Israel should have turned the place into a synogogue long ago as a spoil of war. Had they done so, things certainly wouldn't have been any worse in the last 40 years.

A good friend of ours leads tour groups to Israel and she used to have great access to the Temple Mount. One time, a couple of years ago, she and her group were standing close to the Al-Aska Mosque and great insults were shouted down along with a hand written paper saying death to Christians and Jews, etc. Sadly, after that the Israeli Police could no longer allow her that access.

The religion of peace is whipping up the masses once again (this incitement, aka as "prayers", has been going on for a while now), I believe one of the objectives is political -- that is, to serve as a means to unify the Pals (they're hoping to whip up another "intifada" and thus stop the civil war in Gaza.)

The ramp which was damaged back in 2004 due to an earthquake is far, far away from the mosque, no where near the mosque. but, of course, facts have no meaning for followers of the religion of "peace."

"Muslim worshippers", "prayers", this really is ignorance, isn't it? A little like the "students" that took our embassy hostage in Iran.

Yep, just like the hagia sophia, this mosque was built over another religions extremely holy place, this time for the Jewish people and not the Christians - beit hamikdash, where it was said that the two tablets of stone on which the Ten Commandments were engraved on was stored - the holy of the holiest, and that god himself would reside from time to time. and they cry. again. such a suprise.

but here again, my stupid government gave the full authority of the area to the Muslim wakf - the non-Israeli Muslim authority for Muslim holy places, and Jewish people actually can't go there - only Muslim, as if it's not in Israel. That's right, i can't even get close to that place, even though it was THE holiest place to my religion.

They did so much work there, and it was proven that they destroyed so many evidences of this being beit hamikdash – even there is no dispute over that, and they don't deny that it was.

It could be worse. When Friday Prayers are let out in Bangladesh, whipped-up "worshippers" express their frenzied devotion by beating to death passing Hindus. You can see some of the scenes on-line, if you care to. And no doubt were there not an Israel and an Israeli police force to prevent it, they would do it to Jews after Jumaa Prayers on the Temple Mount.

Of course the whole Muslim outrage is a crock, one more excuse to whip up fanatical frenzy. The repairs to the staircase which are made necessary by damage that a freak snowstorm caused several years ago, damage that can not be left unrepaired much longer, is a full 200 feet from the Temple Mount.

Will this be pointed out in the world's press or on television? No. It won't. We will see scenes of Muslims who claim to be aggrieved. We will see scenes of Israeli police and tear gas on the Temple Mount. You get the picture, the dreary picture.

Will there be any interviews with archaeologists around the world -- and of course in Israel -- about the real damage being done, entirely by Muslim Arabs, as they throw out hundreds and hundreds of tons of earth, and together with that earth all kinds of artifacts, Jewish, and Muslim, and then dump it, because they wish to remove whatever traces they can of the Jewish past to be found on or under Temple Mount, and cannot stop to pluck out, and have no need to pluck out, Muslim artifacts because their claim is based on a single line in the Qur'an, about where the fabulous Night Journey ("miraj") of Muhammad took place (up and down from earth to seventh heaven, in a mere twenty-four hours), that fateful line about the "farthest mosque" (al-masjid al-aqsa") that was subsequently, after some debate, fixed upon Jerusalem by the Omayyad caliph sitting in Damascus, who chose to stake a claim to the city holy to Jews and Christians, just as Muslims had appropriated, and distorted, so much of the stories and figures in the prior monotheisms, Judaism and Christianity.

Yet not even the quran is authentic as it is heavily inspired by Christian teachings, especially Arianism (the unity of god) and some sort of preislamic moon god religion. Sort of a patchwork which up to date is incoherent and provides its readers often enough with contradictions.
The only way to prove islam's authenticity is to destroy the originals that predated it. As some authors here point out- once Europe becomes muslim, the automobile, airplane etc - all will probably be attributed to the glory of islam. And later generations will probably buy it as well.

The only holy sites inspired by the koran are mecca and medina.

The place is known of Temple Mount because it actually is a mountain: Mount Moriah where Abraham is supposed to have almost sacrificed Isaac.

When turned into a temple, walls were built all around and a large esplanade was built. Only the top of the mountain was left sticking out. This is the site of the holiest temple of Judaism.

