Syria building 'death trap' villages for Hizballah-inspired conflict with Israel

And when Israel responds to attacks, it will be assailed in the media for attacking "civilian" villages. "Syria building 'death trap' villages," by Yaakov Katz for the Jerusalem Post:

Warning that Israel may face a "Syrian intifada," a high-ranking officer in Northern Command has told The Jerusalem Post that villages recently built by Syria along the border are planned to be used as "death traps" for IDF troops in Hizbullah-inspired attacks.
Since this summer's war in Lebanon, Syria, the officer revealed, has invested large amounts of money in replicating Hizbullah military tactics, particularly in establishing additional commando units and fortifying its short- and long-range missile array.
The idea is to draw Israel into an asymmetric war, the officer said, like the warfare the IDF encounters in combat against the Palestinians in the West Bank and Gaza Strip as well as against Hizbullah in Lebanon.
Over the past two years, Syria has built a number of villages along the border with Israel, some inhabited and some not. At first, the IDF was not sure of their purpose. But now, following the war, the officer said, it was understood.
"Syria drew motivation from Hizbullah's surprise success this summer," the high-ranking officer said. "They now want to copy that type of guerrilla warfare."
While for years it was assumed that Israel had a major edge against Syria's military with regard to a conventional war - tank versus tank, jet versus jet - in an urban setting, the Syrian military would be able, the officer said, to wreak havoc against IDF infantry and armored units like Hizbullah did.
According to the officer, Syria has drawn three major lessons from the war and has begun to implement them. The first is that rockets - 4,000 struck northern Israel during the 33-days of fighting - can paralyze the home front. The second is that antitank missiles can penetrate the Merkava tank and force infantry units to abandon armored personnel carriers and trek into enemy territory by foot. And the third is that in villages and cities the Israeli Air Force's abilities are limited and IDF ground forces can be defeated.
During the war, the IDF fell into several deadly ambushes in southern Lebanese villages; one in Bint Jbail killed eight soldiers from Battalion 51 of the Golani Brigade.
The Syrian military, the officer said, was conducting urban warfare exercises in preparation for the possibility of a war with Israel. The IDF has also dramatically increased its training regiments and has, at all times, between two-to-three brigades training in the Golan Heights.
Lacking clear intelligence regarding Syrian intelligence, the officer said that the Northern Command's "working assumption" was that there was a possibility of war and there was a need to prepare accordingly.
While defense officials have crisscrossed in recent weeks concerning the sincerity of Syrian President Bashar Assad's offer of peace, the top officer said that, according to "all the signs," Syria was preparing for war with Israel. The Syrian military has beefed-up forces along the Golan Heights and Israel has done the same. In the Hermon, for instance, the IDF has doubled the number of troops.
"The feeling is unfortunately that another round is needed before we will be able to engage in a dialogue or peace talks with Syria," the officer said. "It is like with the Egyptians. The war in 1973 was what made it partially possible for [Egyptian president Anwar] Sadat to come to Israel."
Syria, the officer said, has since the war ended, transferred truckloads of weapons and missiles to Hizbullah. Due to the convoys, Hizbullah, he said, was almost back at its full strength where it was before the war with Israel.

Syria can do all these things it is true. Unless they have a wasp on their butt. I still like the F-14. Nasty bit of equipment that.

The Syrians know the Western media inside out. It's so easy. They, and the rest of the Islamic world, can play it like a violin. Provoke Israel into a war, then ensure Israel gets the wrath of the Western media, and thanks to our media, get world opinion (and victory) onto their side. We can see it now - the next time Israel gets forced to go to war against Syria - innocent civilians killed indiscriminately will be the headlines in the gullible West.

So I take it that they will be employing human shields. Villages are useless if they lack human shields, since the IDF can just bomb them flat. I think.

Use Daisy Cutters. Less faux 'evidence' afterwards.

Okay Israelis- make sure the IDF knows about 'death trap' villages. The simple solution to this is to avoid & destroy all villages when going into Syria.

If it gets to an invasion of Syria - level every village you pass from the outside.

Israel - flatten everything you pass by in Gaza, the West Bank, Syria, Lebanon and Jordan(?)

When you go back you'll have a no-man's land ringing your border.

