Iran president tours Latin America bolstering anti-US ties

The Thug-In-Chief gathers allies from among the short-sighted, self-serving, and ignorant. They don't realize that they are ensuring only that the crocodile will eat them last. From Channelnewsasia, with thanks to DFS:

CARACAS : Iranian President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, who is locked in a tense standoff with the United States, has arrived in Venezuela for talks with his ideological "brother," President Hugo Chavez.

His regional swing will also include visits to Ecuador, Bolivia and Nicaragua, countries controlled by leftist governments critical of Washington.

In Caracas, the two leaders were expected to sign a series of new trade and economic cooperation agreements.

"Iran and Venezuela are two important allies on a global level, the two countries have important industrial and oil projects, which we will follow up in this trip," Ahmadinejad said before flying from Tehran, according to the state-run IRNA agency.

Ahmadinejad is begging for it!

I'd gladly pay a few bucks more for a gallon of gas to be rid of those hombres in South America.

"They don't realize that they are ensuring only that the crocodile will eat them last". ~ from Robert's post

Last night, on the Best of Nature (PBS), I saw what the crocodiles do to the gazelles --not a pretty sight-- all it takes is one jumping into the river; the rest of the herd quickly follows and the feeding frenzy begins.

Ahmadinejad and leftist Gov'ts sounds like a natural match!

Contrary to what some may believe, the United States is not dependent on oil from the Middle East. The US gets over 70 percent of its energy resources from elsewhere, and in reality is more dependent on Latin America than the Middle East. We could become very self sufficient with regard to our oil needs if it were not for the environmentalist whackos in congress who won't let us drill or refine! And, of course, Ahmadinejad is quite aware of all that. Maybe that would explain, at least in part, his little tour of Latin America?

For a good source on this see: "Sandstorm: Policy Failure in the Middle East," by Leon Hader.

If Iran fears its nuclear capability may be at risk from US attack, it sure would be good for them if some friendy Latin American countries agreed to allow Iran to put some of their R&D and production facilities on Latin American soil.

That is one hell of a scary thought aynrandgirl! hmmm

To the Fletcher Memorial Home for the both of them, says I. The sooner the better.

With Iran's continued incursion into our American Hempishpere, we are forced to take heed of the Monroe Doctrine, and end this war that is being wrought upon us.

And monkey man isn't being targeted for a hit because......?

I have been telling everyone from the President (yes of the US) to anyone who would listen that Iran's plan as an Islamocommunist state as a Russian Chicom proxy to open up an American front similar to Hezbollah and Hamas against Israel.
It will instead be Cubas and Venezellah setting up a nuclear front for attacks against America by terrorists "Islatino" for Islamic Latinos now being trained in Guyana and the southern Mexican Indian population.
Cuba is already the clearing house for fake passports with the Bekkah Valley in Lebanon printing high grade counterfeit dollars equal to North Korea as they have acquired the high grade printers that only established governments are supposed to have.
The 3 amigos of Boliva, Venezuela and Columbia are readying MS 13 Salvadoran type squads to integrate into the millions of Latinos here.
It is coming on all fronts from Cosco containers shipping into America guns, bombs and sleeper Chicom agents to the illegal Russians implanting all across America. (Just ask someone in Sacramento California what the Russians are like there who literally tell you they are RUSSIANS and NOT AMERICANS.)
The 3 amigos and Iran are being set up by Russia, China and Poppy Fidel to take the American retaliation, but America WAKE UP! These Islatinos with Islamocommunist agents take out several American cities, the agents start taking out infrastructure and all those 3rd world murderers and rapist mentality illegals Democrats are kissing up to for votes and Bush and industry for slave labor get to rioting like they always do and go on rampage....just what is going to be left for America?
A sitting President will have to try and decide does he fight Eurasia to save America while America burns to ashes inside or does he put down the insurrection inside America which will leave America conquerred from outside?
God help His American children, because this nation should have struck this 30 years ago when Carter gave away the Panama Canal. When this goes down it is going to have Americans fighting for their literal lives like Valley Forge.

