If we can't share a toilet, can we share a country?

Andrew Bolt asks a trenchant question in his blog in the Herald Sun (news links in the original; thanks to Rosie):

How to make trouble for moderate Muslims with noisy “tolerance” for the extremists:
A ROW has erupted over Muslim-only washrooms at La Trobe University that can be accessed only with a secret push-button code.

Muslim students have exclusive access to male and female washrooms on campus, sparking claims of bias and discrimination.

What possible reason could there be for going to this expense in dividing Muslim students from everyone else, reinforcing the unhelpful notion that the two are so dangerously different?

Victorian Muslim community leader Yasser Soliman said the washrooms were necessary…

“Muslims need to wash their feet before prayer and in the past there have been complaints about them washing their feet in sinks, so this is a happy medium,” he said.

Let’s pretend we actually believe Soliman. Solution: Just put up notices explaining the feet-washing. Or install a separate sink in the communal toilets, at a handy foot-washing height.

But insist all faiths share the same toilets. If we can’t even share them…

The Islamaniacs truly are nuts. Now they WANT Jim Crow type conditions wherever they live in the West? Jim Crow ended in the US in the 1960's and apartheid ended in South Africa in the 1990's but these idiots seemingly want to turn back the clock to those types of things. I guess if they can't live in the year 630 they might as well shoot for something more recent. Unbelievable.

Exactly! Turn back the clock is what they seem to want all over the world, and they have the nerve to call Israel an apartheid state.

I wonder who paid for this "apartheid"? I suppose us poor old tax-payers.
Unbelieveable!

I'm not sure this would be much better, Robert. It's still a concession that would involve inconvenience those of other or no faith, at the expense of the taxpaying public of those faiths, and an open invitation to legitimately practise one's religion in a way that imposes on some of the most intimate aspects of other's lives.

Besides, in most of the men's washrooms I frequent, there are already handy porcelain fixtures at about the right height, most of which have handy "flush" mechanisms for ablutions. Perhaps helpful signs could be put up, at very minimum cost, explaining the dual function of these units.

ISLAMFORLOSERS, They want Jim Crow for non-muslims and they want to assert THEIR superiority by demanding separate lavatories. After all, we're the filthy ones and they do not wish to be contaminated by us. Personally, I would prefer not to share toilets with them because their contempt for sanitation is revolting, but I do pity the poor souls that have to clean up behind these crude, nasty beasts. The powers that be should insist that muslim janitors tend to muslim pig sties, or make them clean up after themselves.

In one way I'd be quite happy not to share public accomodations with moslems.. and my suggestion would be they leave altogether for the lands of the umma so they won't be bothered with our presence.

May I suggest the university install separate drinking fountains :-) Label them "kuffaar" and "moslem".

Why not let the students get a tast what life will be like under moslem rule.

They'll either have to put up a HUGE fight or they'll have to live with being shunned IN THEIR OWN LANDS!!!

I HAVE JUST ABOUT HAD MY FILL WITH THE SCUM!!!

What is it about these politicians that they refuse to grow a pair? They should actually HAVE a pair to begin with!

Have you ever been quietly washing your hands at a sink, say in an airport bathroom, and had to endure someone at the next sink taking off his shoes, and then his socks, and then rolling up his trousers, and then lifting up and right into the sink next to you a particulary unattractive and hairy leg, and a foot that certainly needs washing, and then busily scrubbing it, and then repeating with the other foot, and then with the arms, and parts of the face and neck, and you can say nothing, you must say nothing, even though you have seen people wash outside mosques in the Middle East who always seemed to do it in a much more cursory fashion, and you cannot help thinking that there is a little bit of stick-it-to-the-Infidels in all the sloshing and making of a mess.

Shall I go on? Shall I descrube the particular practices I observed, and Russians observed and wondered about, of Arab students at Soviet universities, the ones who took seriously the need to follow the injunction of Muhamamd that one "must not defectate into still water" (see Al-Qaradawi's handbook to halal and haram), which meant that the toilet itself could not be used (with its "still water") but that one had to choose another place and so....

