Spain, and especially Catalonia, has been converted into the principal base of Jaish-e-Mohammed (the Army of Mohammed) in continental Europe, a Pakistani terrorist group tied to the central command of Al Qaeda and implicated in the July 7, 2005 attacks in London.
Sources from the Pakistani security forces alerted this paper that JEM "has recruited Pakistanis residing in Spain, and have sent them to Pakistan, where they have put them at the disposal of the networks of Al Qaeda in the tribal zones," in an itinerary tracing the route which Shehzad Tanweer and Mohammad Sidique Khan, the authors of July 7, took in November, 2004.
These sources emphasized the "collaboration" between the Spanish and Pakistani spy services, which allowed them to follow very closely the travels between Spain and Pakistan by various individuals.
The same sources said that, in Spain, JEM uses "mosques to recruit and mobilize volunteers for jihad, as they do in Great Britain as well." The Pakistani officials indicated that JEM uses Spain, and especially the Catalonian territory, as a logistical base. "In Catalonia, its members raise funds and send stolen European passports to Pakistan," they advised.

For centuries Spain had a celebration on the day all Muslims were expelled from that country. Sadly, as of this year, the celebration is no more - being as the Spaniards don't want to "offend" anyone. How sad. They truly deserve the fate they are getting and are going to get.

Being a Spaniard myself, I am even angrier than you are about all the developments which have taken place in my country since March 11, 2004.
But you focus your attention only on what happened to our troops and our commitment to the allies in Iraq, while many more, and much more appalling things have being taking place here under PM Zapatero's leadership and influence.
Mr Zapatero and his Socialists, with the active support from the United Left and the regional separatists is pushing forward with a very divisive agenda which leaves practically not a single issue left untouched. In our minds, Iraq is very far away by now.
Suffice it to say that Mr Zapatero's reelection is far from secured, and he is becoming more and more radical.
As for the Jaish-e-Mohammed issue, well, it is true there is leniency at a political level from the authorities. But this is especially so in Catalonia, whose regional Government is progressive "ad nausseam". It does not mean, however, the police is inactive or the intelligence community is blind. So it is expected once the political situation changes in Spain it will be possible to act on them.
The problem here, as elsewhere, is the fatal combination of the local progressive useful idiots with the patient and determined Jihadists.
The public mood is changing in Spain nowadays. The opposition to all what is wrong with Zapatero and his allies is growing up, and even his supporters are harbouring doubts. Forgetting the tinfoil-hatted tendency in this thread, what people do not understand is that Zapatero and his freak show do not think they are being cowardly. They hardly think about Islam at all, which can be seen by their complete inability to formulate a coherent line about it - one day they are for fighting the terrorists, the next they open their country to immigration. Their main concern in politics is the destruction of the Catholic Church in Spain. For the last 300 years, the Spanish have suffered from a chronic fear of being left behind by the West, of subsiding into a dreary Third World condition of poverty and backwardness; and the people most concerned with this have long identified the Catholic Church as the power itself of backwardness and isolation. This is crap, of course, but it does not stop generation after generation of Spanish politicians from trying to victimize the Church in the name of progress. Zapatero is the last, far from the worst, but definitely the most ridiculous, of the lot. And if his inherited and imbecilic hostility to Catholicism causes him to open his country to Islam, future generations will know how to judge this Spanish mental illness.

This just might be good news. It would seem that the Paki authorities are doing something right, and that the jihadists are having a hard time recruiting among the Pakis themselves. After all, Pakistan is the 2nd largest moslem country, with 160 million pop. The jihadists should be able to get all the numbers they want from such a pop. without having to get recruits from the 2 or 3 million ex-pat Pakis in Europe.
Also, note that they're being sent to the "tribal areas", i.e. being used to terrorize other moslems, rather than being used in European plots.
The bad news is the still-continuing financial and documentary support of the groups in Europe.

I forgot earlier to say something about the festivities.
ALL, I repeat, ALL places where some kind of local celebration is held every year to commemorate the Christian Reconquest of Spain, and, especifically, the local taking over by the Christians, is still going on.
One of the most important ones is on January 2 in Granada, the town that was the last Muslim kingdom of Spain. The celebration there is alive and kicking, all efforts by local progressives and others to challenge it having failed. Actually, the controversy has only made the celebration much more popular. Another recent example of this is the attempt by the 1000-strong Muslim community in Córdoba to "share" in the Mosque-Cathedral; attempt which has actually backfired.
As for the "Moros y Cristianos", these are local, colourful celebrations in different towns and villages of the Spanish Levant (the area around Valencia). Some local celebrations have, effectively, tone down the event. Most others, haven´t. So the show does go on.
Official Spain now is clearly dhimmi, out of its declared leftist bias. However, popular Spain -including the majority of those who vote for Mr. Zapatero- is, clearly not.
Like an spaniard, I would say that I am ashamed for many things happening in my country, but the islamic toilets in the british prisons, or the CAIR or the election of Keith Elisson in the US, is a warning that the problem isn´t Europe but worldwide, and the dhimmis aren´t only in Spain but in other countries, the list is spreading and the idiocy works.

You say the Spanish hardly think of Islam. Perhaps. It's hard to say what thought processes were at work when Zapatero made nice for the cameras with that kefaya around his neck.
It has been claimed (on this blog in fact) by Europeans that Muslim immigrants in Europe number around twenty million at most. But the above article makes me suspicious of this figure.
It may well be that Europeans have absolutely no idea how many Muslims are presently in Europe. I suspect that the REAL figure is going to be close to double what is now believed.
So when the jihadists begin their campaigns of "conversion" the Euros may be twice as surprised by the degree of violence being perpetrated against them.
These people should have known that turning against America and Christianity in general was a rotten idea.
Because burning bridges this way usually is.
