BEIJING - Police found links to international terrorist groups during a raid on an alleged terror camp in China's restive western Muslim region last week, the Foreign Ministry said Tuesday.
Police said they raided a training camp run by the East Turkestan Islamic Movement, or ETIM, in the mountainous Xinjiang region on Friday, killing 18 suspects and arresting 17 others.
"There is a large amount of evidence that shows, including evidence we got from this raid, that the ETIM is associated with international terrorist forces," said Foreign Ministry spokesman Liu Jianchao.
He also said that the group "planned, organized and carried out a series of violent terrorist activities in China."
Liu gave no specific details about the alleged evidence or attacks and did not say which overseas terror groups those arrested were linked to. China has said before that ETIM has links to al-Qaida.
China labels ETIM as a terrorist organization, as does the United States.
Song Hongli, director of the general office of the Xinjiang Public Security Bureau, said Monday that one police officer was killed and another was wounded during the raid.
The official China News Service reported the raid occurred in Akto County — an area about 120 miles east of China's border with Kyrgyzstan.
Police seized 22 grenades, parts for 1,500 more grenades as well as guns and handmade explosives, the Xinhua News Agency said. The report cited Xinjiang police spokeswoman Ba Yan as saying that the suspects operated mines near the camp to raise funds, but did not specify what sort of mines.
Liu said the 17 arrested suspects would be handled according to the law, but didn't say where they were being held or what charges they faced.
China has long said that militants among the region's dominant ethnic Uighurs are leading a violent Islamic separatist movement in Xinjiang. The Uighurs are Turkic-speaking Muslims with a language and culture distinct from the majority of Chinese.
Critics accuse Beijing of using claims of terrorism as an excuse to crack down on peaceful pro-independence sentiment and expressions of Uighur identity.

Reports suggested that the US had been hunting Fazul Abdullah Mohammed, one of the FBI's most wanted men.

Maybe at this point Beijing will put two and two together and figure out (or ADMIT anyway) that Iran is complicit with this (China IS saying that these terrorists are linked to foreign militant Islamic networks)and cut off its economic ties to Iran.

Philippine soldiers kill Al-Qaeda-linked bomber
ZAMBOANGA, Philippines - Soldiers in the Philippines have killed a bomb expert from the Abu Sayyaf group linked to Al-Qaeda in a jungle clash, a military spokesmen said Wednesday.
Binang Sali, also known as Abu Freedom, was slain by army rangers in the jungles of Mount Pula late Tuesday in the southern island of Jolo, said regional military chief Lieutenant General Eugenio Cedo.
Sali's body and his .45 caliber pistol were recovered after the clash but his other followers escaped, Cedo said.
Sali is believed responsible for a string of bombings in Jolo island and had trained other
Abu Sayyaf members to carry out bombings and assassinations, the military added.
The Abu Sayyaf group has been blamed for the worst terror attacks in Philippine history, including bombings and mass kidnappings. Security officials have linked it to the Al-Qaeda network of Osama bin Laden.
Abu Sayyaf leaders are on the run from a military offensive in the southern island of Jolo.
Military chief General Hermogenes Esperon said membership of the group was believed to be down to about 450.

Shiva seems to be able to get hold of some quite nasty pictures of Islamic peaceful acts. Perhaps he could get hold of some of the many atrocities carried out by Islamics against the Chinese in various Asian countries, and perhaps they can be placed so that the Chinese public can see them.

Arms haul in Kochi from Dubai container
Godown owned by IGP's brother used for storage
Kochi Customs stumbled upon a huge cache of sophisticated arms from a container stored in a Cochin Port godown owned by the brother of a controversial senior IPS officer who holds the rank of Inspector-General of Police.
The container, which was shipped to Kochi from Dubai on January 4, had 810 boxes. Officials, during a routine check, found high calibre guns. A subsequent search of 110 boxes has yielded 97 guns, of which 49 are meant for training and 38 are rifles.
Rema Mathew, Additional Commissioner of Customs, speaking to mediapersons said the guns were shipped along with knocked-out furniture. Officials are continuing their search and the exact number of weapons being smuggled in can be ascertained only after all the boxes are opened.
The seized guns are manufactured by Beretta, Walther and Gamo in Germany, Spain and Italy. The guns meant for training are from Gamo. A person who receives training with these guns can operate any sophisticated rifle, according to experts.
Sources said the role of Islamists is suspected in this attempt to smuggle guns into the country.
Kerala Home Minister Kodiyeri Balakrishnan told mediapersons in Thiruvananthapuram that the Government has ordered an immediate inquiry into the seizure with ADGP, Intelligence, Jacob Punnose, heading the probe team.

The State police have once again been caught on the wrong foot and there are several versions emerging on the present seizure. According to top police officials, there had been tip offs from Central intelligence agencies on the reported movement of containers within the State from ports like Mangalore and Kochi and there was also information about the possibility of arms transfer through the State".
