Suicide attack on seat of Somali gov't at Baidoa, jihadists claim responsibility

An "Islamist military officer" connected with the Union of Islamic Courts recently said: "War is imminent. There is no other alternative." With such brazen attacks in and around Baidoa, the jihadists may now be attempting to provoke Ethiopia into commencing military action on a larger scale, for which it will then be held up as the aggressive party in jihadist propaganda.

Somali Jihad Update. "Somalia on the brink as suicide attack hits government seat," by Mustafa Haji Abdinur for AFP:

MOGADISHU (AFP) - Somalia teetered on the brink of all-out war after an Islamist-claimed suicide attack on the seat of government, and neighboring Ethiopia's decision to authorize action against any Islamist incursion.
Islamist commanders in Mogadishu and the Bay region where Baidoa is located said the attack was aimed at an Ethiopian military position and that between 24 and 40 Ethiopian soldiers had been killed.
"There were two suicide cars full of explosives," Somali police commander General Ali Hussein told AFP, adding that 12 people were killed in the blasts, including one of his officers, the bombers and occupants of a nearby vehicle.
He denied any Ethiopian troops had been involved, saying that aside from the police officer and the bombers, the other casualties were all Somali civilians.
Witnesses at the scene, however, said they believed the death toll was higher and insisted only one car had actually detonated, destroying two other vehicles.
"The suiciders were only using one car, the other two cars were victims of the blast," said Mukhtar Hassan, who lives near the Boynunay checkpoint.
"I was near the checkpoint and before we knew what was going there was some kind of fire and then a huge blast from a Toyota Mark II," he told AFP.
The checkpoint is closely guarded by Somali authorities who keep close watch on those entering and leaving Baidoa, about 250 kilometers (155 miles) northwest of Mogadishu and the only town held by the weak national government.
Security has been tight there since a failed mid-September attempt to assassinate Somali President Abdullahi Yusuf Ahmed, which was believed to be Somalia's first-ever suicide attack.
The government has blamed the September 18 incident on the Islamists, who denied responsibility but have since declared holy war on Ethiopian troops protecting the government.

Actually, Somali's top Islamic Leader, Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys, called for jihad against Ethiopia in July.

General Hussein said the car had been driven to Baidoa from Mogadishu but made no further comment about who might have been behind the attack.
The Islamist commander in Bay region, Mohamed Ibrahim Said Bilal, told AFP the attack was the work of "Islamic suicide bombers" and claimed that some 40 people had been killed.
There was no immediate reaction from government officials or from Addis Ababa.
The attack came hours after the Ethiopian parliament adopted a resolution that called the Islamists a "clear and present danger" and authorised the government to take "any legal action against any invasion coming to our country."
The vote followed an earlier Islamist-claimed attack on an Ethiopian military convoy outside Baidoa and a day after the Islamists accused Ethiopia of shelling a town they hold near the border.
It also came after worried diplomats at the United Nations called on all nations to respect an 1992 arms embargo on Somalia amid reports of massive military build-ups by the rival parties with embargo violations by 10 nations.
Ethiopian Prime Minister Meles Zenawi denied rejected opposition concerns that the parliamentary resolution was tantamount to a declaration of war, saying it gave the government leeway to deal with the Islamists, who he accuses of colluding with arch-foe Eritrea to destabilize Ethiopia.
"From Asmara to Mogadishu they have created a common front on two legs, and in the middle are the Ethiopian groups, forces armed trying to dismantle Ethiopia," he told lawmakers before the vote.

This is what Moslems do.

Or, are the Somalis enraged at the injustice of Israeli settlements?

Yup, the entire Horn of Africa is going to get involved in the upcoming war, with Ethiopia supporting the Somalia government, and Eritrea supporting the radical Islamist...

Certainly sounds like it's going to get nasty...

Where's the UN and NATO???

http://doctorbulldog.wordpress.com

UN= Usleless Numbnuts
NATO= Ninnies Afraid To Object

And those are the affectionate terms of endearment here.

