Dhimmitude at Cambridge University

Cartoon Rage -- and Cartoon Dhimmitude -- comes to the green pastures of Cambridge University. "Fears magazine could fuel racial tension," from CEN News, with thanks to An Art Major:

A CAMBRIDGE University student is at the centre of a race-hate probe after printing anti-Islamic material in a magazine.

The 19-year-old second year student at Clare College was in hiding today (Friday, 09 February) after printing the racist cartoon and other vile material.

The article is said to be so inflammatory the undergraduate has been taken to a secret location for his own safety.

Today (Friday, 09 February), senior college officials were locked in urgent talks about how the material came to be published and what action to take against the student at the centre of the scandal.

A university spokesman said police had been made aware of the incident.

A spokesman for Cambridgeshire Police said: "This is a matter for the university authorities to deal with."

He added that an investigation was not yet in progress.

The student magazine, Clareification, printed a cropped copy of the cartoon of the prophet Mohammed next to a photo of the president of the Union of Clare Students.

The cartoon was captioned with the president's name and vice versa.

There was also comment suggesting one was a "violent paedophile" and the other was "a prophet of God, great leader and an example to us all."

The cartoon was the same one which caused riots across the world when it was printed in a Danish newspaper.

For his own safety and that of others, the student, who is British, has been taken out of his current accommodation and put in a secure place.

The paper had been renamed Crucification for a special edition on religious satire.

The front page included headlines stating: "Ayatollah rethinks stance on misunderstood Rushdie".

On page six, pictures were shown of Muslims holding placards reading: "Behead those who insult Islam" and "Freedom go to Hell."

Enraged students have bombarded the Union of Clare Students with complaints and vice-president of the university's Islamic society described it as "hugely offensive" and "crude unabashed prejudice."

Hard to believe. There seems to be an unstated assumption that if something offends Muslims, it must be terrible and racist and awful. Of course it's a bit hard to judge without seeing the stuff in question, but from the description its greatest offense is telling the truth about Muhammad's sexually imposing himself on a 9-year-old. (Note: This is often misrepresented as Muhammad marrying a 9-year-old. Wrong. He married her when she was 6. He held himself back from consummating the marriage until she had reached the mature age of 9.)

Yes he was very noble to wait 3 years we should not judge him............

"A CAMBRIDGE University student is at the centre of a race-hate probe after printing anti-Islamic material in a magazine."

Repeat after me:

Islam is not a race.
Islam is not a race.
Islam is not a race.

But it is entirely permissible and appropriate to use the words hate, race and Islamic in the same sentence.

Imagine that the paper had a satirical image of Christ and had insulted or made fun of Christian evangelicals (for what let your mind wander), comparing the president of Cambridge to Pat Robertson, or Jerry Falwell, or to Jesus, who we all know from early Christian sources, had many wives, consumated a relationship witha nine year old girl, slayed unbelievers, and fought many bloody battles for the glory of God.

Would there be problem? Who would become 'inflammed'(perhaps readers would become inflammed with laughter)? Who would complain about 'racism'?

And would the student have to fear for his safety? Who and what are the real problems here? Does the administration and the students at Cambridge have the courage to admit it?

MUSLIMS hate the truth...Muslims hate depictations of the truth...They really hate the truth when the common folk see or hear it....Muslims hate the truth givers...Muslims hate the truth....

And do note that nine in Lunar years is still only about eight and nine months by our way of reckoning.

There was a time when the sort of young men who went to Cambridge owned swords and/or guns and knew how to use them.

There was a time when such young men could count on their freinds and peers for support in a fight.

There was a time when running and hiding from a crowd of schoolboys without a fight was considered shameful.

There was a time when the better sort of people were expected to stand up and defend what is right.

Maybe that was a better time.

Dhimmis indeed!

Don't the dhimmis of Cambridge remind you of chickens with their heads cutoff? Running around frantically, flapping their wings. Islam is a not a race, it's a cult. So a person who doesn't like cults is called a 'cultist?' Doesn't sound right does it?

How prejudiced can the MSM be (is this news source MSM or Moonbat)? They call this a "racist cartoon and other vile material."

The facts appear to be:

1. One of the Muhammad cartoons was printed. I don't know which one, but none were racist. It's possibly the one with the bomb on his head, which seems a reasonable depiction of his influence on violence worldwide.

2. "headlines stating: "Ayatollah rethinks stance on misunderstood Rushdie"." And? How is this racist or vile? It is a joke, since everyone knows that this stance has not been rethought in decades and is unlikely to ever be.

