This whole piece is superb, especially this: "While the civilized world worries that violent video games can lead to real-life violence by our children, the Muslim world worries that their children’s real-life violence can lead to, god forbid, playing video games."
"Left Behind Leaves Wal-Mart Ahead," by Julia Gorin at Political Mavens, with thanks to Tommy:
Wal-Mart may be the first corporation to not cave in to Muslim offense-taking and demand-making. The retailer is continuing to sell the “Left Behind: Eternal Forces” video game despite CAIR’s complaints — rather than pull the product and put employees through sensitivity training like every other company has done so far when confronted with even a single complaint by a Muslim.Nike was one company that went the sensitivity-training route when the script logo on some of its styles was accused of resembling the word “Allah” in Arabic. The employees undergoing Muslim sensitivity training were last seen praying toward Mecca five times a day, and several were crushed in the annual Hajj.
According to CNS News, CAIR says the game, based on the Christian book series Left Behind, “glorifies religious violence,” and as everyone knows, only Islamic leaders and imams are allowed to glorify religious violence.
CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad wrote a letter to Wal-Mart CEO H. Lee Scott saying, “In the post 9-11 climate, when improving interfaith relations should be a priority for all, this type of product only serves to dehumanize others and increase interfaith hostility and mistrust.”
Translation: Fighting back against Islamic hostility increases hostility. We thought we could trust you to just grin and bear ours.
Also among Awad’s objections was that “the game’s enemy team includes people with Muslim-sounding names.” What should the names sound like? Shlomo Levy? Everything but Muslim?
CAIR, which received complaints about the game, “charged that players are rewarded for either converting or killing people of other faiths,” and demanded, “Why are you stealing our ideas?! We have a copyright on that stuff!”
Actually, the game “calls for people to join the Tribulation Force rather than die at the hands of the anti-Christ. ‘You’re trying to save other people from that and ultimate judgment by God,’” according to Jeff Frichner, president of Left Behind Games.
Still, it’s understandable that a “violent and hateful” video game would cause concern among Muslims. While the civilized world worries that violent video games can lead to real-life violence by our children, the Muslim world worries that their children’s real-life violence can lead to, god forbid, playing video games.
If the civilized world is right about video game scenarios translating into real-life scenarios, it means the game could lead to future generations fighting back against “the forces of evil” for real — like, say, jihad or something. In which case this game should worry Muslims. In fact, that’s probably why they’re worried.
Can you get that game in Europe ? never mind I will be in the States on thursday so I will go direct to the nearest Walmart and get a copy - anyone know if there is one next to the Detroit motoshow which is where I will be on saturday - I will also be buying a PS3 which is not yet available here!!
Here's a good idea.
A great way to raise money for the cause.
Anti Jihad Game. Play out your fantasies when you get frutrsted reading about the direction things are going.
Just think of the sales potential. just check the numbers at the site. $39. x 6 Million? Wow.
"CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad wrote a letter to Wal-Mart CEO H. Lee Scott saying, “In the post 9-11 climate, when improving interfaith relations should be a priority for all, this type of product only serves to dehumanize others and increase interfaith hostility and mistrust.”"
Yes, and we've certainly seen their attempts to improve interfaith relations. Once they learn to take some criticism without puffing up their chests and waving their fists like mad while always playing the Islamophobia card, then maybe they'll be able to participate in some mature debates and maybe, just maybe, something will change.
Edit: Once the people of Islam learn to take some criticism....
Good for Wal-mart I'll start shopping there again.
Excellent! A small step in keeping with anti-dhimmitude, but quite welcome by this infidel.
I hope this is one story that makes the MSM.
"CAIR Executive Director Nihad Awad wrote a letter to Wal-Mart CEO H. Lee Scott saying, “In the post 9-11 climate, when improving interfaith relations should be a priority for all..."
That's a hot one! How do Muslims improve interfaith relations? More kidnappings, beheadings, rapings, suicide bombings and endless attempts to acquire weapons of mass destruction isn't a normal person's ideas of improving interfaith relations yet that's what we have seen plenty of since 9/11 from the peaceful ones. Besides, why is it always the infidels who must improve such relations given such insanity?
I just hope WalMart sticks to its guns and doesn't waffle sometime in the future.
CNN Headline News recently aired a report about the British Muslim who was found guilty of soliciting murder and inciting hatred.