:-)

PS- I'm doing this on the fly with a laptop so typos galore, lol. I'll try to get back later tonight on my desktop.

Surely the southern Sudanese, and at least some group in Darfur, can beg the Americans to come in, and then they should accede. This should be done right now, not waiting to leave Iraq. It should be done, and accompanied by similar measures, that will make it clear that the Americans are not leaving Iraq because they were defeated, but because they intend to more effectively counter the varied weapons of Jihad. Other moves might include, for example, discussion of changes in immigration policy all over the West, loud noises made about security threats to NATO and the danger from Muslims "in Europe seizing control of weapons and armories including nuclear weapons" -- a subject that should be discussed, written about, worried about, made the subject of great interest, right now, all over the nation-states that constitute NATO.

In other words, American (and other Western troops) in the Sudan, as well as Western military aid to Ethiopia or rather to its Christians, can do much to demoralize and dishearten Muslims throughout black Africa. Accompanied by a large and well-financed propaganda campaign devoted to the subject of the long, and continuing, Arab slave trade, and the Arab use of Islam as a vehicle for Arab imperialism, and the mocking of those blacks in the West who have been fooled into becoming pseudo-Arabs, with Arab names and subservience to the Arab National Religion (hence my request for someone to come up with the version of "Uncle Tom" that could apply to an islamized, arabized black man -- a term that needs to be created, for it could be an effective weapon of ridicule, one making the mahdi-brays of this world the butt of jokes, rather than what they think they are). And anything that can be done to split black Africa from the dominating Arabs and Muslims, might also help, if properly exploited, to limit the effectiveness of those well-financed campaigns of dangerous Da'wa in our prisons, especially in the United States and Great Britain, directed particularly at black prisoners, disaffected and Searching for an Answer. That Answer is Not the Arab National Religion.

For god's sake, is there nowhere in the Pentagon an office devoted solely to figuring out how best to demonstrate resolve while, at the same time, leaving Iraq so that we can take advantage of fissures within the Camp of Islam just as Muslims in Europe have been exploiting for years the fissures within the Camp of the Infidels, playiing especially on the coarse anti-Americanism and the inextinguishable though at times containable antisemitism of too many in Europe?

And there should also be, right next to that office, one labelled "Black Africa" and dedidated to figuring out how to support the Christians in the Sudan, in NIgeria, in Ethiopia (all of whom have been the victims or targets of violent Jihad -- i.e., Jihad pursued through the instrument of qital or combat), and indeed, up and down both sides of the Continent, even in places where the Muslim pressure is hardly noticed in the West but is very clear to the black Christians themselves, as in the Ivory Coast, Senegal, Liberia, Togo, Uganda (when Idi Amin was in power), Kenya, Tanzania, and in many other places.

But one suspects that there is not the Big Office devoted to coming up with a To-Do List of things that must be done before (that is, right now) and during, and after the American withdrawal from Iraq, which must be pursued whatever our president, that Captain Queeg, that Man Without A Country, keeps insisting on. This is a democracy and it is time for the village elders (not the Bakerites of course, not the collaborators of the Raymond-Close variety, but whoever can be rounded up to represent the untainted and the intelligent) to tell this Man Without A Country that the Iraq-the-Modelling Play-Dough just has to be put away. Recess is over.

NATO is engaged in Afghanistan, BullDog. In case anyone forgets, the numbers Canada has lost in military action there (not to mention those lost in peaceful duty like the two blown up the other day while handing out candy to kids in the street) is pretty significant. England is also fighting alongside. The U.S. is not alone in NATO action there.

Some of the NATO partners are less willing to commit to military engagement, though Germany and France have large contingents in the country -- they are just in safe areas rebuilding instead of fighting. Our prime minister has just campaigned for more support on the front, and Europe is slowly agreeing to commit a few fighters. They need to nail this case shut so they can move on to places like Somalia.

So many Jihadists, so little time...

