Escalation. From Reuters:
JAMMU, India (Reuters) - Indian and Pakistani troops exchanged small arms fire on Thursday after an attempt by anti-India militants to cross their heavily guarded border in the disputed territory of Kashmir, an Indian army spokesman said."The (firing) has been going on for quite some time now between the two sides after an infiltration bid was foiled," Lieutenant Colonel G.D. Goswami said.
He said one militant had been killed in the incident in Poonch district, 250 km northwest of Jammu.
Security has been beefed up in Kashmir and other parts of India ahead of Republic Day on Friday when India marks the day in 1950 it adopted its republican constitution with a military parade through the capital New Delhi.
Pakistan claims to be the biggest ally on the war on Terror.
The Govt ministers including President never loose an opportunity to point out its role in anti-Terrorism on every news channel in the world they can.
But still Hamid Karzai blames Pakistan and pakistan solely for harbouring the Taliban and of encouraging.
On the other side,India has also always said that ,the terrorists find refuge, training ,arms and finance in pakistan.
The USA intelligence chief also recently said that Taliban is finding safe haven in pakistan.
Almost in 99% of terrorist activities that take place in world, be it 9/11, Spain bombing ,Londong bombings, Mumbai bombing, Kasmir insurgency, Taliban insurgency the name of pakistani is always bound to pop up.
Is Pakistan helping the war on terror or is it helping the terrorists for war on the actual war on terror.
If the ISI is such a strong body as Musharraff claims, how is it possible everyone seems to pointing to the finger to pakistan. Isnt it obvious the ISI is helping the terrorists more and putting on an act of helping the world on the War on terror to get the billions in aid which in turn is donated by them to the terrorists.
If Iran-N korea-Syria is the axis of evil then Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are their Godfathers.
The pakistani troops deliberately open fire at times to engage the Indian soilders ,so that some terorrists can slip in during this round of firing ,when the Indians concentration is diverted.
...REUTERS FINDS A NEW WAY TO SAY MUSLIM....anti-India militants
Marine militants

Intelligence reports with the Mumbai police indicate that 500 Lashkar-e-Taiba (LeT) terrorists trained by the Pakistan Navy and the Inter Services Intelligence (ISI) will attack prime targets in the city on January 26. The terrorists will infiltrate the city posing as fishermen, gaining entry into India from Kori Creek in the Rann of Kutch.
Interrogation of a few militants arrested recently has revealed that the men, some of who also belong to militant outfits like the Pakistan-based Hizbul Mujahideen and the Jaesh-e-Muhammad, have undergone rigorous training for 12 to 18, conducted in three phases.
The Joint Commissioner of Police K P Raghuvanshi from the Anti Terrorism Squad (ATS) confirmed that an alert had been sounded against terrorist attacks on Republic Day.
Sea-borne attacks
According to the intelligence report (a copy of which is with MiD DAY), all the attacks will be sea-borne as the key targets are all accessible by sea. The report names six strategic targets.
Attacks on VVIPs possible
These include the Bhabha Atomic Research Centre, the offshore installations of the Oil and Natural Gas Corporation, the Governor’s bungalow at Malabar Hill, the US consulate at Breach Candy, naval detachments and the docks at Mumbai and JNPT.
The State Intelligence Department has also warned that some militant groups could attack VVIPs during the Republic Day function in Mumbai.
BARC
India’s premier nuclear research centre has received at least 24 threats so far. It is accessible by sea as it abuts Thane creek
PORTS
Indira, Prince’s and Victoria docks in the Mumbai harbour and JNPT in Nhava Sheva are the most important ports on the west coast. JNPT handles 65% of container traffic in India
US CONSULATE
On the hit list of al-Qaeda, a portion of this consulate at Breach Candy, abuts the sea
OIL RIGS
Some of the 150 platforms and oil rigs at Bombay High are unmanned, while security on others is lax. Thirty per cent of India’s crude oil production comes from these drilling platforms
Phases of training
Phase 1
Basic training where the terrorists are taught to swim.
Phase 2
Handling large boats, laying landmines in coastal zones and planting bombs under dams, bridges and ships.
Phase 3
The final phase relates to training in navigational techniques, rescue operations, surveillance methods, concealment of explosives and underwater attacks on enemy targets and coastal vessels.

Here we go again. It was only a matter of time before it started back up.
When I was living in England, I used to wake up every morning, turn on the teletext and see if a nuclear war had broke out between India and Pakistan.
This is very bad news.
As horrific as it would be, maybe India is one of our chances at ridding the world of a huge problem.
If India took out Pakistan, the world would be alot safer than it is today, the problem is that it would have to come at catstrophic casualties to gain this.
You know this, as many people have feared could be where the 1st nuclear bomb of WWIII could be dropped.
Either way if it comes to that, India has to come out on top or it would be catastrophic for the world.
Niv
Check out which way the winds will be blowing , that will tell you who will light off the first nuke!!
Is this Jihad?
One of these days, they're going to cut down to the middle and stop killing each other. That border problem is long over-due in solving.

One of these days Pakistan is going to go too far and get what it has long deserved. Too bad a lot of infidels will have to suffer the consequences for Pakistan's rotten behavior.
If Iran-N korea-Syria is the axis of evil then Pakistan and Saudi Arabia are their Godfathers.