Considering that Israel is basically in a fight for it's own existence, I think they should use the media in the same way the enemy is. Widely broadcast these missives, then flatly state that there will be no "urban warfare" in these villages - it will be "scorched earth", in order to kill the enemy as well as protect their own troops.

In the event of hostilities breaking out, just deliver the news to the target areas that they are set for destruction, and the civilian population has X number of hours to get out. Then, level them.

If large numbers of "innocents" are discovered afterward, it would be obvious that they were being used as human shields.

Either way, works for me.

As the mahometan intruders in Lebanon re-arm, the Israelis should supply every Maronite household with a scoped high-powered rifle. When the savages start to move those syrian rockets into Christian neighborhoods, that should signal the start hunting season. No bag limit.

Peace on Earth, Good Will towards Men, but Death to Islam.

From my Christmas card to the local ACLU chapter.

"Syria, the officer said, has since the war ended, transferred truckloads of weapons and missiles to Hizbullah. Due to the convoys, Hizbullah, he said, was almost back at its full strength where it was before the war with Israel."

Syria should have been a black stain on the world map decades ago. Now they are just asking for it.

But again, we are lead by people that have the fortitude of butterflies, so Syria and Iran laugh at us and make more weapons to put in the hands of more killers and terrorists.

This is the same Syria that the traitor John Kerry just went over seas to meet with on his 'fact finding' mission which was really a thinly disgusied attempt to get Syria involved in Iraq, promissing them of course the Golan heights and Gaza strip thus giving Syria the perfect vantage point from which to attack Israel from. Kerry should be tried as the lying dispicable traitor that he is! http://sacredscoop.com

them "villages"sound like a great first place to use the M.O.A.B bomb.

NICE!!!

The chinless opthomologist is pretending he has balls. Very convincing.

Hopefully when his minions decide to run a traditional prehistoric Arab raid on the Golan Heights, the West will finally remove the inexplicable shackles of white guilt from Israel and let the Israelis kick som ass like we all know they can.

Plague,

I answered you on the other thread. Take a look.

Amazingly naive how it's suggested we should "get syria & iran involved" in iraq...when they already ARE involved, in conjunction with the other, and are the #1 problem (politicalcorrectness on our part is a close #2)

But don't count on Kerry being tried...his ass is covered the same way it was when Clinton gave him an official pardon (original charges were High Treason-fraternizing with the enemy as a naval officer, conduct unbecoming, dereliction of duty, aiding and abetting the enemy in wartime- I saw it myself FIRST HAND) in January 2001 as he left the "oral orifice" (coincidentally, the same moment his naval discharge became official- and amended, never mind his "service" was 30 years earlier- BIG hint) so don't bother, despite the fact that Amendment XIV Section III rendered him ineligible to even hold office at all, since the outgoing "precedent"s getting away with it since his days as a state attorney general on up made that meaningless. Besides, they're marginalized irrelevants and there are bigger fish to fry now.

Bottom line...syria's planning a setup,in direct conjunction with iran, and hoping to set up the US if they can, in order to ignite a worldwide conflagration masqueraded as a west vs islam in classic taqiyyah fashion, and in direct image of the clasic asymmetric/proxy warfare toaught to them by the one power who's been behind them, and all of this to begin with...China (as per their PLA intel officers book "Unrestricted Warfare" published in 1999, 2 years before 9/11,and will tell you everything you need to know) who is also fanning the islamofascist flames to keep us busy until they can fulfill their own military aims of conquest,as per their military memos we've read since 1974 (and ired them so in 2001 as per the EP-3 incident they also helped set up).

The only unknown is when this will go down, only that it won't be long in coming.

How does the Neil Diamond song go… we come to America, Today. Come on *****ers, as the President has said, Bring It On, we are waiting for you!

PS… my house is bobby trapped as well, and I sleep with an axe and a long knife as well as a gun.

where's bobby hiding, is he a big f***er with an axe?

It is obvious that these tactics seek to use the West's decency against itself. The West seems incapable of accepting any level of civilian casualties, even when the word "civilian" belongs in quotes. These villages only represent an obstacle to a modern military that would rather expose its members to death and dismemberment than accept the temporary public relations hit associated with "excessive" civilian deaths.

We need to stop pretending that our enemy is only the regime in charge and that the people are our friends. If Israel or the US gets into a conflict with Syria or Iran or the Saudis for that matter, I hope and pray it will not be a partial war like Iraq, but a total war waged against the regime and the populace until they submit -- not to the will of Alla, but to the will of the US.