The reporter then interviewed a Dhimmi challenging the conviction of the British Muslim. The Dhimmi's reasoning? Well, the "reasoning" went as follows: "If British Muslims are not allowed to incite others to commit murder, then their speech is being stifled. And, if speech is stifled, then British Muslims will be forced to 'express' themselves using violent means. Thus we must allow British Muslims to preach hatred and solicit murder, so as to pursue peace."
Oh the hilarity. If such reasoning is sound, soon British shopkeepers will be required to allow shoplifters to freely steal items from the store shelves. Reasoning thusly: "If laws against theft are enforced, obviously, more violent means will be employed by the theives to acquire said items -- namely armed burglary. Thus to prevent armed robbery, we must allow shoplifting."
"While the civilized world worries that violent video games can lead to real-life violence by our children, the Muslim world worries that their children’s real-life violence can lead to, god forbid, playing video games."
What a oxymoron! Lets hope wal-mart dont cave in on this one.
Wal-Mart is in a fairly unprecedented position wherein it can do just about whatever it wants and nobody can do anything about it. Maintaining positive public relations is for Wal-Mart all about one thing only: cheap merchandise. They get away with outsourcing and strong-arm business tactics because they are able to put the in-demand goods on the shelves and undersell everyone else.
Wal-Mart recognizes that Political Correctness is not a majority sentiment. They have been known to censor music, movies and video games that they feel are objectionable according to Wal-Mart's moral code, often with the urging of Christian groups (Wal-Mart more than makes up for this with such lefty-friendly offerings as organic hippie chow and ethanol fuel). This time, Wal-Mart has been asked by an extremist group (which is currently in the hot seat thanks to Senator Boxer) to pull a video game based on a best-selling series of Christian books. For Wal-Mart, refusing to do so was no principled stand; it was a no-brainer.
Hopefully other companies will follow the lead and realize that you score zero points by caving to any one who shows BS indignation over your business practices. This could also be a huge foot-bullet for CAIR in another way: publicity will spur sales, increasing demand for Christian video games, leading to the production of more titles. Could Crusader Force: Jerusalem be far behind?
Living, as I do, in Walmart's home state, I know what kind of loud, well orchestrated howl would be raised if the home office caved on this.
The folks in Bentonville know who butters their bread and it is NOT the Muslim community.
Way to go, Wally !
Rock n Roll ain't noize pollution.
Red Necks unite! The working people of this nation would be a juggernaut if properly addressed.
This is the funniest thing I've heard all day!
Still, it’s understandable that a “violent and hateful” video game would cause concern among Muslims. While the civilized world worries that violent video games can lead to real-life violence by our children, the Muslim world worries that their children’s real-life violence can lead to, god forbid, playing video games.
Heh heh
Even though I shop more at Costco than Walmart, I've never been a fan of the Walmart boycott calls - anybody who doesn't like their health coverage or business dealings is free to work elsewhere. I do admire them for their willingness to not go PC. When Sheryl Crowe did her song about Walmart selling guns to kids, the store retaliated by not carrying her CD's.
Good for them. And for those of you pro-Infidel Leftists currently boycotting Walmart - please cease.
I'm going to buy a Daisy Red Ryder BB gun from Wal-Mart... they are $25.50 at Wal-Mart and that beats Bass Pro Shops by $4.50.
Yes, hooray for Wall Mart. And yes, CAIR has no standing when it complains about viloence of this kind after apologizing for and even supporting Islamic violence. However, the theme of the game and the Left Behind series as well as the whole end times BS is a Christian supremicist delusion.
Anyone who believes that there is a heaven, and you can't get into it without being a follower of Christ is delusional. If you believe you cannot be "saved" or "redeemed" without Christ you are delusional. If you believe that there is a force out to get you; the anti-Christ that includes everything non-Christian and must be fought you are a paranoid delusional. If you believe Islam is out to get you you are right. Christians lose a lot of credibility when they think they have to convert the world (although the world would be better off if they could convert Muslims).
I think our Jewish, Hindu and Bhudist brothers would have a good complaint about these books and games; although still these items should be protected under free speach and free commerce.
Have to applaud Walmart's stance, but agree that anyone who buys into the end of days tripe is an idiot.
But there are plenty of games out there probably more violent, so CAIR should call for a ban of ALL violent or intolerant games.
Like starting with a good chunk of the passages in Sura 9.
I wonder how many nanoseconds it will be before CAIR comes out with a Jihad Video. The market is tremendous; they could make a real killing, any which way you look at it.
