LONDON, Dec. 24 (UPI) -- Immigration officers at British airports will begin lifting the veils of passengers to verify identity, The Scotsman said Sunday.The order came after it was revealed that suspected killer Mustaf Jama flew from London's Heathrow airport to Somalia using his sister's passport. He is believed to have worn a woman's niqab, which has just a slit for eyes, and was not required to lift the veil.
The requirement has drawn criticism from unions claiming it will impose impossible demands on its members, particularly women, who would be the only ones allowed to look under the veils, the Scotsman said.
Home Secretary John Reid is planning to enforce the requirement before considering more stringent measures, a Home Office official said.

The veil should be banned on all flights. Even if they do end up lifting the veils, who is to say that a Muslim woman could not be carrying explosives with her underneath all her garb. Seriously, they should be required to dress in regular western clothing. There is plenty of infidel clothing that is modest enough (but then modest to me means not having boobs on display). Muslims may slam infidel dress sense, but if they were required to wear western clothes on flights, since less is hidden it would be much harder to sneak explosives on.
First we start checking under the veil to see who is there, the next thing you know we may bomb the Natanz nuclear reactor. Baby steps come first.

It is just the latest idea to remove more cash from the ever-dwindling disposable incomes of the populace. The fact that foreigners spending less than six months in the UK will be exempt from the ID card requirement provides all the proof you could ever need of this obvious fact.
Our present Government has one obsession that towers above all others, and that is (of course) to find new ways to steal money from pockets and bank accounts. The British police are cowards because they've been cowed into silence by the well organized Muslim whiners, whose main tool is threatening others when they don't get their way. It doesn't matter whether they threaten to blow themselves up, blow you up, or ruin your life with a vicious, aggressive lawsuit, the common denominator is the threatening. Ibrahim Hooper threatens. Osama threatens. The PLO threatens. Everyone involved with Islam threatens when they don't get their way.
When my kids were teenagers, sometimes they would threaten to call the police when I was enforcing the rules and I told them I meant business and they weren't getting away with what they thought they should. It was those times when I would tell them, " go ahead, and let me dial the number for you." I called their bluff every time and kept the position of authority in my family. It's the same thing here. Some bleeding hearts over in England probably told the cops that they had to be sensitive, they had to win hearts and minds. Screw that! Let's get down to the business of taking our rights, our laws and our countries back. The life you safe will be your own.

Obviously. the regulations leave it to the 'discretion' of the immigration officer which gives politicians deniability. Just watch an officer face a "customer" complaint and be suspended and have black marks all over the personnel file.
British Ports do not have full-time Immigration Officers as they are sent out in teams to hunt down illegals for deportation. Some airports like Leeds/Bradford do not even have 24-hour immigration to meet flights. The Unions don't want responsibility without authority - that is Management by Fear

It's a start. Maybe this will give other nations (US) the courage to do what is right and make everyone who goes through a security checkpoint remove ski masks, veils and any other facial coverings. The only exception should be coverings that are required for medical reasons (such as burns) and have approved supportive documentation.

Sorry, I must disgree with that. The basis for my disagreement is because the Police have got strict orders NOT to offend the Muslim community. Pretty much their hands are tied by beurocrats who quite frankly don't know what they are talking about.
Take this stupid example for instance:
UK police are not not allowed to take sniffer dogs into Mosques to search for explosives in case it offends Muslims. In all seriousness, the only reason that officers would do such a search to begin with is if they had reason to believe that there would be something to find. They are also not allowed to arrest Muslims during Ramadan (which in my opinion is as silly as not being allowed to arrest a Christan during Christmas).
It isn't that the police don't want to do their job, it's that they are actually prevented from doing their jobs effectively. I have respect for the police themselves, but I do not respect the new laws which stop them from doing their jobs. I say this as a Brit, so I know what I am on about. Our police are certainly not cowards, they just have to obey what orders they are given or face the consequences. Of course they're allowed to see to the chavs who vandalize things, but not the real problem. I'd rather cope with a vandalized bus station, general antisocial behavior and juvenile delinquency (since these are not really a threat to British society at large and certainly not a threat to human lives) than have a terror threat.
Just my personal opinion.