Then we can impose a modern constitution upon them that respects the rights of religious minorities and women, we can close the mahdrasahs or control what they teach, end sharia once and for all, and impose a permanent separation of mosque and state.

This WWIII would result in massive civilian casualties, topple many of the governments in the Middle East, require massive sacrifice by our soldier class, but for the muslims that managed to survive the carnage -- their children would finally have a chance for a better life.

Hey, I have a fried named bobby and he is psycotic, but he listens to everything I say.

Ok for the last time who is running this thread? Dammit delete all my posts, who cares , only the world hangs in the balance., not that I make any difference. As I see.

I would imagine the Syrians aren't the only ones who learned lessons from the summer. Israel will probably come up with a few goodies to counter Syria's tactics. Of course, an old fashioned blitzkrieg that wisely ignores the world's reaction would be quite effective as well. If Syria is tupid enough to trigger a war I certainly hope Israel goes at them and Hezbollah vigorously and utterly devestates them. Wipe out as many of the bastards as possible.

But is he a big f***er with an axe?

"Wipe out as many of the bastards as possible."

IFL, that is exactly what WE've been doing in iraq for almost 4 years (looking at it from the other side of the coin- like a vortex,it sucks all the terrorists in to fight, that could have been available elsewhere in the world to attack us, and get ground up in a meat grinder, ala zarqawi...the more that die there, the less available to pursue interests in OUR country...and with loss rate only 10% of that of vietnam, and less than 5% of that of WWII).

Actually, I think that bloody nose of Israels (even though nasrallah got a LOT worse than that) will prove more a blessing in disguise than anything...a reality check not to let down the guard, and not to get complacent since the enemy is trying new tactics (remember the same thing happened 1967 vs 1973 when the enemy changed tactics).

Ya see, sometimes what apears to be a loss can actually prove otherwise in the end...the best military mind is compelled to evaluate what went wrong, and apply what's been learned. 10 to 1 the IDF has done just that.

;-)

Yup, some good work has been done there in the last four years (which was one reason why I favored being in Iraq) but it still wasn't enough-too many "holies" running around with their own private armies need to be zapped. Now it's time to let those idiots do the dirty work and kill one another. Yeah, this sounds cruel but better that than to have Americans die either in Iraq or at home. Israel will need to surpass the US in destroying the enemy should Syria attack- any halfway measures will bite Israel sometime down the road.

Until Mr. Ohlmert is out, Israel will suffer for trying to please too many masters--the USA first, the UN, the Arabs and world opinion. Look at "peace" with Egypt-a farce. Once the Israelis get sick of the carnage of appeasement--Netanyahu will be back in charge--just as Israel called on Sharon to deal with Arafat after Barak's days of appeasement.

Ohlmert is now taking "peace talks" with Abbas--give me a break. He may give up the Golan Heights to the Syrians too to appease them as the "Baker Commission" (whatever you call it) called for. I just cannot believe he can be so dumb. Yet, I'm sure he will sit down and negotiate some phony peace deals that will mean Israel will surrender land for the illusion of peace. At some point when it is too late, Israel will have to get real--to deal with the Ack-ma-nutjob, the Syrians, the hizbos and the palestinians--Ohlmert shows he doesn't have the GUTS to do what needs to be done--look at Lebanon this summer as evidence.

Mr. Netanyahu will do what needs to be done. That is what I see coming from this mess. The Russians are an accomplice to all the foes of Israel. It looks to me like the set up for Ezekiel 38-39. I hope you all know what that means.

The article doesn't explicitly explain the term "death trap villages". I am thinking about what happened in Chechnya in the assassination of President Kadyrov. The jihadists put bombs into the concrete as it was being poured to build a new stadium, and months later, blew it up, killing Kadyrov during a ceremony. They could easily be putting in hidden weapons and explosives (and/or chemical weapons) during the construction process. If civilians are living in the buildings when the explosives are detonated, the Syrians would consider them expendable, and the MSM will believe the Syrian claims that Israeli missiles did it.

In the Lebanese war, the IDF was persuaded by "world opinion" that fighting from the air would cause too many civilian casualties, so they felt compelled to send troops in on the ground, putting them in a vulnerable position.