Let's keep in mind that Muslims "condemn" whatever is expedient to condemn in the name of Islamamania. The moment they think of a killer-ap for whatever they've prohibited .. they follow the example of their leader - go up to the virtual cave and come out with a new ruling: Abracadabra & Allahshazaam - magically .. video games become a required part of the cult.
Hey...every time CAIR complains, there should be a counter complaint about CAIR and its dealing with the various terrorist organization and terrorist individuals.......Maybe Walmart can print up some paper targets showing the CAIR emblem in the bullseye.....
CAIR's whole agenda is hypocritical (what we, as Muslims are allowed to do, you as Infidels are not allowed). Or as the article translates: "Fighting back against Islamic hostility increases hostility." How many times has the MSM repeated that canard? "Killing Islamists in Iraq creates Islamic terrorists." Sure, tell me another one.
The corollary to the above injunction is the "we're being persecuted because we're Muslim!!" or "how to stop Infidels from apprehending terrorists." Thus, the "persecution" claim is made for any Muslims engaged in suspicious behaviour, particularly at airports -- as if there is no reason at all for airport security guards to be at all suspicious of a Muslim covered from head to toe in black, clutching a Koran, and exclaiming while approaching security: "Allahu Akbar!!"
I suppose it must be CAIR's job to stretch the bar for what should pass as "normal" -- thus enabling their Muslim Brethren in arms to go about unapprehended, and to turn the very people who would protect us (that's airport security and the police) into the enemy.
But then, that is the topsy-turvy world inhabited by the pursuers of the 7th century.
Papa Bear writes:
"I think our Jewish, Hindu and Bhudist brothers would have a good complaint about these books and games;"
Well, I can only speak for myself, but, being
Jewish and all that, this stuff doesn't bother
me at all. It's been quite some since Christians
have taken a warlike attitude towards subjugating Jews, and American Christians in
particular have been historically more friendly,
despite theological differences. I just don't
see American Christians as a potential source of
violent antisemitism. Abe Foxman is delusional.
I'd be more worried that the whole thing is a
bit tacky and in bad taste, but given the
era we live in, that's to be expected.
" although still these items should be protected under free speach and free commerce."
Of course. If the Koran can be sold, how can
anyone criticize a game where unbelievers are
slaughtered and sent to Hell?
We need more video games like that.
We could forget about the converting part though.
Our children must learn early on, because they (and their children) will be fighting this war long after we're gone (unless we have a sudden and dramatic about-face in our policy vis-a-vis Islam.
"I wonder how many nanoseconds it will be before CAIR comes out with a Jihad Video. The market is tremendous; they could make a real killing, any which way you look at it."
CAIR would, loudly and with fanfare, put a thousand miles and a brick wall between itself and anything that smacks of Islamic violence.
They would, however, own stock in the company.
Speaking of anti-dhimmi games:
Hugh, how did that meeting with Mr. Fish and Mr. Richardson go?
Of course. If the Koran can be sold, how can
anyone criticize a game where unbelievers are
slaughtered and sent to Hell?

Don't expect logic from these Mo-Foes or they wouldn't be moslems in the first place.
If I had the know-how I'd design a game called:
Mission: Infinite Justice.
Wherein the player has to plan and execute the destruction of the Iranian nuke productions.
Players could choose whether they'd prefer to be IDF or USAF. For those who are really daring there could also be an option to marshal whatever forces the EU has at their disposal. Part of that plan would be of course getting all the countries lined up and the project underway without any leaks.
Damn, I'd invest in a PS3 if they had a game like that!
BART (playing a Christian video game while consoling Rod and Todd): Ooh, full conversion!
ROD: No, you just winged him and made him a Unitarian.
-From Simpsons episode “Alone Again, Natura-Diddily”
"While the civilized world worries that violent video games can lead to real-life violence by our children, the Muslim world worries that their children’s real-life violence can lead to, god forbid, playing video games."
Huh? Where exactly did CAIR say or insinuate that? What exactly does it mean? That Mommy worries about little Mohammed waging jihad out in the neighbourhood, not because it's wrong to kill people, but because it might inspire him to come inside and sit in front of the X-Box? This is beyond lame. As an English teacher, I would give this a F-minus.
Please, if you're going to publish articles to back up your own arguments, try to make them intelligent and coherent. This one is neither.
While I have utter contempt for CAIR, my opinion of the Left Behind series and the twisted, un-Christian ideology behind it runs a close second. To repeat Shakespeare's wonderfully versatile words: a plague on both their houses.