When the muslims came they found the temple area resembled a rubbish dump. The destruction under Titus in AD 70 had left little, and the christianized Romans (Byzantines) had no great affection for the Temple Remains. The Dung gate is where the rubbish came through before finding its way to the mount.

The arrival of the muslims in the 8th century changed all this. They found that the Temple Mount was very similar to Mecca and believed that it would make a good substitute while they were so far from their homes. After all, in Mecca they worship a Rock, and there was a rock on the Temple Mount.

The muslims built the Dome of the Rock was built over the rock but they added another building: the Al Aksa Mosque. The Mosque was built at the southern end of the esplanade in order for the muslims to worship facing south towards Mecca in order not pray towards the rock, which was of course an infidel place of worship.

So, by muslim logic, if you can forgive the oxyoron, the Dome of the Rock is not muslim at all since they especially wished their followers to pray in the opposite direction.

In 1967, for the first time in 1900 years, the Jews held the Temple Mount for a few hours before returning it to the muslims.

May I, a humble(!) archaeologist be allowed to put this particular story into some sort of scientific context. As many of you who read and post here will know I claim to be an archaeologist and to post here, occasionally (and, I hope, not too boringly), on the subject as it nearly and most closely touches upon the prime purpose of this site. So, I wish to do so again and about this story.

As I know it, the Antiquities Authority has, by law, to carry out this dig. The new bridge, which is what all this fuss is about, is simply a pedestrian walkway replacing the stone ramp leading up to the Mughrabi Gate which collapsed, in part, in a storm about three years ago and was found to be unsafe by the city civil engineers - and was obviously unsafe to the eyes of anyone who looked at it.

Before any new work can be undertaken within the walls of Jerusalem (actually, in a much wider area than that but the details need not concern us here) we archaeologists are given a period of time under Israeli law and, before the War, under Jordanian law, variable, to undertake whatever dig we deem to be appropriate. This has always been the case - for many, many decades - and has never before provoked moslems to utter such outrageous calumnies about us as they are doing at the moment.

The actual dig is taking place well outside the historic foundation walls of the mosk and is, indeed, some 450 yards, at least, from the outermost foundations of the mosk in question. Due to recent improvement works to the foundations of the mosk - during which moslems removed, without authority either from the Israeli government or from the King of Jordan, hundreds and hundreds of lorry loads of material from the Temple Mount (thereby irretrievably damaging the archaeology of the site), the works of we archaeologists could not, even if we wanted them to, affect, in the slightest, the mosk.

The visible, and invisible underground foundations, of the retaining foundation walls of the Temple Mount next to the faulty walkway are also in no danger since we know, with an absolute certainty, that they are so thick and so well built - despite being some several thousands of years old - that there is no possibility that we can damage them during this current excavation. In other words, there is no possibility whatsoever of any type of cascade failure which could imperil the existence of any structure atop the Temple Mount including the illegally built Al Aksa mosk.

It is so difficult for an archaeologist to get a licence to join an excavation team working anywhere near the Temple Mount that I can state, with absolute certainty, that all of the people working on this dig are bound to be amongst the best in the world and that they will have the backing of, and the expert advice from, some of the world's foremost civil and materials engineers as employed, or commissioned, by the governments of Israel and, equally as importantly in this context, Jordan.

Further, under Israeli law, the Antiquities Authority is required to carry out a salvage excavation before any construction at this site. Yuval Baruch, the authority's chief archeologist for Jerusalem, has stated that the dig is at least 75 yards from the foundation walls of the Temple Mount - and I have been, as part of a student team (and I was deeply honoured to have been chosen), to the site and I can assure you that what Yuval Baruch has said is true.

I know that I am a young and relatively inexperienced archaeologist - that I am at the very beginning of my career - but I have to say to you that in my opinion the idea that there is any risk whatsoever to the Al Aksa mosk is just sheer and utter fantasy - a rampant, stupid and fantastical story put about by the deranged and lunatic minds of mohammedanism for their own political gain.

What's more Yuval Baruch has said on Israel Radio (as I understand it) that:
"We invite everyone to come see." and "We are working under the open sky and have nothing to hide."

