KHAR: The ban on shaving of men’s beards has been extended across Bajaur Agency and violators will have to pay a Rs 5,000 fine, Ghulam Khan, president of the barbers association, said on Wednesday. “It has been unanimously decided that there will be a ban on shaving beards all over Bajaur Agency,” Ghulam Khan told reporters in Khar, regional headquarters of Bajaur Agency. The ban on shaving men’s beards was imposed following distribution of pamphlets from an unidentified militant group on Sunday that the practice was “un-Islamic”. “No excuse will be accepted for violating the ban and violators will have to pay a Rs 5,000 fine,” Ghulam Khan said, adding that the political administration had been informed about the barbers’ decision. “We have to take the threat seriously because no one can guarantee our security if we ignore the warning,” the chief barber added.
Meanwhile, some youths have decided to secretly hire a barber to shave their beards every week. “The barber will come to a secret place and shave our beards because we don’t want to grow it,” the youths told Daily Times.
This is a case where a close shave could result in a -- close shave.
Well, at least trim it, keep it a decent shape and wash it.

This is a classic example of what happens when a secular people come face to face with the true believers. Since the true believers have the koran on their side and most important of all guns and ammo, the secularists always give in. This even works against secular or nonmuslim countries.

Voltaire beat me to it. A can of shaving cream and a razor, that's all that is needed at home.
Only the very, very brightest Muslims can operate a razor without full-time Western technological assistance.

I don't get it. even for muslims this pretty silly. What do men who can't grow beards (quickly) do? And why is it considered a sint o shave your beard?
It is a sin to shave the beard because Mohammed said it was; the end, no arguments, back talk, discussion, negotiation, or interpretation. There are some Islamic opinion dealers (Muftis) who sat it is OK to trim the beard and some who say the beard must not be cut at all.
The real question is why would shaving the pubic regions and plucking the arm pits be required but the beard must be left alone. One Islamic defender posted a comment at JW saying that Mohammed was concerned with hygeine. I did not reply at that time, but I will now. It is nothing more than Mohammed's fixation on controlling every second of his follower's lives.
Hygeine was not the issue, I do not believe that Arabs were immune to head lice and infested with body lice (aka crabs).
When performing wudu, Muslims are instructed to use "clean sand" in absence of clean water. They are not excused from performing this silly ritual. If hygeine was the problem this "clean sand" idea would not exist.
OK the barbers have rolled over. Time for phase two. By next month pious enforcers will be giving out beatings (or worse) to men without beards.
Muslim invent the soap we use today still to cleam yourself. Use clean sand to wash is better than dirly water. One of the best way to remove greese without useing toxic degreese is to use than fine sand with soap than rub it on your hand the fine sand act like sandpaper to remove the greese from your hand.
I hope they are permitted to shave the women's beards.

Get you chemical history straight or shut up. Your suggestion to use dry sand to remove grease is too silly for comment.

I hate to say it, but I think you fellows are missing the main point. It's not so much barbers shaving beards which is offensive to these thugs, it's beardless, clean-shaven men.
Sure, you can shave yourself, hire a barber secretly, swap shaves with a buddy--for awhile. In a couple of months at most, though, if you're a male much over the age of 17 or so living in this region, you're going to be in some pretty serious trouble unless you're at least sporting a fairly decent five o'clock shadow.
The Taliban were of course most notorious for their draconian strictures imposed on women, but they also fined and even imprisoned men for just *trimming* their beards. Getting a close shave was just, shall we say, not a fashion option.
This is the main point: There is no freedom in Islam. You can't do anything you want to in Islam. There is no fun in Islam. You can't wear what you want; you can't eat what you want: you can't love whom you want. What the hell are we putting up with this B.S. for?
Isabellathecrusader started me on this tangent. Islam dictates men's clothing also. Trousers must be above the ankles, ie highwater pants. Men cannot wear certain kinds of jewelry, or bright colors or silk. There are probably more prohibitions, but those are the ones that come to mind. Islam controls everything, and I mean everything.
The reason we are forced to put up this is so that the elite, intellectual, liberal governing class can buy their way into heaven with someone else's money and sweat. We are supposed to be this all inclusive multi-cultural society that welcomes all people of all beliefs and persuasions and gleefully accept their superstitions. That question (at 11:20 above) is close to the heart of the matter: the total regulation of every aspect of life that Islamic law seeks to impose.
In its sheer absurdity, the case highlights the difference in values and the respect for individual rights between Sharia law and Western civil society, for which, in the latter case, Oliver Wendell Holmes might say "Your right to swing your beard around stops at the end of my nose."
How brainwashed does a group of people need to be to believe that shaving a beard is against Allah just because a so-called prophet said so? I would think Allah might have more important things to do than worry about the facial hair, or lack-thereof, of the beings he created.

Well, it's not really a "habit" if they no longer even have a choice as to whether they can shave or not, is it? I agree that the issue taken alone might seem frivolous, but I think it's part of the bigger picture, that, as Pelayo pointed out above, Islam controls everything. If they get this worked up over mere facial hair, imagine all the other things in western culture they probably can't wait to prohibit or put restrictions upon. I'd consider those about as "real threats" to western civilization as anything else the jihadists want to accomplish.

The hadith mentioned women in particular because they normally seek to beautify themselves more than men. But the warning surely applies to both sexes, because the condition for the curse is declared, and thus the curse applies to anyone
