Bravo. This is the kind of thing we should have been seeing in Iraq and Afghanistan all along, and not infrequently, if what the media and government have had us believe were true. From CNN, with thanks to the Constantinopolitan Irredentist:
KABUL, Afghanistan (CNN) -- Two civilians thwarted an attempted terrorist attack Tuesday when a vehicle loaded with explosives attempted to crash through the front gate of a U.S. base in the Afghan capital, according to the U.S. military. The two men, an interpreter and a security guard, dragged the apparent suicide bomber from the vehicle before he could detonate explosives, said Col. Tom Collins, the chief spokesman for U.S. forces in Afghanistan.
"I think it's a pretty amazing and heroic event," Collins said.
He said that at about 9 a.m. Tuesday (10:30 p.m. ET Monday) a driver crashed his vehicle into Camp Phoenix, the base where the Afghan National Army and police are trained. The driver reached for what appeared to be a cord to detonate a bomb, he said.
"Amazingly, a couple of Afghans who just happened to be on the scene there realized what was happening," Collins said.
"Anyone's inclination would have been to run away but these guys are genuine heroes," Collins said.
At least some good news on the anti-jihadi fight.
To those Afghans who stood up to terrorists I thank you most sincerely! I am very impressed.
A nice story for a change. Now these guys will be targeted for death by the peaceful ones. Hopefully nothing will happen to them.
Congrats to them. Sadly the Taliban thugs will deem them bad Muslims and will have them slaughtered like they slaughter the infidels.
If anyone deserves Canadian or American ceitizenship it is these two , becasue they will now face death penalty from Islamists.
Remove citizenship from 2 mullahs who preach hatred and give these 2 citizenships. they deserve it instead of thsoe immams who wann stay as US/UK citizens and still preach jihad.
"The two men, an interpreter and a security guard..."
-- from the article above
Presumably both were working for the Americans. The security guard's job was to guard that very base, I assume, and the interpreter's job was to translate from English into whatever language, among the many possiblities in Afghanistan, was spoken.
Are these, then, properly identified when they are described as "civilians" merely because they are not part of the Afghan army?

Rajesh.. I've only seen you on here recently.. but what I've been reading always makes a whole lotta sense! I wish they'd remove citizenship from 202 imams!!!
It's great to hear good news for a change. I've reached the point where I don't bother watching the mainstream media anymore - it's as though they're a collective closed loop.
Something's suspicious about this story. How long does it really take to pull a detonator cord? Less time, I would wager, than it would take to approach the vehicle and open the door, (and why weren't the doors locked)? And why is there no mention of what happened to the bomber afterwards? Lastly, anything coming from CNN must be given a large dose of skepticism.
Back to this for a moment.....
After days of searching newspapers and the web for
news on that ch4 Dispatches programme at last>>>>>

Obviously judging by many forums it didn`t go
unnoticed...why the "silence" though ?
Re: ch4 Dispatches programme
I thought this was going to get a little more coverage than it did - perhaps in the next few days. I did come across this article in The Age.
Also, some interesting comments at the Guardian. One poster explain that he got these two comments from the MPACUK site. Though when I went to check them out - I take it there were deleted as I can't find them, but there is a reference to AK.
It is indeed refreshing to see a positive action taken by the Afghans , no matter who they are..Now, if only we could convince a few million others to act accordingly....
Either you are a Muslim and believe the Koran or you are not Muslim. What is it that is said that is not in the Koran? What is it that is said is not written. It is duty of Muslim to make Great Britain a Muslim nation. Wen GB is Muslim nation then people who choose not to be Muslims must be treated as directed by the Koran. Jews and christians are people of the book and they must be protected until the days they accept Islam. other peoples make the chose between Islama nd death. If you not believe this then you are not Muslim. There is no other way only one way Islam."
-from above post
Here's one guy who makes no attempt to misinterpret the Koran. He also seems to have a feeble grasp of the English language.
"Anyone's inclination would have been to run away but these guys are genuine heroes," Collins said.
You bet. These guys know that it's because of such wackos that non-Afghans are there at all. We would have been long gone from "Iraq" if it were not for the belief-system wackos and the ethnic hatreds in "Iraq". I'm coming to the conclusion that under all the platitudes re tolerance etc. in Islam, there is a very ugly Arab racism that has crippled the minds of non-Arabs. The belief-system is cover for deception, exploitation and violence with the center being Mecca and the non-Arabs bowing to their masters.
"Jews and christians are people of the book and they must be protected until the days they accept Islam."
And just who is protecting them against the violent onslaught of the Muslims??? Certainly not the Muslims! .... Just what has he been smoking?
I pray for all those concerned
No, sorry... can't quite find... em, which sura is that again?
I wonder if these Afghans are members of the Chritian minority there? There obviously don't seem to share the Orclike "hate everybody else" mentality of muslims in general.
Oops! Sorry! Another typo above. Obviously, I meant "Christian."
"Something's suspicious about this story. How long does it really take to pull a detonator cord?"
I guess you've never heard the term "assisted suicide bomber." Some of the exploding jihadists (almost always dead) have been found chained to the steering wheel of vehicles or unknowingly have a handler who can do the detonation remotely. The problem for the "head" jihadists is that some of their minions tend to have second thoughts on pulling the trigger at the last moment, so a delay in one blowing himself up is not surprising.
As an aside, my son has done tours in both Iraq and Afghanistan and said he liked and trusted the Afghans much more than the Iraqis. Of course it goes without saying that "trust" is a relative term when used with or in comparison to Muslims – especially Arab ones.