So, what on Earth (or in the earth, if you prefer a bad pun) is going on here. Well, let's start with a quotation from the Iraeli Prime Minister's Office: "The construction of the bridge, located in its entirety outside the Temple Mount, has no impact on the Mount itself, and certainly poses no danger to it."

Here, here: and any archaeologist worth his salt knows that this is true.

Then, let's remind ourselves of Ariel Sharon's visit to the Temple Mount in 2000 which was used to set off the so-called second intifada. These wretched moslems, in their ignorance and barbarity, evidently also see some mileage in a re-run of the violent clashes of 1996. (1996 was the year in which a second exit to the Western Wall tunnel was opened and, apparently (according to the damned, barbarian moslems), this sensible expansion of crush area facilities was also some sort of clandestine attempt to damage moslem interests on the Temple Mount as was the archaeological dig which preceded these eminently sensible civil works and which resulted in the murder of at least three archaeologists by the illiterate, barbarian moslems.)

Palestinians are falsely claiming that this entire project to replace the badly damaged and faulty ramp with a new bridge is a clandestine Israeli plot to dig under, and cause damage to, the Al-Aksa mosk. This is sheer, absolute paranoia - only the most deranged and over-active of minds could make such an assumption or believe that such a thing is possible.

Obviously, Sheikh Raed Salah, and the other Palestinian leaders, are merely attempting to exploit this issue for their own nefarious purposes, probably in an attempt to redirect so-called Palestinian anger against Israel in the midst of a bloody internal conflict and thereby to diffuse the situation in the Gaza strip.

The problem is, from my point of view, that, once more, innocent archaeologists, both Israeli and Jordanian, will be the targets of these fanatical moslems - the majority of the uncivilised moslem horde, in my experience, are uniquely antipathetical towards archaeologists (especially those who profess to be moslem) and archaeologists routinely lose their lives at the hands of barbarian moslems in all corners of the world - and the important work going on upon, and around, the Temple Mount (and, indeed, throughout Jerusalem) will, once more, be brought to halt by the ignorant, scarcely educated, barbaric moslem sheiks and politicians who, for all the reasons that we who post here already know, resist any sort of rational learning or enlightenment, for their minds are closed to knowledge and exploration of knowledge, by virtue of having been indoctrinated with the false and devilish tenets of islam as expressed in the their so-called holy book - namely, the koran - may God rot it.

I can't wait, this will be interesting. It will also be interesting to see how the Mosque gets gone bye-bye so the Temple can be rebuilt. There have been quite a few earthquakes recently that has been felt around Temple Mount where it even caused structural damage. Yes quite a few people believe in a theory that maybe suicide bombers may do their last prayer there only to blown them selves up but accident and the dome.

As a response to this it was only a joke brought by ancient and now resurfaced attitude of how Muslims desecrate history that does not belong to them and to be recycled for building Mosques. My statement was of it would not be surprised if that was the case and not of fact.

The Ark of the Covenant is probably in heaven as the book of Revelations describes it or it's mirror image of it. But there has been rumours it's kept in Ethiopia then brought back recently to Israel. If it is in the hands of the Jews then all they need to do is show it and maybe people might start to listen. But it is more likely brought into heaven, as it's Godly power is a bit dangerous on earth for today. The problem is if the Anti-Christ is to rise he could also use it as his weapon as God will give an open gate for him to show his evil power to the full in this dimension. The Other thing is even if they build a Jewish place of worship on temple mount it will do two things. One it will be a sign of the times, two it will show the Jews actually serving God and maybe accepting Christ as their saviour and three this will lead to the New Jerusalem from Heaven coming down. When Iranians destroy the mosque it will be by design, not by accident. It will be "collateral damage" that will be justified by the ultimate goal - the destruction of Israel.
Iranian leaders keep saying that the deaths of millions of their own people is an acceptable price to pay to reach that goal, so would they really care about either the Palestinians or about "the third holiest site in Islam"?
If terrorists ever did destroy it by accident (a missile from Gaza or Lebanon that missed its intended target) you can bet they will blame the Israelis or the US for causing the destruction and "framing" them for it.
An act of God, even an earthquake, will be blamed on the West. (We must have done it with our satellites or lasers or some such nonsense!)

Maybe hailstones from one of God's plagues might do it or global warming like tornadoes in Israel. They are coming to England this type of Texan weather so it could move further down the globe.