3. "There was also comment suggesting one was a "violent paedophile" and the other was "a prophet of God, great leader and an example to us all.""

Muhammad was violent. Nobody can rationally deny that. He slept with (in today's terms raped) a 9 year old girl. He might not have been a paedophile in the sense of preferring girls to women, but the term neatly sums up what he did to that 9 year old and what is being done in many islamic countries today.

4. "On page six, pictures were shown of Muslims holding placards reading: "Behead those who insult Islam" and "Freedom go to Hell.""

I don't know whether these are photos of real events, retouched photos or drawings. Either way, it is a fact that 'behead those who insult islam' placards have been displayed by muslim protestors. The other statement probably, too. Vile material indeed: vile material displayed by muslims.

I presume that the moslem council of britain, et al will be writing to cambridge university to complain at how the authorities there malaign the religion of peace.

I mean how dare they suggest moslems are violent and unreasonable bigots by putting the student into hiding???

what are the authorities there trying to say about islam?

Sadly this kind of thing is all too common in the UK.

'Hate crime' as a concept is Orwellian at best. Blair ushered in laws on hate crime which are guaranteed to ensure 2 things in the future a) the continued employment of rafts of lawyers who will attempt to interpret the appallingly badly legislation that legitimised this amorphous term b) encourage the adoption of all kinds of bogus victimology. Muslims, with their typically pschizophrenic aggressor-victim complex, are all too aware of this situation and indeed lobbied very strongly for said legislation in the face of so-called 'rising islamophobia' (another nebulous concept rooted in fantasy).

I suspect the police will not wash their hands of this one at all, despite their current stance. Heads must roll as the say at the mosque.

John Milton has just come out his grave at St Giles to curse those who have squandered their academic inheritance at Cambridge.

The disgrace is that this boy should stand out for daring to have published one of the offending cartoons. In an ideal world no Mohammedan would have been be able to walk down the street in this country or open the pages of a periodical without seeing these cartoons reproduced at the time of the artificial controversy. It's sad to see an ancient British university cower and grovel in the face of this, frankly, primitive religion which seems to regard fanaticism as a cardinal virtue.

Also, it's a canard to say that it was not considered unusual for an old man sleep with little girls in Mohammed's time. If a Caligula or a Bad King John can be described as having a sadistic streak, avant la lettre, then the most perfect of men and an example for all times can be characterised as having a paedophiliac tendency - if only as something completely different to the widows he usually had a yen for ( did the Greeks have a name for that?) Were there no masochists, fetishists or voyeurs before Kraft-Ebbing published his 'Psychopathia Sexualis'?

...vice-president of the university's Islamic society described it as "hugely offensive" and "crude unabashed prejudice."

But apparently... *not* untrue.....

And since when is Islam or 'Muslims' a race? Its a political ideologically posing as a religion.

"God save the Queen and her fascist regime, she ain't no ........," erm. I'll never go to Britannistan again. Words cannot express how much I detest this evil, rotten blemish on our planet. No, not you kind folks from the UK who must put up with this madness on a daily basis. Your grovelling, treacherous leaders are a disgrace to the world and are leading us all down Submission Lane.

Isn't it about time for a new bout of zombie rage? Was it really one year ago, those hilarious TV pictures of anomie ridden submissives with "that" look in their eyes? Ah, those were the days. Whose turn now? Not Denmark again, please. Somebody else carry the No Submission banner this time.

I mean it, maaan.

Where can we get a copy of the magazine?

Where can we get a copy of the magazine?

I'd like a collectors edition of the day free speech died, as well.

How about the dhimmitude at the Cambridge Massachusetts univeristy named Harvard which has a new feminist president. Got rid of Lawrence Summers who spoke the truth and now has an extreme feminist running the show. I'm sure she'll be just fine with the soft Islamic Jihad

I would never send a child there. Way too precious and PC

Dennis W:

I would not send any child to an Ivy League University. It would be like sentencing their minds to death. If the Nazis won the war this would be how the Universities would operate. However, the Nazis did not win the war but the Universities are operating as if they did. If the Communists won the cold war, this is how the universities would operate even though the universities are operating as if they did.

joeblough - You, Sir, are absolutely correct. Where are this young gent's freinds? Where are his professors? They would have to burn the College down around me if I were in his place, or he was a fraeind of mine.

here we go again. Just the fact that he has to go into hiding over it all is the bigger story.

went searching for it online and could only come up with this

http://www.srcf.ucam.org/clareification

Where is our gumption? Why do we allow hypocrites to vex and manipulate us? Islam is an incomprehensible chant not meant to be understood by its singer. Why do we allow such inconsistency? Our left joins them in criticizing ourselves.

