Of course Islam is not to blame for the problem. Never mind that rather than regarding women as human beings equal to men, the Qur'an likens a woman to a field (tilth), to be used by a man as he wills: "Your women are a tilth for you (to cultivate) so go to your tilth as ye will" (2:223).
The Qur'an also declares that a woman's testimony is worth half that of a man: "Get two witnesses, out of your own men, and if there are not two men, then a man and two women, such as ye choose, for witnesses, so that if one of them errs, the other can remind her" (2:282).
It allows men to marry up to four wives, and have sex with slave girls also: "If ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly with the orphans, marry women of your choice, two or three or four; but if ye fear that ye shall not be able to deal justly (with them), then only one, or (a captive) that your right hands possess, that will be more suitable, to prevent you from doing injustice" (4:3).
It rules that a son's inheritance should be twice the size of that of a daughter: "Allah (thus) directs you as regards your children's (inheritance): to the male, a portion equal to that of two females" (4:11).
Worst of all, the Qur’an tells husbands to beat their disobedient wives: "Men are in charge of women, because Allah hath made the one of them to excel the other, and because they spend of their property (for the support of women). So good women are the obedient, guarding in secret that which Allah hath guarded. As for those from whom ye fear rebellion, admonish them and banish them to beds apart, and scourge them" (4:34).
It allows for marriage to pre-pubescent girls, stipulating that Islamic divorce procedures “shall apply to those who have not yet menstruated” (65:4).

I am sorry to hear of this and everything that goes on. I love England. It just saddens and sickens me that the governments all over Europe are allowing this to happen. And I bet there is not a lot of attention to this paid by the media, like here at home. So much of what is happening around the world is not being reported.

I don't want to send Hugh and Mr Spencer into shock here, and I know that the misogony is directly from Islam (as cited above from the ahadith and Koran), but I don't think that we should discount the possibility that some of the hatred, violence, rage, etc. have feelings of sexual inadequacy as an aggrevaiting cause. True story: Following hurricane Katrina, I was traveling in the car with my brother from Florida to Texas. As you can imagine, hotel rooms were in very limited supply.
We managed to find a Comfort Inn in some tiny town at about three in the morning. My brother went in and asked if the clerk if there were any available rooms. The clerk said he had available rooms.
My brother returned to the car for me and our overnight bags. While we waited to be booked into the room (the clerk was actively entering my brother’s information into the computer), we had a conversation that obviously indicated we were not married.
The clerk, who was middle-eastern, immediately stopped typing and told us there were no rooms available. I can’t tell you without a doubt that the man was Muslim, but since they claim to number between one and two billion, it’s a pretty safe bet. What this man did was impose his personal values on others. I’m sure we could have secured a room had I shown the man my license which still bears the same last name as my brother and then explained to him that I’m not allowed to travel without a male family escort.
That would have appealed to his Muslim sense of propriety and would have probably gotten us a suite. We used the restroom and left. I’m not going to support a business that would deny a room to weary travelers following a natural disaster. When we phoned Comfort Inn headquarters to complain, we were told the hotels are individually owned and can make their own rules. Too bad we are white or we could have sued for racial discrimination. How long will it be before women without veils are denied entrance to Muslim owned businesses?
