In "Somalia, Reclaim Your True Religion" in the Washington Post blog, Bashir Goth says "good riddance" to the Islamic Courts, and calls upon Somalis to recover their cheerfully syncretistic and relaxed cultural Islam -- which is hardly at all jihad-oriented, although it still makes life very difficult for women and preaches contempt and hatred for non-Muslims, as Ayaan Hirsi Ali's forthcoming memoir, Infidel, makes clear.
Goth concludes:

Time to read the Quran with piety and not with politics; time to perform Dhikr in the Sufi Qadiriya style; time to dance in weddings and listen to the music of our late melody queen Magool, which the Islamists wanted burn. Bashir Goth's piece did not originate with the WaPo; it initially appeared in Awdalnews on December 29, and has been widely reprinted. And it turns out that the Post cut out a bit of the last part of the article. Here it is from the Australian e-journal On Line Opinion, with the piece missing from the Post in bold:

The Post joins the Khaleej Times of the UAE in not wanting to offend the delicate feelings of Arab jihadists. It's a pity that they chose to excise this passage, since it illustrates an important reality: many non-Arab Muslims resent and despise Arabs, and practice a cultural Islam shorn of some (but not all) of the features that are at variance with Western concepts of human rights and human dignity. This fact could be useful to those who are trying to defend us against the global jihad, if they chose to take notice of it.
Incidentally, a commenter at the Post site, "sheikhabdullah," immediately expressed his disapproval on the grounds of Islamic purity, as Islamic hardliners always do:

You are calling for Sufism, which has deviated from the path of true Islam. Therefore, you are calling to "kufr", disbelief. "Wahhaabi" Islam is true, and Sufis is bid'ah [innovation]. Note that this person isn't upset over spreading any LIES, but rather that it's offensive "NEWS." I'd go further to call it "offensive TRUTH" that this person is upset about. Naturally, M.U. does not even attempt to site where this news is "racist."
Here is a suggestion for "Unity":
If you are going to level an accusation upon someone, you have to give an example of what it is in order to form a case against them. If it is "racist news" that is being spread, then you need to explain why or how this news is "racist."
Failure to do so only lowers you in our eyes. Failure to do so, in our eyes, presents you as someone who cannot foment an argument, but rather as someone crying for pity. It is pathetic when we see this sort of nonsense.
There are many in the Infidel camp who will think that sufism is better than wahabism, and therefore must be encouraged. It is not so. sufism differs from wahabism in some things, it allows music for one. Also, sufis do not disfigure the face of the dead prior to burial. wahabi custom is to drop a rock destroying the facial features. They cave in the face before filling up the grave. wahabis graves do not have headstones, no sign of a man must exist post death, and no placing of flowers at the death anniversary. sufism does allow the building of headstones, infact some even build mausoleums, and observe the death anniversary of a person. The wahabis accuse the sufis of not following the quran to the letter and often, in muslim infested areas, we hear of a fight between the two. Very like the shia - sunni. As far as infidels are concerned, yes, they are somewhat better than the wahabis because they have music and therefore their thought processes are somewhat better than those of a wahabi. But their history is as bloody as that of the wahabis.

First, do not attempt to speak on my behalf.
Second, read the definition of race, and face the facts that a common devotion to that death-cult of Islam does not constitute a race. A wild pack of uneducated, unenlightened derelicts maybe, but a race?....never.

Impossible. Islam is more politics with a religious veneer than a religion with a political veneer. One might as well ask for anti-Semitism to be removed from Nazism in order for one to be a good Nazi.
Sufism is very dangerous because it lends some legitimacy to Islam. People like to quote sufis and give the impression that this is true islam. Westreners hear this and are none the wiser and think that this is what the peaceful majority of Muslims believe, excluding the tiny minority of "whahhbis." Sufism in most cases is totally opposed to Islam and organized religion. Rumis works have almost nothing in them that could be considered Islam. I always laugh when people like Akbar Ahmed use him as an example. Never qualifying the fact that he would be executed as a heretic. More mainstream Sufis like Ghazalli would have almost no problems with Whabbism.
All the hadiths that sufis quote dont exist in the canonical collections. For examples, I dont know how many times I've heard the one about the " lesser and greater jihad. It goes something like we have come back from the lesser jihad {combat}, but still face the greater jihad aginst our lower selfs {jihad al nafs}. It doesn't exist. It was fabricated by sufis to give islam some true spirituality, which it lacks. Next time a muslim quotes it have them give you a refernce. I know it is dief { fake or weak}. It is a trojan horse. Almost every hadith in Gazahlli's classic on religous sciences dont exist in the canonical hadith collections.
Sufism was a reaction to the harsh legalism of true Islam. It was a search for true spirtuality bringing in elements from other religions of conquered peoples. All its metaphysics, practices, and teachings are bidah {inovations} and have nothing to do with real islam. So people need to quite using it as an example. Real islam is the Koran and Sunnah. That dangerous duo.
