Amir Muqam sounds as if he has gone to the Dinesh D'Souza Academy of Advanced Terrorism Studies, which holds that Islamic terrorism has only been around for 25 years, and we are evidently supposed to believe that no violence was committed in the name of Islam before that. Yes indeed, Islam had a "soft image" in the days before Khomeini and bin Laden, when only soft things like the Armenian genocide, and seventy million massacred Hindus in India, and untold numbers of Jews and Christians in the Middle East, Africa and Europe converted, subjugated as dhimmis, or massacred. It was all so soft, so cuddly.
I'm glad he says that terrorists must be dealt with with an iron hand. But in his "soft image" talk is yet another example of the abdication of responsibility and refusal to acknowledge unpleasant realities, and the utter inability to undertake any concrete action against the jihadists, that we have seen so often from self-proclaimed moderate Muslim spokesmen.

I don't know about any prior "soft image" because before 9/11, I didn't think about Muslim's AT ALL!

Amir Muqam is again playing the time tested Taquia,i.e., Islamic Deception. He has deliberately used the word "terrorists" and not the correct word--"Jihadis". Whenever terrorist word is used instead of Jihadis, it automatically dilutes the real culprit- the Islam. An ordinary Kafir gets an impression that Jihad is something sacred to the Islam and since these "misguided" muslims are although calling themselves JIHADIS but they are doing criminal killings not sanctioned by the RELIGION OF PEACE(sic).
Every one who believes in freedom and human dignity, must understand that it is jihad which has to be defeated. Kafir Governments from US, Europe, Asia etc. must declare that they are fighting Jihad (and not terrorism). Although one has to keep pointing out the truth, one should not really have expected him to tell the truth. How can any Muslim, in public life, dare to publicly tell the truth about Islam, even if he were -- very unlikely -- to dare to admit to himself, or possibly to a very few fellow Muslims -- the truth about the doctrine, and practice, of Islam.
He can't. He won't.
Nor will others.
There is filial piety. There is civilizational pride. After all, with Islam, all you have is Islam. Everything from the time of your particular pre-Islamic Jahiliya is without value, so you have no history, except the history that begins, the clock starts running, when Islam enters. The rest is merely of mild antiquarian interest to foreign Infidels, and since those foreign Infidels bring in tourist dollars, we Muslims will here and there have to pretend to a little interest as well (and some of our own people may begin to take an unhealthy interest in things that have nothing to do with, that preceded, Islam).
And there is fear. Fear not only of confronting the truth, and thereby forcing oneself into all kinds of mental and emotional desarroi (most people cannot take it), but fear of ostracism from one's family, one's friends, and of course, there is also physical fear: fear of being killed for telling the truth, even thinking the truth, about Islam. The climate of fear is akin to that felt by those who dissented in Soviet Russia, especially at the height of the purges, or in the post-World War II period when Stalin could go back to his old pre-war ways. Or akin to that felt by those who, in Nazi Germany, regarded with horror and contempt the goosesteppiing gauleiters whom so many other Germans found so terribly appealing, and their exploits so absolutely wunderbar.