Christianity is deeply rooted in Latin America. The churches are always full. Regardless of what some left-leaning leaders do or say, the odds of Islam ‘jumping the pond’ and taking hold are pretty slim. I think the numbers of Muslims in Latin America can still be measured in the thousands, maybe tens of thousands. ‘Mexican Justice’ is pretty effective against emerging threats to the power structure.

The War in Europe will be over long before Islam can go on offense in Latin America. Ahmedinejad is stroking his own ego. He should be encouraged.

He's down in Latin America doing the same thing a dog does when it walks up to your car in a parking lot. He's "marking" our tires (taunting the US.)

Let's hope he catches a fatal case of Tourista down there.

Contrary to what some may believe, the United States is not dependent on oil from the Middle East. The US gets over 70 percent of its energy resources from elsewhere... Posted by: Anti Islamian
The point here isn't the US dependence on foreign oil, bad as it is. The point is that the world's energy supply determines in a big way things like interest rates, etc i.e. it affects the cost of money. Almost as importantly, China and India have both grown in leaps and bounds over the last 10 years as far as energy consumption goes. As long as a major portion of that energy is oil, the 8 Islamic members of OPEC are going to have customers. And as long as that's the case, they will have money to fund Jihad, Dawa and a whole bunch of other Islamically oriented activities.

A good two step solution, not just in the US, but worldwide, would help a great deal:

  • Eliminate oil as a source of commercial energy (i.e. power generation), and allow it to be used only in transportation;
  • Aggressively research alternative fuels, and just as aggressively encourage the auto industry worldwide to engineer their cars to adapt them to the exclusion of oil. Once that happens, we can consume as much fuel as we want, without putting a red cent into the construction of the friendly neighborhood mosque.
As for Hugo Chavez, his hatred for the US makes him a likely candidate for conversion to Islam, if he ain't one already. Also, from the recent Nicaraguan elections, I thought that Danny Ortega had embraced Christianity - what a surprise!

Looks like the days where we'd need to engineer coups in Latin America are back.

Frankly, the 1973 military coup d'etat in Chile was an blessing for all to see, quantify and qualify. Our failure as a nation lies with people like Jimmy Carter, Dodd, Kennedy, Jack Murtha, etc, etc. We are always on the defensive, becouse of our enemy within our borders, and I dont mean the illegals. Ronald Reagan did a great thing by taking the war to the sandinistas, and to the Salvadorean Marxist of the FMLF. So its not like we don't know what to do, only that we need to do it better this time. We need to take the fight to them, before they can bring it to us. We need to fund and train the opposition to the bad guys, in their own countries, and assassinate the bad guys were they live. But knowing our recent history, going back to the democratic new deal, its not going to happen. We probably will pay a steep price for our lack of resolve as a nation.

Naw, I think you got it wrong Infidel Pride.
The 8 Islamic members of OPEC are always going to have oil customers. And that money funds just about everything they do. jihad is only a tiny tiny fraction of what their oil money finances. The illegal drug trade is more than enough to fund the jihadists. That money is also harder to track as a source.

Eliminate oil as a source of commercial energy (i.e. power generation), and allow it to be used only in transportation;

Aggressively research alternative fuels, and just as aggressively encourage the auto industry worldwide to engineer their cars to adapt them to the exclusion of oil. Once that happens, we can consume as much fuel as we want, without putting a red cent into the construction of the friendly neighborhood mosque.

Great! Let's do that! It will only take decades but I suppose it can be done.

As somebody else here once said, "where there is a jihad there is a way."

Remember, Iran & Syria are not funding formal armies to do the terrorist work. It only took a handfull of terrorists and some loose change to bring the towers in New York down.

They can keep their oil money legit and move more fully to the drug trade to meet their terrorism needs.

Off topic, but quickest way to get this story out to you all:

AP: Iran gets army gear in Pentagon sale By SHARON THEIMER, Associated Press Writer

WASHINGTON - The U.S. military has sold forbidden equipment at least a half-dozen times to middlemen for countries — including Iran and China — who exploited security flaws in the Defense Department's surplus auctions. The sales include fighter jet parts and missile components.