Moslems are hysterical over nonsensical things, yet we nonetheless do not fight or take up values of our system. Does freedom of speech mean nothing? Why must we be sympathetic to hypocrites or worse who do not want you to think and you claim you are inferior. We give them license to abuse us when we allow our universities to be run by self hating cultural reletavists. Political islam probably thinks if we let them push us around so much we must not be passionate about what we believe anyway. We dis our own culture, by not criticizing political islam.

The article is said to be so inflammatory the undergraduate has been taken to a secret location for his own safety.

Sounds like a smart kid. Sounds like the 6th Pillar in action. Sounds like the slippery slope what with the hate crime laws and whatnot.

Sounds like the UK needs a Constitution.

What? Has the UK become part of the ME? Are we reaching a point where armed conflicts between ordinary and not-so-ordinary people will break out on the streets?

The oversight and denial are now transforming our societies to an unpleasant reality. Stop it! I say. Stop it!

Swim centre bars two-year-old girl because she isn't Muslim:
http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/news/article-23385279-details/Swim+centre+bars+two-year-old+because+she+isn't+Muslim/article.do

"In December last year, Croydon Council in South London came under fire for running Muslim-only sessions at one of its leisure centres.

Non-Muslim members of Thornton Heath leisure centre were angry that they could not swim during the Muslim-only sessions on Saturdays and Sundays unless they obeyed the strict dress code.

For men, this involved wearing shorts which kept the navel hidden and were extended below the knee, while women bathers had to wear a swimming costume which covered their body from the neck down to the ankle.

Similarly, Wolverhampton Council and South Lanarkshire local authority have also been criticised for operating women- only swimming for Muslims."

Now what is this business with 7th century backward people? Are we making it all up? Are we really Lefty?

I guess I don't understand how a university in a country with the rich philosophical tradition of thinkers such as John Locke and J.S. Mill, who contributed in some measure with their thought to the freedom that the free world now enjoys, can so easily surrender its sense of academic freedom to the vociferous demands of a minority like this. But then again, I don't live in Britain, so I guess I never will understand. Of all people, English academics should know better - they should know what is at stake here. The moment that authorities begin to censor materials based on the fear of violence and "in the interests of public order" is the moment that a minory of vociferous thugs has won, and that the freedom of thought, and its expression, has lost. I think that this is a telling example of how much power that a Muslim minority has gained in Britain, and it should be a warning to those of us in the States to fight for the right to free speech, while we still have it.

Universities in general would have to be the home of dhimmitude, mainly because they are the well-spring of post-modernism and multi-culturalism - they let slip of reality a long time ago. They have no answer at all to the Jihad.

spectre,

I agree with everything you say except the last sentence -- "it should be a warning to those of us in the States to fight for the right to free speech, while we still have it." It sounds as though you've already lost it, as dennisw pointed out above:

"How about the dhimmitude at the Cambridge Massachusetts univeristy named Harvard which has a new feminist president. Got rid of Lawrence Summers who spoke the truth and now has an extreme feminist running the show"

I'd start nearer home if you need dhimmis to fight.

Imagine if all the world's religions were as intolerant and vicious as Islam.
There wouldn't be a living soul on the planet.

"Sounds like the UK needs a Constitution."

We already have a constitution, and have had for hundreds of years – an unwritten constitution based on tradition and the common law and parliamentary law as interpreted in the courts. I suppose you mean a written constitution of fixed rules, such as the proposed constitution of the European “Union”, which was rightly torpedoed by the voters of France and Holland a while back. Can you imagine what such a British constitution would be like, as it would be drafted by people steeped in political correctness? It would be all hot air and multi-culti guff, and would no doubt make it a criminal offence to criticize Islam. The British constitution, like the monarchy (another obsession of some JW posters) is not the problem.

Someone needs to make thousands of photocopies of the offending cartoon and plaster them all over Cambridge, indeed all over the UK. Let the sharia cops have to spend all their time removing cartoons glued to the sides of buses and postal boxes, stapled to light posts, on walls of bathroom stalls, etc. Also, anonymously mail copies to everyone in the phone book with a Muslim name. It's time to up the ante!

Karl Pov-

He married at 6 consummated at 9 and held off penetration - but it seems from venerable tradition that The Perfect Man probably - to put it crudely- had her jack him off and fondled her.

