One of the alleged July 21 bombers fled London after the attempted attacks disguised as a woman wearing a burka, their trial heard.Yassin Omar was captured on CCTV at Golders Green coach station in north London and at Birmingham coach station disguised in the traditional Muslim women's dress.
He was picked up on the CCTV just a day after the attempted attacks, Woolwich Crown Court was told.
Prosecuting counsel Nigel Sweeney said: "CCTV shows him and his fiancee at Golders Green coach station and him at Birmingham coach station that evening disguised in the burka."
OK folks. Please! It's time to ban the burka!
Call me a skeptic but this alledged hate crime includes no mention of any witnesses. Why should we take this women's word that she was attacked in such a way? Did she even give a description of her assailant? What proof does she have that this crime occurred?

John Simpson, the BBC reporter, entered Afghanistan in 2001 just before the war there started, dressed in a burqa. The damned things were almost designed to be used as a criminal disguise and ought to be banned from western countries forthwith.
This could work both ways. Recently, some 'palestinian mujahadin' sent for the women and children to provide cover to run away (as they are wont to do, instead of fighting in the way of allah against actual soldiers who might hurt them.) Suppose those female burka'd chattel were to include one or two dozen Israeli soldiers, even female soldiers, who might then be better positioned to give the 'mujahadin' their ticket to 'paradise', whether they want it or not?
Are we allowed to wear Nazi uniforms to work/school ... in public - ever ? Why are these people given a pass for wearing the equivilant?
By all means, wear a burka while showering and for sex, if you must .. but when you leave the house .. you do not have permission to wear Nazi-like regalia.

In the debate over a school girl demanding to be allowed to wear a headscarf in school (in Australia) one federal government minister said that it was not a matter of the girl following her "religious beliefs", it was simply an act of defiance.
The minister was right. There are more and more hijabs, niqabs, and even buqas seen now than ever before. This is not, I believe, because there are that many more muslims here over the last couple of years. More like an act of defiance. They use it to set themselves apart from the community they've chosen to live in while taking every opportunity to complain that they don't feel "included", and are subjected to "discrimination" and "harassment". The men, except for very, very few choose Western-style clothing, not "religious" garb. Why is that?

I would generally agree with you. Before 9/11 to see veils and the full islamic get up was rare now they are quite common - I would say almost always on young women with English accents. However, maybe its only in the north of England but we have always had a fair number of men in Asian/middle east costume with just an anorak over to keep warm.
Has anyone here in the US seen anyone with a full face veil or burka? I'm just curious. I live in California, where there are a lot of muslims, and I've only seen women in hijabs. Are there places in this country where muslims take it to the next level.
