MULTAN: The wife of a farmer from Bahawalpur has registered a case against her husband, accusing him of selling her kidney without her consent to purchase a tractor, police said on Monday.District Police Officer (DPO) Bahawlapur Arif Nawaz said that police had registered a case against farmer Shakeel Ahmed following the written complaint of his wife, Safia, “in the light of a medical report indicating that (her) husband had unlawfully sold one of her kidneys”.
Safia moved an application to the Noshera Jadeed station house officer (SHO), stating that her husband, whom she married in 2004, had beaten her when she was three-months’ pregnant, causing her to miscarry.
She said that her husband then took her to Bahawal Victoria Hospital, on the pretext of seeking medical treatment. She accused doctors of removing one of her kidneys during a surgical procedure, claiming that they had acted in collusion with her husband and had failed to secure her consent before removing the organ.
Safia said that she only came to know about her ordeal when she later contracted a urinary tract infection and sought medical treatment. She also pointed out that that her husband then confessed what had happened, admitting that he had sold her kidney and used the money from the transaction to buy a tractor.

In Pakistan, the life of a person could be worth as little as a few thousand rupees (few hundred pounds). A large portion of the countries population lives earning under $1 a day. Yet, when these same people are sold for their flesh, they fetch millions.

Yes, and another example of that is the worth placed on girls. They are seen as nothing more than another mouth to feed and a vagina to pimp in marriage to some sick old man. Sadly it's the same with Hindus in India.
It's the never ending discussion of culture vs. religion; in most of the world the two are intertwined, and for a given cultural phenomenon it's hard to tell to which extent it's a consequence of the religion. And vice versa.
On this one I agree with Naseem, though: This is a story about Pakistan. The farmer doesn't try to justify his actions on religious grounds.
I apologize for my joke above. It was crude and in bad taste. (Although I still find it unconstructive to automatically regard women, be they Muslim or otherwise, as victims. They contribute to the Pakistani culture, too...)
Religion is cited directly as motivation and/or justification in a million other cases. There's plenty to work with. By including this in our case against religiously motivated discrimination, we only dilute our argument.

She said that her husband then took her to Bahawal Victoria Hospital, on the pretext of seeking medical treatment. NASEEM said that she only came to know about her ordeal when she later started to become more ISLAMIC AND RELIGIOUSLY DEVOUT, so she sought medical treatment. She also pointed out that her husband then confessed what had happened, admitting that he had sold her BRAIN and used the money from the transaction to buy a CHIPATI.
Doctors reported that NASEEM was able to function much as she had always done with the organ removed, but admitted that her posts on "JIHAD WATCH" were getting slightly more erratic, confused ill thought out, and just strange.
NASEEM'S husband had originally hoped to purchase a tractor with the proceeds from the sale of his wife's brain but had found that the organ was pretty worthless.

Having had a family member lose a kidney, I actually doubt this report.
I'm astonished to even consider agreeing with Naseem that this sounds like a paki-bashing exercise, but the woman would have noticed a scar that went halfway around her body, was in a place that had nothing to do with her beatings, and then there would have been the medications, the tubes and the days or weeks in hospital afterwards.
And that's here in Oz.
Somehow I doubt a pakistani farmer would be able to afford the drugs to suppress infection and kill pain if the money was for a new tractor.
I can see that she may not have noticed a tractor if she was being a good muslimah and hanging about in her house as she should, but removing a kidney is not a simple operation.
Just my 2cents.