We have a journalistic saying over here in the UK: 'Comment is free but facts are sacred.' When I wrote to the Cambridge Evening News in the hope that they'd print my letter (I don't live in or near Cambridge, so they probably won't) I also took the paper itself to task for allowing comment in an unbylined news story, in the use of the word vile - not in a wider quotation or even in its own scare quotes. This is inexcusable. Feature articles with bylines - OK, they can comment. Leader columns likewise. But news stories are supposed to be straight reportage, straight down the middle, objective, giving both sides, all that stuff. It's sickening.

JFGR,

I suppose you're right - free speech just ain't what it used to be. The Ivy League has been a bastion of political correctness for a while now, and I don't foresee that changing anytime soon. However, I still believe (and hope) that free speech has a chance in the South, where I am from. The South is in many ways a world removed from the more liberal Northeast, although this is changing rapidly and is not as much as it was in years past. Consequently, I think that one might be able to get away with publishing cartoons like these down here, in the Bible Belt, where there is not a lot of affection for Islam. The problem is that a lot of people here are naive, as I used to be, hearing president Bush and the like preaching Islam-is-a-religion-of-peace-and-brotherhood-yada-yada. If the truth were to become known, you might see people down here willing to stand up to Muslim oppression of the truth.

Ultimately, if the words proclaimed by Patrick Henry, "Give me liberty or give me death!" still resonate in the hearts of Americans, then we still have a chance. America has won and preserved its liberties through the blood of its citizens, and sadly, it may come to this someday for the right to speak the truth.

Spectre,

I take your point about the American South -- it must be a different world from the East Coast. What really gets me is that Cambridge (England) is my old university, and I fondly believed that they still prided themselves there on free speech and plain speaking (as they did in my day). Cambridge is a collection of colleges which still have a fair amount of autonomy, and I hope what's going on at Clare isn't typical. I just wonder how much money they might be getting from Middle Eastern students and benefactors -- which of course wouldn't make it less shameful, in fact would make it even more shameful if they had been "bought", or were exercising self-censorship so as not to jeopardize a possible benefaction. If Clare had been my old college I'd certainly have wanted an explanation.

Story is getting stranger and stranger.

The Senior Tutor has now ordered that all copies of the magazine be "destroyed" and has removed the website link from the internet.

The College Political Blog has nothing, absolutely nothing, on the matter!

Remind you of a particular country in the 1930s?

my take here

I think there must be money at stake here.

The UK blog 'Up Pompeii' quotes one of the Muslim students at the college:

Asim Mumtaz, president of the Ahmadiyya Muslim Association:
"I’m horrified and shocked. In such a seat of learning, I am horrified that things could stoop to this level.
I’m actually shocked that intelligent people know how offensive this cartoon is and that they have decided to reprint it in such a horrible manner. It’s disgusting.
I hope the magazine and the JCR apologise for what they have done. We thought we had gone past this and that people realised there is a difference between freedom of speech and outright insult.
I am very shocked, I would not imagine this in Cambridge, maybe some other university, city or country. We have such intelligent people and they understand the consequences of their actions. "

Captain Morgan pointed out in the comments section, that the last sentence sounds like a threat. And I thought Naseem's little lot were peaceful, non-violent souls!

The article is said to be so inflammatory the undergraduate has been taken to a secret location for his own safety.

They should start to detain jihadists for THEIR safety!

AND OURS!

"The South is in many ways a world removed from the more liberal Northeast, although this is changing rapidly and is not as much as it was in years past. Consequently, I think that one might be able to get away with publishing cartoons like these down here, in the Bible Belt"

Spectre,
I disagree. A few years ago, the University of Alabama at Birmingham spent $20,000 from mandatory student fees to purchase Andre Serrano's "Piss Christ". Students protested being forced to pay for this monstrosity but nobody threatened violence or demanded that Serrano be killed for his acts of blasphemy.

The Clare College Muslim student quoted above said:

"We thought we had gone past this and that people realised there is a difference between freedom of speech and outright insult."

Woolly thinking, unworthy of a Cambridge student. Insult is in the mind of the beholder, and may be a CONSEQUENCE of someone else's exercising his right to free speech. Freedom of speech implies freedom to criticize, satirize, ridicule and lampoon others, in other words possibly insult them. (As one who has just been called a "liberal pansy" by a JW poster, I think I can speak with some authority!) There should be no right in a Western country to be shielded from insult and ridicule. Otherwise, what does freedom of speech mean?