I can't go on. I go on.

No, this isn't the place for Beckett.

Let me just say that if you have lived in societies where Islam is the rule, or had a chance to observe them up close, you know what I am talking about.

It never ceases to amaze me.

Erratum:

It ceases to amaze me.

I agree with you. For any Infidel janitor to be cleaning up any toilets used by Muslims is equivalent to subjecting him to jiziya, sans the actual payment. If any of them read the citation below, it would make them want to switch careers immediately.

And Jim Crow/Apartheid style laws aside, I too don't like the idea of sharing toilets with Muslims. Granted, I don't like the idea of sharing anything with Muslims, but toilets are near the top of the list.

It ceases to amaze me. Posted by: Hugh

They actually have handbooks that teach them this - like Reliance of the Traveller, which I believe came out of al Azhar, in Cairo. It's nice that institutions of higher Islamic learning have this covered (in a manner of speaking):

The Reliance of the Traveller. Version 1.06 - By Ahmad Ibn Naqib Al-Misri
BOOK E: PURIFICATION >> Chapter E-9.0: Going to Lavatory
E-9.5: Use of dry substances or water
Stones suffice to clean oneself, though it is best to follow this by washing with water. Anything can take the place of stones that is a solid, pure, removes the filth, is not something that deserves respect or is worthy of veneration, nor something that is edible (O: these being five conditions for the validity of using stones (N: or something else) to clean oneself of filth without having to follow it by washing with water).
But it is obligatory to wash oneself with water if:
1- one has washed away the filth with a liquid other than water, or with something impure;
2- one has become soiled with filth from a separate source;
3- one's waste has moved from where it exited (n: reaching another part of one's person) or has dried;
4- or if feces spread beyond the inner buttocks (N: meaning that which is enfolded when standing), or urine moved beyond the head of the penis, though if they do not pass beyond them, stones suffice.

Ban Muslim Immigration Now....

The Muslims are truly a sick lot.....

How about installing pay showers. At least make some money off their desire to cleanse in public places...

They don't bathe for weeks on end. They wash the feet, the arms, the face, rinse their mouth and wash their ears prior to banging heads on the ground. This "cleaning" process is called as "wudu" or "wazu". It is disgusting to watch. It is considered that one is "clean" when one has done this, and that is why muslims don't take showers like you and I. They think that they are "cleaning" themselves 5 times a day already, and feel no need to shower. Visit a muslim ghetto, the **** places STINK.

These muslims are actually quite clever. When living in Cairo it was common to find muslim men involved in homosexual encounters in any toilet they could find. Westerners learned to stay away from restrooms in KFC's, BK's and any other public place. Here they get to practice their sodomy without consequence, in private, secure in the knowledge that only other willing participants can get through the coded lock. QUITE CLEVER of them.

In the States we fought to end Black-only Washrooms and White-only Washrooms. This division in British washrooms at the university, although not racial, is appalling. The political leaders of Briton are failing in their duty to protect the Queen, Country, and its Citizens.

I really hope for the sake of Briton that another Winston Churchill rises up before it's too late.

It is a quandry, isn't it ? I cringe at the thought of using a toilet after it has been used by a muslim. Thankfully, I am a woman - using a men's room must be so much worse.

Still, I cannot agree that we should provide them with separate washrooms, or separate anything. This is a giant step backward.