In one case, federal investigators said, the contraband made it to Iran, a country President Bush branded part of an "axis of evil."

In that instance, a Pakistani arms broker convicted of exporting U.S. missile parts to Iran resumed business after his release from prison. He purchased Chinook helicopter engine parts for Iran from a U.S. company that had bought them in a Pentagon surplus sale. Immigration and Customs Enforcement agents, speaking on condition of anonymity, say those parts made it to Iran.

The surplus sales can operate like a supermarket for arms dealers.

"Right Item, Right Time, Right Place, Right Price, Every Time. Best Value Solutions for America's Warfighters," the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service says on its Web site, calling itself "the place to obtain original U.S. Government surplus property."

Federal investigators are increasingly anxious that Iran is within easy reach of a top priority on its shopping list: parts for the precious fleet of F-14 "Tomcat" fighter jets the United States let Iran buy in the 1970s when it was an ally.

In one case, convicted middlemen for Iran bought Tomcat parts from the Defense Department's surplus division. Customs agents confiscated them and returned them to the Pentagon, which sold them again — customs evidence tags still attached — to another buyer, a suspected broker for Iran.

That incident appalled even an expert on weaknesses in Pentagon surplus security controls.

"That would be evidence of a significant breakdown, in my view, in controls and processes," said Greg Kutz, the Government Accountability Office's head of special investigations. "It shouldn't happen the first time, let alone the second time."

A Defense Department official, Fred Baillie, said his agency followed procedures.

"The fact that those individuals chose to violate the law and the fact that the customs people caught them really indicates that the process is working," said Baillie, the Defense Logistics Agency's executive director of distribution. "Customs is supposed to check all exports to make sure that all the appropriate certifications and licenses had been granted."

The Pentagon recently retired its Tomcats and is shipping tens of thousands of spare parts to its surplus office — the Defense Reutilization and Marketing Service — where they could be sold in public auctions. Iran is the only other country flying F-14s.

"It stands to reason Iran will be even more aggressive in seeking F-14 parts," said Stephen Bogni, head of Immigration and Customs Enforcement's arms export investigations. Iran can only produce about 15 percent of the parts itself, he said.

Sensitive military surplus items are supposed to be demilitarized or "de-milled" — rendered useless for military purposes — or, if auctioned, sold only to buyers who promise to obey U.S. arms embargoes, export controls and other laws.

The GAO, the investigative arm of Congress, found it alarmingly easy to acquire sensitive surplus. Last year, its agents bought $1.1 million worth — including rocket launchers, body armor and surveillance antennas — by driving onto a base and posing as defense contractors.

"They helped us load our van," Kutz said. Investigators used a fake identity to access a surplus Web site operated by a Pentagon contractor and bought still more, including a dozen microcircuits used on F-14 fighters.

The undercover buyers received phone calls from the Defense Department asking why they had no Social Security number or credit history, but they deflected the questions by presenting a phony utility bill and claiming to be an identity theft victim.

The Pentagon's public surplus sales took in $57 million in fiscal 2005. The agency also moves extra supplies around within the government and gives surplus military gear such as weapons, armored personnel carriers and aircraft to state and local law enforcement.

Investigators have found the Pentagon's inventory and sales controls rife with errors. They say the sales are closely watched by friends and foes of the United States.

Among cases in which U.S. military technology made its way from surplus auctions to brokers for Iran, China and others:

_Items seized in December 2000 at a Bakersfield, Calif., warehouse that belonged to Multicore, described by U.S. prosecutors as a front company for Iran. Among the weaponry it acquired were fighter jet and missile components, including F-14 parts from Pentagon surplus sales, customs agents said. The surplus purchases were returned after two Multicore officers were sentenced to prison for weapons export violations. London-based Multicore is now out of business, but customs continues to investigate whether U.S. companies sold military equipment to it illegally.