I'll not mention France but before one starts running down Germany for being reluctant to march out and start killing people, let us at least acknowledge that, after the the two big WW's it is a good thing that the Germans show some control. It may be an annoyance in situations like this, but it gives me some hope to know that a country that produced the Holocaust, the Hitler Youth, tried to take over the world (and very nearly succeeded) has the moral fortitude to collectively reject the sins of the past and strive to live peacefully.

My highest hope is that these Islamist regimes that are the Nazis of today will one day be in the same place, contributing positively to the world community and sitting back wringing their hands over whether or not to engage militarily in other people's conflicts. It's a good thing, not a bad thing, to have neighbors (particularly those who at one time were homocidal maniacs) who think twice before pulling the trigger.

The world as we knew it is really starting to unravel.

Any PCs watching?

What you say is true.. but when all the other countries also feel intimidated to fight the islamists as they must be fought then not only Germany is in deep trouble.

Since Germany knows they don't wish to pull any more triggers from now on then they should take care not to bring people into the country who will make trigger pulling unavoidable one day.

Hugh... that was 100% accurate and on point. I am beginning to feel all our Western countries are one big rudderless ship.. led by a bunch of monkeys who do nothing but hold their hands out for money wherever they can get it.. while they cover their eyes and their behinds.

None of them have any pride.

scum

what makes this even more frightening is: THESE FLKS KNOW EVERYTHING THAT HUGH JUST WROTE and they continue to let the ship drift right into the oncoming storm.

SHAME on them!

Now the enemy are getting a prayer room at the airport in Minneapolis!

Wow, what is happening in my country? How can this be allowed? Oh, but then the people of Minnesota just voted a Muslim into Congress. The citizens of Minnesota must have the lowest IQ in the country.

Bonniea, a person who lives in Tennessee is called a Tennesseean; a person from Mississippi is called a Mississippian. What is a person from Minnesota called?

A dumb-ass.

Some caution here before supporting anyone.

At any rate the Somali governmernment at Baidoa is made up of Muslim fanatics. Maybe not as fanatical as the more radical as Sheik Hassan Dahir Aweys' faction, but still pretty bad.

I'm writing from Maine. I counted over a dozen Somali Muslims at the Wal-Mart while shopping for a kitchen appliance tonight.

Someone posted a while back that there was a migration of some 100,000 Somalis to Maine once the word went out about some kind of social welfare program.

Can anyone back up the 100,000 number? It would make for nice dinner conversation. I think I'll go watch Blackhawk Down and reflect on this wonderful new diversity.

Anybody know of a good Jihadi-killing mercenary army I could join?

Yeah, I'll just bet those diplomats at the Urine Nations are all choked up over this. When will they send in the peekeepers so the jihadists can continue their buildup in peace?

By the way, has there ever been a Muslim war that wasn't "holy"? Illah must be the fattest god
of all time on the 1400 years of blood he has drunk thanks to all this piety.

Dont say anything to the religion, its the people who are crazy doing crazy things in the name of religion. They are the people who haven't truly understand the real meaning of Islam, and have misconceptions of Islam.

Where have we heard 'that' before. Is there someone hear who does not 'understand' the 'real meaning' of Islam? And is there anyone here who has a 'misconception' of Islam, Is there anyone hear who believes that Islam has been hijacked by a few misunderstanding crazys?...Please raise your hand...Thank you Naseem and thank you Malcom X. Obviously you are both 'Abdallahs', slaves to Allah. Only 'Abdallahs', talk like that, and only Abdallahs believe that...

I DEMAND a church and a synagogue in the same airport!!

germaninamerica ,

and perhaps a chapel in the aircrafts *coughs and laughs*

I just was going to spill my coffee over the keyboard.

MalcolmX,
nobody has misconceptions of Islam. there are those who are supporting it on one side, those who know it only too well on the other side and don't like it, and then a big mass of people who could be fooled by anyone, but who will soon enough know islam well the way things are going.
Words fail when one wants to describe how evil islam is.