For once I am not in agreement with most of the posters on this topic because 13 or 14 years ago I was helping to attempt to get a certain English university (I will not name it) to install separate washrooms and lavatories for Muslim students.
This university has gone out of its way in recent years to entice students from Malaysia and Brunei in particular and the Arab world in general to attend. It regularly awards honorary degrees to the ambassadors and leading academics of wealthy Muslim states. Its student Muslim society takes over the Student Union concourse for a week once a year for the propagation of Islam at various stalls, along with talks, video shows, free materials (some of it openly anti-Jewish) and other enticements.
Just for the duration of this 'Islamic Awareness Week' all the Muslim students are en-masse openly friendly with the non-Muslims, even some of the females will smile slightly at male students asking questions about Islam.
Although I was aware of the alien washing habits of Muslim men I was unaware until one particular morning of the problems female members of staff were having with Muslim female students.
I used to enjoy a chat with a lady who ran a department and was a no-nonsense character who pointed out a Muslim girl to me in the library on this morning and told me that she had earlier caught her washing her feet down one of the lavatories. I then discovered that female members of her team were also getting turned off by the filthy habits of the Muslim female students, but what could be done, especially as political correctness would prevent some of her team complaining no matter how justified?
I made a suggestion which she acted on and she took it to the top with my suggestion of separate washrooms while stressing that it was based not on race but on religion.
Unfortunately the matter was aborted before it could even be discussed: the top level decided it was akin to apartheid, would alienate all those fee-paying guys and gals from the honeypot of the Muslim world and would be seen as 'racist'.
On a more workaday level: has it ever ocurred to the patrons of what are called 'Indian' curry restaurants in the U.K., but which are in fact almost wholly Pakistani and Bangladeshi-owned, that the way the cooks and waiters wipe themselves is done according to Muslim custom and not according to U.K. food-handling regulations. A factor which British environmental health officers look for (unless themselves Muslim one supposes) is a jug of water on the staff lavatory cistern or near it. This is for cleansing the left hand by pouring a little water over it. Any toilet paper is strictly for show.

The solution seems fairly simple to me. Give them their own washroom, and and the same time forbid them to use the other "non-Muslim" washrooms. Then wait for the screaming to start.

Alternatively, non-Muslim students could [non-violently, you understand] break down the doors to the Muslim-only washrooms and stage a sit-in, or rather, "shit-in", refusing to leave until this ridiculous policy has been aborted.

gross - I'm not shaking hands with any muslim ( even the right hand)

To moris2:

Your anecdotes are interesting, but I think the solution you proposed was wrong. It was indicative of the kind of naively idealistic liberal thinking that has increasingly gotten us into such a mess; the belief that if people bring distinctly non-Western habits and customs into a prodominantly Western environment then the majority is obligated to make changes to accommodate them. This is a relatively recent about-face which I believe is based almost entirely upon a combination of guilt and a peculiar kind of rigid, secular moralism. When I started university 20-plus years ago there were plenty of international students, including students from Muslim countries. Some of the women wore headscraves, some did not. But nobody made any accommodations to allow them to get down on the floor and pray five times a day, nobody fretted about providing halal food in the cafeterias, and nobody dreamed of providing them with their own washrooms. Their beliefs were respected but not deferred to. It just seemed to be widely understood that a certain amount of adaptation on THEIR part was to be expected, for the privilege of acquiring a Western education, eg., saying their prayers quickly and silently, bringing their own lunches, starting the day with clean feet and assuming that Allah is o.k. with that... from what I could observe they all managed to survive the ordeal with their Islamic identity intact. Those, of course, were the days when common sense reigned.

You could have suggested to your friend to pour chlorox, or whatever the preferred toilet cleaner is, into the toilets, and leave them standing.

Yesterday, I read this thread and chuckled. Today, at work, I saw one of my Muslim colleagues unashamedly washing his bare feet in the washbasin. I wonder whether the day isn't far off when public restrooms will start providing stones for use.

angloirishslav: you are fully entitled to disagree with me over this issue but you are not entitled to reconfigure my motives for having suggested separate washrooms for Muslim students. My motives had absolutely nothing to do with naivity, liberalism or rigidity and most certainly not any kind of guilt.
Highly regarded female members of a university department were suffering discomfort on a daily basis from the ablution practices of a minority of female students. Since it would have been pointless professional suicide for any of these staff to have openly suggested that Muslim students be banned from performing ritual ablutions in female lavatories there was clearly a need for a solution.
Separate washrooms seemed to me and to this particular group of staff a very sensible solution but it was regarded as dynamite by those with the power to introduce it and the matter never received any discussion beyond that whispered once within the four walls of a very worried man's office.

These are only milestones to our gradual dhimmification and demise. When are we going to demand an end to this bigotry against non-Muslims?