In 2005, customs agents came upon the same surplus F-14 parts with the evidence labels still attached while investigating a different company suspected of serving as an Iranian front. They seized the items again. They declined to provide details because the investigation is ongoing.

_Arif Ali Durrani, a Pakistani, was convicted last year in California in the illegal export of weapons components to the United Arab Emirates, Malaysia and Belgium in 2004 and 2005 and sentenced to just over 12 years in prison. Customs investigators say the items included Chinook helicopter engine parts for Iran that he bought from a U.S. company that acquired them from a Pentagon surplus sale, and that those parts made it to Iran via Malaysia. Durrani is appealing his conviction.

An accomplice, former Naval intelligence officer George Budenz, pleaded guilty and was sentenced in July to a year in prison. Durrani's prison term is his second; he was convicted in 1987 of illegally exporting U.S. missile parts to Iran.

_State Metal Industries, a Camden, N.J., company convicted in June of violating export laws over a shipment of AIM-7 Sparrow missile guidance parts it bought from Pentagon surplus in 2003 and sold to an entity partly owned by the Chinese government. The company pleaded guilty to an export violation, was fined $250,000 and placed on probation for three years. Customs and Border Protection inspectors seized the parts — nearly 200 pieces of the guidance system for the Sparrow missile system — while inspecting cargo at a New Jersey port.

"Our mistake was selling it for export," said William Robertson, State Metal's attorney. He said the company knew the material was going to China but didn't know the Chinese government partially owned the buyer.

_In October, Ronald Wiseman, a longtime Pentagon surplus employee in the Middle East, pleaded guilty and was sentenced to 18 months in prison for stealing surplus military Humvees and selling them to a customer in Saudi Arabia from 1999 to 2002. An accomplice, fellow surplus employee Gayden Woodson, will be sentenced this month.

The Humvees were equipped for combat zones and some weren't recovered, Assistant U.S. Attorney Laura Ingersoll said.

_A California company, All Ports, shipped hundreds of containers of U.S. military technology to China between 1994 and 1999, much of it acquired in Pentagon surplus sales, court documents show. Customs agents discovered the sales in May 1999 when All Ports tried to ship to China components for guided missiles, bombs, the B-1 bomber and underwater mines. The company and its owners were convicted in 2000; an appeals court upheld the conviction in 2002.

Rep. Christopher Shays (news, bio, voting record), R-Conn., called the cases "a huge breakdown, an absolute, huge breakdown."

"The military should not sell or give away any sensitive military equipment. If we no longer need it, it needs to be destroyed — totally destroyed," said Shays, until this month the chairman of a House panel on national security. "The Department of Defense should not be supplying sensitive military equipment to our adversaries, our enemies, terrorists."

It's no secret to defense experts that valuable technology can be found amid surplus scrap.

On a visit to a Defense Department surplus site about five years ago, defense consultant Randall Sweeney literally stumbled upon some items that clearly shouldn't have been up for sale.

"I was walking through a pile of supposedly de-milled electrical items and found a heat-seeking missile warhead intact," Sweeney said, declining to identify the surplus location for security reasons. "I carried it over and showed them. I said, 'This shouldn't be in here.'"

Sweeney, president of Defense and Aerospace International in West Palm Beach, Fla., sees human error as a big problem. Surplus items are numbered, and an error of a single digit can make sensitive technology improperly available and knowledgeable buyers could easily spot a valuable item, he said. "I'm not the only sophisticated eye in the world," he said.

Baillie said the Pentagon is working to tighten security. Steps include setting up property centers to better identify surplus parts and employing people skilled at spotting sensitive items. If there is uncertainty about whether an item is safe, he said, it is destroyed.

Of the 76,000 parts for the F-14, 60 percent are "general hardware" such as nuts and bolts and can be sold to the public without restriction, Baillie said. About 10,000 are unique to Tomcats and will be destroyed, he said.

An additional 23,000 parts are valuable for military and commercial use and are being studied to see whether it's safe to sell them, Baillie said.

