A man has been accused of plotting to kidnap and kill a member of the British Armed Forces, the Crown Prosecution Service said today.Four other men have been charged with terrorism offences following a series of raids in Birmingham last week.
Parviz Khan, 36, was charged with plotting to kidnap and kill.
Mohammed Irfan, 30, Zahoor Iqbal, 29, Hamid Elasmar, 43, and Amjad Mahmood, 31, were charged with various terrorism offences.
The five men, all from Birmingham, are due to appear at City of Westminster Magistrates in London today.
The head of the CPS counter terrorism division, Sue Hemming, said Khan is accused of giving "effect to his intention to kidnap and kill a member of the British armed forces" between Nov 1 last year and the time of his arrest last week.
The Telegraph didn't want to come out and say it, but one expects that the accused are not Church of Englanders.
After two of the men were released last week, the local Muslim community accused the police of stirring up racial tension. One of the released men, Abu Bakr, later said: "These laws are designed specifically for Muslims. We are feeling the brunt of it all. We are the ones that are being locked up, detained, and then told to go back to our lives."Mr Bakr told BBC2’s Newsnight the episode would live with him for the rest of his life.
Well, Mr Abu Bakr, apologies from Her Majesty's government, but we expect you'll cope. Better having to live down this "episode" than a serviceman losing his head.

Maybe it's because the brunt of terrorist acts are carried out by Muslims. If the Druids acted like Muslims they would probably be arrested on occasion too.

Bakr said a lot more to Newsnight. Every single word was calculated to discredit the police and special branch: they were incompetent, they were ignorant they asked stupid questions, their name for the operation (gamble)showed they were pushing their luck. After their propaganda success over Forest Gate and the ritual recitals of their suffering and injustices from Guantanamo dischargees, the statement by the released suspect is becoming a minor branch of jihad.
One amusing phrase used by Bakr was a reference to 'this so-called western civilisation.'I'm not sure he would know what civilisation was if it bit him on the backside.

No civilization with any taste would bite his backside. Kick it, fry it, send it to hell; all would be much more palatable.

The laws are there, if you break 'em, you're arrested, tried, and, if guilty, convicted. No "race," not even ideology or ethnicity is written into the laws.
The usual Moslem whining and complaining, "Boo-hoo, they're picking on us poor, innocents who are only practicing our "religion."
But that "practicing of their "religion" is what breaks the law.
To further elucidate: Cutting off the head of one who is "practicing" the "religion" not in the way that another interprets that the originator of the "religion" would have it "practiced," is "practicing" the "religion" in the proscribed manner.
This is a new world; we're all learning to adapt; this is especially for Muslim's living in the Free World. You can't expect anyone to appreciate your worth, if it's worth for nothing ? If you create fear, your fear will be upon your heads, there is no escape. If you live by hate, the world will love to hate you; what goes around, comes around.
