In this update on this story, the cabbie's name is given as Ibrahim Sheikhamed; in earlier reports, and therefore also in an article and a videoblog that I put together Monday and which should both appear today, it is given as Ibrahim Ahmed.
Anyway, the cab appears to have been stolen, too.

His case is supposed to be reviewed by a judge, but the district attorney's office told FOX News the hearing likely will be continued to another date.
Sheikhamed is also being charged with theft, since the license plate on his cab was listed as stolen.
Sheikhamed, a 37-year-old Sunni Muslim from Somalia, tried to run over two men near Vanderbilt University early Sunday morning after getting into an argument over religion, police said. One of the fares was Protestant, while the other was Catholic.
Ahmed picked up the two fares — two men visiting Nashville from Ohio — near the Vanderbilt campus, according to the incident report. After the argument, Ahmed allegedly tried to run his cab over the two men; he struck one of them, according to the incident report.
One of the students, identified as Jeremy Invus, was taken to Vanderbilt University Medical Center with critical injuries. The other passenger, Andrew Nelson, avoided the cab.
It was first believed that Sheikhamed worked for United Cab Co., but owner Roderick Brown told FOX News on Tuesday that he was not an employee and was fired last year after a high-speed chase with Nashville police.
Brown thinks Sheikhamed, who teaches English as a second language next door, took the keys to the cab, stole the vehicle, put stolen tags on it, and was pocketing the fares for an unknown period of time.
My hubby is in the US right now and I have told him NOT to speak to any cabbies about religion!

Taxis down in OZ are pretty bad - in Western Australia women have been raped, maybe more incidents than they are reporting.
I use a private service, both in the US and OZ, if I have to.

Would it be possible to mark cabs as "Moslem-free?"
I mean not for ideological or Gd-frbid "racial" reasons, but for preserving the limbs and life of potential passengers. For instance, were one--of these potential passengers--have a slight scent, or carrying an unopened bottle, of alcohol--it is impossible to predict how the driver of a not "Moslem-free" cab would react.
If a cab is not marked "Moslem-free" and a passenger or two were not to heed that warning and engage in ideological debate with the cab driver he or they would be taking their lives into their own hands. I mean, they had been warned.

There are "Silver Service" cab companies who make a special effort to maintain a high standard of customer service. Clearly there will be an increasing demand for this sort of "Branding" in taxis as the general level of service degenerates under the assault of the Surley Pakistani Cab Driver, so prevalent in Melbourne.
The same principle - where you know you will get a consistent quality of product - has seen McDonalds flourish. Why not with cabs also?

Fired after a high-speed chase with Nashville police? And his licensed to drive period was not revoked? And who would insure him?

This makes no sense. You can't just steal any old vehicle and operate it as a cab. It needs a meter, radio dispatch and light on top. This guy was no doubt operating under the radar in all sorts of ways, but I very much doubt as a solo act.
First of all I should have read farther before posting about the religion, I still think it's underreported.

The Omega man, yesterday something on Fox News as they were discusing this story about the JetBlue fiasco and the fact that it happened on Valentines Day got me thinking.
They were blaming it on lack of communication and others problems with the reservations and ticketing ground crew. While it's unlikely the are Muslims in the cockpit, what about these other areas?
I haven't flown since 9/11, mostly because only an argument with my ex-husband kept me from being on the flight that blew up over Locabee, Scotland.
Add in 9/11 and there really isn't anywhere I want to go that badly.

I would bet that if you do some investigating of this cab co. you will find islamist activity everywhere. If you get into one of these so called stolen cabs (ghost cabs) you could disappear forever and the police would never figure out what happened to you. In addition, a warning to all women, don’t get in their vehicle, you know they are unable to control themselves in the presence of uncovered meat. Cabs are also great for transporting guns/drugs/anthrax you name it. Yep, miira is right, do not interact in any way with these islamists, and make no mistake 9 1/2 out of 10 are islamists so it’s next to impossible to come across a non islamist among them.
I think Ibn Sunayna is a good example of what doing business with the mussulman will get you.

A fact to remember: In the US, it is illegal for a business to discriminate but not for a customer to discriminate. The cabbie cannot legally refuse a fare because of religion but you can refuse to buy the service for whatever reason you want, including the cabbie's religion.
So ask the cab driver what his religion is. If he is Christian, Jewish, Sikh, or Hindu, get in and ride. If he says he is Muslim, tell him you will wait for a kaffir driver. It's your money and you can spend it on whomever you want. If these Muslim drivers can't find customers, the cab companies won't hire them anymore. Money talks!
Good plan Provo, but even that wouldn't safeguard anyone, because all he has to do is lie and say that he ISN'T a Muslim. Aren't radical Muslim's instructed to lie if they need to? And if some guy wants to harm you, then he will lie to accomplish that end.

Did a phone call come in that instructed the censor from someone else?

If you want to avoid Muslim cab drivers, remember that not all will be conspicuously identifiable as Muslim. Some may only vaguely look like Geraldo Rivera, or Wilmer Valderrama, or Tony Shalhoub, for example. So the best way to tell is, before you get in, lean into the open window (or if it's closed, open the door and lean in but don't actually get in) and say:
"Assalaam Alaikum" (= "Peace be upon you")
A Muslim is obliged to respond to this Muslim greeting and if the cab driver says something like
"Wa 'Alaikum" (= and upon you too),
you will know he's a Muslim, and at that point, just walk away and look for another cab.