Rajesh you are a beacon of knowledge and irrefutable logic in this forum.
I am with you. I hope one day India if noone else will take out Pakistan with a decisive blow.
They are a duplicitous cesspool and only sowdi arabia is even worse.
Maybe Israel will figure it out one day. At least the "Jooz" have a reputation for being smart. It is my hope they will one day combine their smarts with ruthless survivalist devil-may-come militancy and set their sights on the ROOT of the problem. Ryadh, Mecca and Medina.
Take out these three and the rest of islam will boil over where the World will finally be forced to defend itself.
The only way for us to survive is to obliterate islam.
Sorry to be so bleak but them be the logical facts.
The longer it takes the more lives it will cost.
I dont think there will be a major India-Pak war because the Pakistan army does not have the stomach to fight a major war. After the abject surrender of 93000 soldiers in the 1971 war (India should have tried and shot ALL of them for genocide), the Pakistan army doesnt have the guts to fight.
The safest option is to brainwash poor illiterates with Jihad idealogy, train them, give them a gun or bomb and put them in the line of fire. It is a wonder that these Jihadis who are dying for God knows what never see through this ruse of the Pakistan army.
After 17 years of terrorist activities, not one mm of Indian soil has been captured (and it will never be), because to capture anything or to "liberate" Kashmir requires a regular army and not rag-tag illiterates, half of whom get shot before the cross the border.
The Pakistan army guys enjoy themselves in their cantonments and whenever there is a remote chance of war, the Paki president or prime minister will run to the US begging for safety.
I say, If hostilities erupt between India and Pakistan (as it has it the past), no one should interfere. Let them duke it out..Pakistan has been kicking dirt in the faces of India and the Western world for a long time. Maybe the fools in Lahore will wake up one day to see Indian troops mopping up the streets in a typical method the Muslims understand. Indian troops will have no problem going to Northern Pakistan to route out Al-Zawahiri and his minions of death. Between India and Pakistan, I choose to side with India...
Last man standing wins...
Go India! Crush the Mo's!
Yes, I'm tempted to shout a loud "Jai Hind!" too.
But may the whole South Asian subcontinent find true and lasting peace at the feet of Jesus Christ, the true messiah.
Friends,
I would argue against this notion that the hindus are wimps when it comes to fighting Islamic imperialism. Like i mentioned in my introductory post, India has been fighting this menace for over a thousand years. And it has been successful in preventing the complete takeover of India even during the heyday of Islamic rule. And that is why they hate the hindus bitterly. We kept fighting. In the recent past (after independence) we have continued fighting without much help from the West. Isn't it ironical that America has only awakened to this problem since 911? All the while, it has been siding with Pakistan and Saudi and still continue to do so. And somehow the Western Analysts and thinkers and all the people who matter somehow give the impression that they don't want India to prevail. They always say things like 'We shudder a nuclear confrontation.., it is the world's most dangerous conflict, blah, blah,' without realizing that it is in their interests that India prevails. Britain, US, and other Western countries have always cold shouldered India when it comes to the question of taking a stand against Pakistan. And it has come to bite them badly as in the case of 911 and the London bombings. I still see they are not serious about tackling the issue of Pakistan and Saudi Arabia. So it is in the interests of all the countries who face this problem to confront it collectively.
My two cents on this Republic day and it is nice meeting you folks.
Dear Ishwar...
in the off-chance that when you and the Indian army take Lahore and roll in to start looking through the rubble for survivors and you find one, a middle-aged beauty named Naseem who used to run an office-furniture shop with her shor Anwer... would you please go easy on her? For sentimental reasons.
If you need some way of identifying her I think she looks like this:

India will not come out on top with theyurn present strategy.
If I remember, at the time of the Kargil war, a Pakistani general made clear that they were considering using their nukes. Their reasoning, such as it is, was that in a nuclear exchange, virtually the entire Hindu population of the world would be wiped out, but a mere 25% of the Muslim population of the sub-continent would be affected. In their eyes, this was a clear win. Besides they would be going to paradise anyway, while the Hindus would burn in hell.
For the MAD doctrine to work, and thus for peace to prevail, India has only one choice.
Ishwar and others: Hindu India has a very long martial tradition. After all, the Bhagavad Ghita is a song about two armies getting ready to slaughter each other, and the king of one force starts getting nervous over old times' sake, etc.
Bijrao: In the Bangladesh War, I understand that the Indian brass looked after their captured Pakistani colleagues because they were all classmates together at Sandhurst.

Yes you are right. Bhagavad Gita is a spiritual/religious treatise given to a warrior (Arjuna) of ancient India on the battle field by Lord Krishna who was another warrior, but was a non combatant in this war and participated as a Charioteer of Arjuna. Gita literally means song. But it is the main religious scripture of the Hindus and contains the essence of the Vedas.
Regarding the Bangladesh war, the Commander of the Pakistany army in what was then East Pakistan (and Bangladesh today) was Leutinent General AAK Naizi. When Naizi surrendered with his 90000 and odd soldiers, they were handed over to Leutinent General S K Sinha (who is the current Governer of Jammu and Kashmir). S.K Sinha and Naizi had served together as Captains under the British in Indonesia. Also S.K Sinha had served along with Gen Yahya Khan who was president of United Pakistan at the time of the Bangladesh war. Sinha was a caption while Yahya Khan was a major in 1946 under the British.
That was a decisive war. I don't think India has produced any leader (like Mrs. Indira Gandhi) who showed guts and tremendous spine in the course of that war in the face of US and international pressure.
What say you friends? Don't you agree?
Kepha, Indian forces did look after paki soldiers per Geneva convention or some other stupido int'l law. Pressure came from the countries whose conscience suddenly woke up after looking at heart-breaking stuff released by govt.of pakistan.