Asked why the Pentagon would sell any F-14 parts, given their value to Iran, Baillie said: "Our first priority truly is national security, and we take that very seriously. However, we have to balance that with our other requirement to be good stewards of the taxpayers' money."

Kutz, the government investigator, said surplus F-14 parts shouldn't be sold. He believes Iran already has Tomcat parts from Pentagon surplus sales: "The key now is, going forward, to shut that down and not let it happen again."

THE IRANIAN President probably threated to have masses of Muslim immigrants flood Venezuela if they refused to cooperate.....

It would be interesting to know how many people were in Ama-nut's party when he arrived and how many will be returning to Iran.
Maybe a few left in these despotic countires for educational purposes?
This fund they are creating? To get the immigrant trade over our borders moving a little more efficiently?

Marxist birds of a feather flock together!.....And, like Bob says, the ignorant masses will hail these two radicals as heros.....That is until they do what Stalin did, and send them to their versions of the gulags!.....

Say No to Bananas for Oil!

"The 8 Islamic members of OPEC are always going to have oil customers"

No, they are not. You can arrive at this conclusion but you will have to trawl around a bit on the net.

"Great! Let's do that! It will only take decades but I suppose it can be done."

Not decades, just years. Electric and hybrid cars are here to stay, and there are other, more exciting technologies that will power our future.

Boycott CITGO!

I wonder how many liberals and leftists appreciate the fact that their latest hollow hero, Chavez, is snuggling up to a man who executes women for defending themselves against rape, denies the holocaust and embraces neo-Nazi David Duke. When someone starts praising the regime of the "anti imperialist, socialist" Chavez, just mention the Ahmidenijad-Duke-Chavez alliance.

Hugo Chavez is becoming a very great threat to the United States. He can no longer be written off as simply a clown or a buffoon (though he is). His goal, like that of Iran, has clearly become to destroy the United States and massacre our people. It is time that our government began to take serious steps, either military or covert, to knock his regime out of power. We would have our allies in Venezuela for this. My guess is he is gradually destroying the Venezuelan economy with more and more socialism and his enemies are terrified of where he he taking the country and becoming more and more numerous. Our intelligence forces should make contact with them and begin quietly arranging for a Pinochet-style coup within the Venezuelan army, government, and economic circles. As for Hugo himself, he is vulnerable over water. His plane could be quietly intercepted by F-117 stealth fighters Yammamoto style and forced down over the deep ocean. With no wreckage, The U.S. could invent any cover story it wanted and still have plausible deniability. Once he is gone, a new leadership could enter Caracas and take control of the government. Problem solved. If anybody out there thinks this a bad idea, let me ask you this and I am speaking as a patriot who loves his America: This evil man absoultely hates us and has sworn to destroy our country and kill us. Should we wait until after he or his Al-Queda allies nuke us from Venezuela and then act to remove him (assuming any of us are still alive)?

Lame Cherry nails it down pretty good. We need to make sure these Latin American countries understand they won't be worth invading, will just tactical neutered (backslapped to teh stone age) if they dare take military action against us, then return it to jungle for sake of the endangered animal species. As for using Central America as a strike base, keep in mind when Carter turned the Panama Canal over it got leased to China through their state owned port authority, oddly less sinister to the USA than the UAE ports deal, in fact none other than Pelosi got them dock space at Long Beach. This means they don't need long range missiles, in fact the longer a missile travels the better chances it can be shot down. We have more danger from a boat in international waters, some creaky old freighter with heavily sheilded payload, and they could be tied up at a Chinese controlled port right now for all we know. By odd coincidence when they claim China ruled the Pacific and Indian Oceans just before Columbus's voyage, and supposedly "discovered" our West Coast, they relied on muslim crews. We need to protect our gulf coast. And we need more offshore oil rigs, screw the NIMBYs, so we don't have to import any oil. I do believe a government run rival oil company like the REA/TVA agencies to tap, refine and distribute oil on federal lands, is the awnswer to preventing the daily price gouging game, not to eliminate competition, but to keep them a little more honest, becaus eit is VITAL to our economy and national security. And oddly, in old Nature and Geographic magazines, I see how we were set up for the "crisis" of the late 1970's. Nixon was telling us we were facing an energy crunch and advocated ending dependency on foreign oil, but every hydropower, oil shale, oil, uranium ore or coal exploration and developement, or other alternative energy scheme was immediately protested by NIMBYs and enviromentalists and shut down by Carter, and then the arabs profited handsomely. What a coincidence. Who wants to bet we get another Carter in office, in sudddenly we will face another "energy crisis" and gas lines again?

