I can only think that it is an allusion to the sale of London Bridge but an explanation would be much appreciated.
It's from the old comment, "Don't buy the Brooklyn Bridge." New York City hucksters would sell visitors from the "sticks" the Brooklyn Bridge (something the hucksters didn't own). "Bridge for Sale" is another term for a scam put upon the gullible.

The answer is simple.