To the angloirishslav,
Allow me to explain to you the quotation, in simple English. The western world worries about children playing violent video games because the west frets that this could possibly lead to children becoming violent -- meanwhile, Muslim children throughout the Islamic world are taught how to load AK-47s, how to kill and maim and fight the Infidel (in the event you haven't been paying attention, in the Palestinian controlled areas, the Jihadists run summer day-camps for children to practice military tactics, even the CBC has reported on this) -- but, of course, for an organization such as CAIR, real violence taught to elementary schools children (along with hatred of Jews) is NO problem -- it's the alleged, video-game "violence" these CAIR hypocrites deplore. I particularly enjoyed the CAIR hypocrite's claim: "this type of product only serves to dehumanize others!!" Ja. meanwhile, listen to the recorded radical sermons at mosques around the globe which glorify, exhort, and/or celebrate the murder of Infidels.
Wal Mart should have told C.A.I.R. that the video company probably got the idea for the video from watching a jihadi video.
I detest the Left Behind people - they are a bunch of fanatics and their "Christianity" is as sound as a three-dollar bill. Having said that, though, it is interesting how sanity, banned from most official discussion, finds places to hide in popular culture. The greatest popular success in half a century, the Harry Potter novels, are a tale of unyelding resistance against terrorism and intimidation. It has been pointed out that the Big Bad, Lord Voldemort, is typically terroristic in his tactics - murder not only to destroy enemies but to intimidate the mass, obscure and never quite defined demands, and at the same time infiltrating collaborators at the top levels of the legitimate authorities - remarkably like certain "staunch allies" we wit of and their paid stooges at the high levels of government. Mrs.Rowling is, in ordinary life, no more than the ordinary kind of leftish mind, so one really has to assume that the tone and content of her novels has more to do with "the prophetic soul of the wide world dreaming of things to come" than with any personal convinction; and that really is a remarkable phenomenon.
The Harry Potter novels are not the only case either. A great deal of contemporary fiction in all the popular media seems calculated to unconsciously prepare its readers or spectators to a fighting frame of mind. At some points, the effort seems almost conscious. Christopher Golden is the best and most prolific author of Buffy the Vampire Slayer spin-off novels. Listen to the pay-off line at the end of one of his best:
(Buffy is speaking) "...See, it takes two sides to fight a war, but only one to start it. Sure, you're supposed to turn the other cheek, but what if you do and they hit you again? We're in a war against enemies who don't just want to conquer us. They want to burn us all off the face of the earth. I'm with you guys in that we need to try our best to avoid the fight if possible. Nobody wins. Last night's a perfect example. But if you think you can avoid war just by wishing it away, you're kidding yourselves." And the title of the novel? "The Wisdom of War". This one is so close, even in word-by-word parallelism, to things that Hugh and Robert have been hammering away at for years, that I wonder whether Mr.Golden had been intending to send his readers a coded message, or at least consciously prepare them to understand a frame of mind. But at any rate it shows that the moonbat mentality does not triumph in popular culture as one might have feared.
In the post 9-11 climate, when improving interfaith relations should be a priority for all, this type of product only serves to dehumanize others and increase interfaith hostility and mistrust.

Somebody, anybody, in the mainstream public discourse let the Islam speak for itself? Refer to the Koran, the Hadiths, the Sira, what's prayed 5 times daily, what's sermonized every Friday, what's lectured in the Madrasas, what they're all thinking, all of them, with one level of intensity or another.

The infidels should not think that they can get away from us. Prepare against them whatever arms and weaponry you can muster so that you may terrorize them.
--- Allah calling for widespread terrorism against non-Moslems in Koran 8:59
That seems clear enough. Why not use this and thousands of other nuggets of undeniable discredit against them I dunno.
Interfaith hostility indeed.
That was bugging me. I knew I posted about this video-game about a month ago. Finally found it. It's here. Ahh, relief.
Now I dislike Wal-Mart slightly less.
The "improving of interfaith relations" seems to me to be nothing more than a farce. You have these so-called "moderate" muslims running around trying to convince everyone theirs is a peaceful religion, while at the same time telling us in a "Wizard of Oz" like manner to "ignore the man behind the curtain"!! The man behind the curtain of course, are those who show the true face of islam, which is that it is the religion of piece(s)(of infidels/ Christians/ Jews) who dare to speak out against them. America just needs to wake up and see through the smoke and mirrors. By the by, I practically laughed myself hoarse reading this article.