My guess is he is gradually destroying the Venezuelan economy with more and more socialism and his enemies are terrified of where he he taking the country and becoming more and more numerous.

Let's see...at 84% unemployment, I think it's a safe bet...So much for returning oil profits to the oppressed!.....and the Venezuelan suckers that voted for this moron bought it...Hook, line and sinker.....Here's hoping for a Grenada style invasion at some point...Probably with the next administration....Bush is in it up to his ass enough as it is.....

Let's see...at 84% unemployment, I think it's a safe bet...
Posted by: Oiznop at January 16, 2007 12:00 PM

84% unemployment?! Geeez, I knew it was bad but I had no idea it was that bad. While I'm sorry for all the unemployed Venezuelan people suffering under that piece of s--t, it is great news for us! Maybe if things keep going that way, we won't have to act at all. His own generals might just march him out and stand him up against a wall....

Maybe someone should inform the Venezuelian Prez. to review countries where Muslims take over. The Prez is looking at 84% unemployment?? try zero non muslim population and 100% unemployment for those whom are not killed by the religious police.
Muslims are very good at just destroying all they overcome...Hey Prez..it is a fact...

Chavez at swearing in ceremony: Socialism or death.

Okay.

Most likely the Chinese, French, and Russians have their fingers in this pot too.

If Ahmadinejad wasn't getting support from all over Eurasia even he probably wouldn't be THIS bald-faced.

There has been a global linkage between Islam and Communism over the past three decades. What we see in Latin America today is merely the tip of the iceberg. Reagan had it WRONG--Communism and the Cold War did not end with the razing of the Berlin Wall.

And most likely the Middle East and China moved into this hemisphere years before this. R and D facitilited and all.

I really feel sorry for Hugo Chavez and company.
They are digging their own grave.
They are just ensuring that the crocidile eats them last.
The ultimate goal of Islamic world is to spread Islam everywhere and throw back the world to the 7th century.
The Islamic world will just slaughter the Latin americans after their goal is achieved ( IF IT is achieved) or ask them to convert to Islam. That is their ideology. They are not tolerant or secular like all other religions of the world.
Foir gods sake they just seem to be finding reasons to spread jihad and indulge in violence. And eventually if they got no one to kill, the just kill amongst themselves.

For all talk of smartness and righteousness.Mr Hugo Chavez has not really identified who the DEVIL is in in reality. He has befreinded the Devil and surely as history goes the devil will use him and then gobble him.

Rajesh-Singh: I have read statements to the effect that Venezuela is ALREADY an Islamic-majority state!

Latin America may already have reached the state you fear.

Chavez is already reminiscent of Napolean Bonaparte. However, we'll see.

Listen please! Chavez is an idiot power hungry DEVIL! HE is brain washing poor Venezuelans with welfare and false promises. As for the other devil Iranian pres. he will never find true allies in Latin America, thanks to that little religion called CHRISTIANITY, brought hundreds of years ago will prevent any real friendship. As the own Ayatollah wanna be said Latin America is nothing but kaffurs! (non believers) As for the superstition that Muslim faith will spread through out Latin America, I think it has very slim chance of occurring. The Latin Americans have evolved to much as a people. In fact it is so similar to Americans views that no decent Hispanic will ever consider to degrade into such a oppressing religion. Just as the fore father of Latin Americans the Spanish did not SUBMIT to that stupid religion during the Moorish invasion for hundreds of years neither will the Faithful Latin Americans. VIVA LA VIRGIN de Guadalupe!!!!
