable truth. I say mostly, because there absolutely are some stories being made up and passed of as truth by major news sources and that's too bad. Some things that you should be able to believe without much effort:
Sunni and Shiite Muslims fight like cats and dogs, killing each other every time they get a chance.

Outside of the US, Muslim women are indeed second class citizens who are the property, literally, the property of their fathers and then their husbands or brothers in the event of the death of their father.

Speaking of "fraud", I went back and reviewed Maryam's posts and I am not entirely convinced we are dealing with a woman here...at least not the woman "Maryam" pretends to be.
1: Noticing that "her" name has a hyperlink, I clicked on it and was directed to a Windows Live Spaces blog featuring an unveiled woman who's posts were utterly devoid of any mention of Islam.
2: Two of the most recent posts were about the "holidays" and one included the words "eat, drink and be merry".

Your point is well taken! Nowadays being the "M" word should be enough to be rejected for coming into the US. Back in Omar the Pimp's day though, all of them were waved on through. It seems nobody wondered why this loser was ill treated back in the ummah. Had someone looked into it they possibly would have told him to go back to Cairo-sparing the US a lot of trouble.

I think it important to spell out that the vast majority of Moslem 'holy men' think in identical fashion to Rahman. It is this hatred that they spew from podiums in almost every mosque on the face of the planet. It is this hatred that fuels not only the Jihadis but also ordinary Moslems, who would have almost no hope for their future if left to draw the natural conclusions, regarding their god, that must come from calm rational discussion, exploration and comparison.
THEORY 1;
Some people with no country, money, guns or power, think they will bring Western civilization to its knees and force their unpopular ideology to universally prevail by very occasionally setting small explosions that usually involve the death of their followers.
THEORY 2;
Some people who run countries think they will easily change the laws to give themselves total power if the populace is duped into fearing a bogus threat.
You have to admit, that from the point of view of likelihood, Theory 2 is the more likely.

That is where you are wrong. The stories that led you to believe such a thing are lies. There is no compulsion in Islam. Nobody is forced to accept it. There is no wish to attack or kill non-muslims; that is not ordered, it's forbidden, in Islam! Other religions are tollerated, integrated; you don't have to be muslim to live under the benefits of sharia law. And if you knew them you'd want them.

I am the one that lives according to its teachings. You are the ones who take the Sacred Words of Allah: the most Beautiful and Powerful words on Earth; read them translated and out of context, without study or contemplation or guidance, and bringing in your hearts a prejudiced opinion, and expect the full meaning to be the first one that you think of!
What's more, you assume that's the way they are seen by the people who believe them to be the words of The Almighty.

"and you know the beating you will get..." Where do you get this rubbish? There are wife beaters amongst muslims and many more amongst nonmuslims; but it isn't part of either of our belief systems is it?
There is an old English saying: " The proof of the pudding is in the eating."
It means you won't know how good it is until you try it out yourself.
Allah guides those He loves. Have you made any unselfish effort to please God recently? Try secretly doing something nice that you get no benefit (praise, ego, admiration, laughs, money etc) from. It doesn't have to be big or showy or expensive. Try rescuing a small creature like a fly or worm from its difficulty, or removing a harmful object from the road.
Allah loves the pure. Take a shower. Clear your heart of prejudice. Ask Him to forgive the sins you know of and those you don't.
Allah responds to those who call Him. Sincerely ask your Creator, the Almighty, The One God, to make the truth plain to you, to rescue you from evil and lies, to guide you on the right path.