One day, Israel, and the U.S., U.K., Australia, and Canada may decide that half-measures will not work, and only endanger our own troops.

This article just re affirms that the Mind of the Muslim is a dark and oh so twisted place. what a despicable hive of scum Islam is.

well Syria, as got its butt kicked every time. It has attacked Israel in the past. So, perhaps, guerrilla warfare, something Arabs are good at. Besides, hiding behind women and children just might win them some battles, but Israel just needs to tell the world media. Okay, rockets are killing our people and are being launched in this village and then go in and drop two or three blue hades fuel air bombs on these Potemkin villages and a level them.

We have to realise that these creeps have told their people that Allah has said that if they die for him that they are assured a place in paradise.. how cunning is that...These poor retches never know if Allah will permit them into paradise even unto death, but Allah said that if they die for his cause they are assured a place, so guys what do you think they are going to do eh, they will sit around there waiting for their death and will be so dissapointed and mighty mad at Israel for not killing them... sounds stupid, well read the quran eh..

Al Jezeera and other Arab TV outlets will broadcast all video that shows the Israelis as brutal aggressors. They will inflame the Muslim world. Thus when Israel makes a move into Syria to terminate rocket and missile bombardment this rallies all Muslims.

It's a very difficult situation. It can be dealt with but Arab TV broadcasts and the stupid Western press are impediments to righteous warfare by Israel and the United States.

Wooden Bombs

Perhaps the action called for here would mimic that recounted in an old, charming and possibly apocryphal British WW2 RAF tale..

"Another enemy decoy, built in occupied Holland, let to a tale that has been told and retold every since by veteran Allied pilots. The German “airfield,” constructed with meticulous care, was made almost entirely of wood.

There were wooden hangers, oil tanks, gun emplacements, trucks, and aircraft. The Germans took so long in building their wooden decoy that Allied photo experts had more than enough time to observe and report it.

The day finally came when the decoy was finished, down to the last wooden plank. And early the following morning a lone RAF plane crossed the Channel, came in low, circled the field once, and dropped a large wooden bomb."

I think this would send out the appropriate message to the Syrian Shiacrats ;-)

Merry Christmas everybody!

My heart goes to Israel, knowing they are trying desperately to engage in peace, while the idiots are planning attacks. Something is going to lower the Muslim population and it isn't going to be pretty either; at least it'll even-out the odds for Israel anyway.

This whole situation needs to be attacked from several angles.

1. The media angle. It's obvious that the MSM is heavily biased against Israel. Together with Al-Jazeera, Israel is isolated, with any public support steadily being eroded by unfavourable coverage.

So Israel needs to get smart. There IS a powerful Jewish lobby in the US. A lot of Jews work in the media. The background needs work, affirming a greater pride in and awareness of being Jewish. That means less emphasis on the Holocaust and other episodes of persecution as a binding and identifying factor for Jews. It means more emphasis on the positive aspects of Jewish culture. This can win over a public that is tired of Holocaust guilt - possibly the single greatest factor fuelling antipathy in people who otherwise wouldn't care if a person is Jewish.

Following on from this, Jews will have the opportunity to become more assertive in the media. This is the most important thing. With a steady, sustained and clever public relations campaign - which points out Israel's virtues and the enemy's deception and evil - world opinion can begin to be won over. Never mind France, that nation is a lost cause... and forget Germany, for obvious reasons. But the UK, yes. Remember that if the US and UK are onside, not only does that cover possibly the two most influential nations in the West, it also covers a goodly chunk of the world's media.

2. With the media in the bag, Israel should concentrate forces on anti-guerrilla war. There is no actual need to engage the enemy inside these villages. They can learn from successful campaigns conducted by other countries and aim to ambush and destroy Syrians when they venture out to attack Israel. This involves putting teams on the ground, much like the Special Forces in Iraq in 1991. They drop into Syria, are resupplied by air, spot missile bases and call in airstrikes, and aim to identify routes taken by Syrians when they venture towards Israel and ambush them. Minimise casualties, avoid directly engaging the villages and continue a simple, inexpensive and low intensity campaign that aims to whittle down Syrian forces and their ability to fight effectively. Imagine them ambushed at every turn, their every missile launch met with an accurate airstrike, their patrols picked off, their "villages" isolated by air and commando attacks that prevent resupply - all at little cost to Israel.
