Israeli excavation works near the al-Aqsa mosque in the holy city of Jerusalem have led to a dangerous rise in Middle East tensions and could derail revival of Arab-Israeli peace talks," Jordan's King Abdullah said on Tuesday.

The Hashemite ruling family of Jordan, which traces its lineage back to the Prophet Mohammad, has acted as custodian of the Muslim shrines of Jerusalem since the British mandate of Palestine in the early 20th century.
The family kept this role in the divided holy city even after Jordan lost East Jerusalem and the West Bank to Israel in a 1967 war.

Embassador [sic] Al-Ayed told Jordanian news agency Petra that he demands Israel discontinue the excavations started on Tuesday, and warned against the dangers consequences resulting from "unilateral and irresponsible actions that provoke Muslims' sentiment all over the world."

Hamas has also charged Israel with "demolishing parts of the Aqsa mosque" on its website.
Although the works are not taking place on the Temple Mount, the Hamas website accused "the Israeli occupation government of conspiring to finally destroy the Aqsa Mosque, the third holiest Muslim shrine world-wide, and to install the alleged Third Temple on its ruins."

A history of false charges
Since the 1920s, Palestinian leaders have used the site as a rallying cry to wage war against the Jewish presence in Israel, and to try and gain support from Muslims abroad. The Palestinian prime minister today is continuing a 90-year tradition of incitement, which began with the Palestinian Mufti of Jerusalem, Haj Amin al-Husseini.
Husseini, who is widely seen as the father of Palestinian nationalism, used the al-Nabi festival, which commemorates the defeat of the Crusaders, and conquest of Jerusalem by the Islamic general Sala'ah al-Din, to instigate anti-Jewish riots in April 1920, even before he became a mufti. His message was simple: Jews are the new Crusaders, and Islam must re-invade Jerusalem.
After being elected mufti (through dubious strong-arm tactics, according to some sources,) and becoming head of the Supreme Muslim Council, Haj Amin embarked on an ambitious project of restoring the al-Haram (Dome of the Rock) and the al-Sharif (al-Aqsa Mosque).
By doing so, Haj Amin hoped to draw the attention of millions of Muslims to the Palestinian cause, and to gain material and financial support so that he could fight the growing Zionist Jewish community in Israel.
Members of the Islamic Council traveled around Muslim countries in the 1920s to gain support, with one delegation to Mecca stating: "The Islamic Palestine Nation, which has been guarding al-Aqsa and (the) Holy Rock ever since 1300 years, declares to the Muslim world that the Holy Places are in great danger on account of the horrible Zionist aggressions."

I have to say I'm mystified as to how Muslims, with their long history of destroying other religion's holy sites, were given control of the Temple Mount. What did the Israelis (and those who pressured Israel) think was going to happen?
I know Khomeini said that there was no humor in Islam, but he was wrong. You just have to have a very dry and very dark sense of humor to appreciate it.
Few things would please me more than seeing the Star of David spray painted in day-glo colours on the Dome of the Rock.
perhaps in some apocalyptic time (or in a moment of remarkable apology from the muslim world... okay, back to apocalypse) the Jerusalem mosque will be gutted and the Temple rebuilt, much as happened with the Hindu Temple in India. (I don't recall the end of that story, by the way; but perhaps we haven't seen it yet.)

I've had friends to go to Jerusalem, and they all came back with wonderful thoughts of the holy city. One person told me, you can see a clear division (Left to Right) right straight through the city.....the section on the left is bare; good for nothing and the section on the right is plentiful and growing.
I never asked what side was he referring to, but I can see through all the arguments that it's self explanatory. ;-)

I would like to see an enourmous Star of David burned into the surface of the moon...visible to all the world. As I read and learn more and more about Islam, I have come to understand that we are talking about a superstitious and backwards way of thinking. Only a "heavenly" sign would convince these deluded and devious people to change their beliefs (see Rudyard Kipling's poem "A British Soldier") and their utterly animal-like cruelty (see Charlie Wilson's War pgs 17 & 489 and the campfire-on-the-chest story somewhere in the Koran). This is a win-win situation for the Muslims, really Israel does not have any intent to actually destroy the mosque. If Israel stops doing the work that they are doing, the crazies claim victory. if israel ignores them and completes the work as planned, the crazies claim victory, since the mosque is still standing, and their outcries 'saved' it.

Archaeology in the Middle East is harder than you think. Recent evidence shows exactly as the Bible describes certain places and architecture. Leaving Muslims to look into history is not the brightest idea, they are know to throw away evidence that they them selves are ignorant of its worth some evidence was found in a tip that they were supposed to help find out history with.
Also the Muslims have destroyed giant tombs that the Bible describes of Giants. Buddhist history, The Alexandria library, the smooth stones on the surface of the pyramids that told why the pyramids were there was used as mosaic tiles to build Mosques. History shows that what does not fit into Islam will be covered up or destroyed. You think the USA or Russia cover up on UFO's then don't expect this side of the world any different it has been going on for a long time and Islam just added to the cover up which probably allowed Ufology to take a foot hold of doubt into mans past.
Evidence may one day pull Islam down and that is what they are afraid of where as it only helped Biblical History more than anyone.
The Jews could rebuild the Temple NOW, as a group calling itself the Temple Faithful and others have now, in waiting, all the Temple objects needed to have worship in a short period of time. They have all the Priestly garments prepared, all the gold and silver Temple artifacts ready to put in place including a red heffer and the lost, genuine anointing oil recently found in the dead sea caves that has been rehydrated containing very rare oils not seen since the Temple was destroyed by the Romans in 70 A.D. as prophecied by Jesus. Also there is some evidence that the original site of the Temple was not where the Dome is today. Some claim it is just north of the Dome site, just opposite the Eastern Gate.
Actually its the Pals digging around that have weakened the old Temple wall so that it actually bulges out in places.
