The MCB claims Muslim pupils may consider it too risky to swim during Ramadan as 'the potential for swallowing water is very high' and they may break their fast. It suggests that schools with a significant number of Muslim pupils should try to avoid scheduling swimming lessons during Ramadan to 'remove unnecessary barriers to full participation'.
Another suggestion is to avoid teaching sex and relationship education, including aspects that are part of the science curriculum, because Muslims are not permitted to engage in sexual activity during the month of fasting and they are also expected to avoid sexual thoughts and conversation.

Ooops. I think in this article I may have actually found one of those areas of commonality that D'Souza speaks of. I have nothing but disdain for the misogyny I find in Mohammed's life and teaching. However, as a traditionalist Roman Catholic, socially and fiscally rather conservative, I also have nothing but disdain for the sex ed classes offered here in most USA public, and even many Catholic schools. They are so values neutral as to practically guarantee one an illegitimate grandbaby, or at least a child infected with STD's and affected with broken relationships and broken hearts.
I consider myself a very liberated woman but I know the difference between liberty and libertine. I guess I too (if I were a mom) would want the ability to OPT OUT my kids from classes which teach the mechanics of sex without reference to its sacredness and meaning. I certainly wouldn't enroll them in drivers ed classes which taught the mechanics of the combustion engine but told the students that what they chose to do at a yellow light or a 4 way stop was a matter of personal choice. THat would take us from the chant "keep your Rosaries off my ovaries" to "keep your St. Christopher medal off my gas pedal"; neither makes sense to me. In this case on the issue of opting out of sex ed, I am surprised to find an area of agreement with Muslim parents.
I live in a mostly Jewish neighborhood. I never heared such ridiculous demands. Here are some differences.
If the community wants their kids to attend schools that cater to their level of observation, they attend one of the religious schools in the area.
If they want kosher food, they go to some of the kosher restaurants or kosher stores.
If they observe Shabbat, they use their own self discipline to refrain from activities that conflict.
The religious community CREATED resources that benefit everyone (anyone can go to a Kosher restaurant or store) instead of demanding the rest of the society to change.
Wait, I live in an actual multicultural neighborhood. Imposing religious dominance is not multiculturalism.
I predicted on this site several years ago that under intense pressure from the Muslim community, sanctioned by the hard-left elite in the country (The Guardian, BBC, Liberal Democrats), accompanied by dwindling public resources, the British government would gradually introduce and accept separate educational, legal, financial, and commercial institutions catering to Islam and leading inevitably to a sharia-based society operating within and, in many cases, independently of the greater society.

As I commented on another thread, I think this is great news. Mr Bari and his chums can go on making longer and longer lists of demands, the only people listening and nodding attentively are the guardianistas. The real people of this country are waking up, little by little, with each whining demand for separate this or that, special treatment, special rooms, special loos.
With each of your lists of demands, more people wake up from the fog of confusion imposed by the multicultural commisariat. It stands to reason that the Islamists would use it as an opportunity to make ever increasing demands to inflict Sharia laws on public education. In France, religious education is not considered within the province of public education and any parent wanting that will have to fund it from their own money. Thank God for that. I think now more than ever we need to embrace "no religion in public school". When "under God" in the pledge of allegiance was under attack, i was very disappointed. But then i got to thinking, if we allow religious expression in school then that means ALL religions, and there are some religions that I would not want my children exposed to, Satanism and Islam being among them. Religion should be solely the parent's responsibility, and certainly not the schools.

The solution is definitely not to ban ALL religion form school but to simply to be more unabashedly discriminatory about which ones we do allow. Mmmm. I'll state my point of view, I'm not in the least bit religious, and consider all religions and their purveyors as irritatingly deluded people. However I'll acknowledge that most people seem to need the comfort of spiritual delusion, to get their dna through this weary life. That being said, there's two points to the concept of no religious education in public schools.
a) Christianity is our traditional religion, and much as it pains me to admit it, quite a successful one. Our jurisprudence, and general moral code are Christian, as are all successful industrial democracies that spring to mind. Most people in census's tick their religion as Christian. Publicly funded schools, if they are going to teach a religion(ie a set of moral ideals to strive for), should teach Christianity. You know, that turn the other cheek, love thy neighbour stuff. Just because the pushy third world immigrants, from crummy social systems demand this rite and that rite, we should just politely say, NO.
b)Secondly, taking our traditional religion, which is after all just a reflection of how we think we should behave, out of education, is in effect conceding once again to the screaming, shouting hordes. I don't think we should do that at all. There's tolerance, and there's subserviance, there's a difference.
How the Left got so mixed up with Islamic fascists, I'll never know. They can't seem to tell the difference between dogma and reality. Stalin would be turning in his grave.

Christians have said they don't want sex education taught to their kids, or homosexuality, or evolution. The liberals have told them to sit down and shut up.

* Jewish boys heads should be covered.
* Jewish girls should wear modest clothing.
* Jewish boys should be allowed to grow Hasidic ear locks .
* Both should be allowed to wear Jewish amulets on necklaces which must not be considered as jewellery.
* School uniform policy should include the requirements of the Orthodox dress code.
* School meals should include the provision of Kosher food.
* All kitchen staff must receive training on how to handle Kosher food.
* The equipment and utensils used to prepare and store Kosher food must not be used to prepare non-Kosher food.
* Schools must make provisions for the daily prayers.
* Schools must provide for Friday temple congregational prayers onsite.
* Schools must provide a prayer area and washing facilities nearby.
* Schools must adapt toilets to include washing areas.
* Schools have a written policy for the requirements of Yom Kippur.
* Staff must have Yom Kippur awareness training.
* Schools must recognise and celebrate the spirit and values of Yom Kippur through collective worship, assembly themes and collective breaking of the fast.
* Schools must not schedule exams to coincide with Yom Kippur.
* Schools must not schedule sex and relationship lessons or swimming during Yom Kippur.

At what point do these 'recommendations' become 'demands'?
When there are sufficient numbers of Muslim parents to foist such requirements on a school, I imagine. And who will be there doing the foisting? The MCB, of course.
The MCB does not deal in 'recommendations', sadly. It is a self-selecting pressure group that claims to support Muslims, but its credentials - and its reputation - are highly questionable.

Someone made the point that if the 'recommendations' contained within this 72-page document were enacted, Muslim students would be so far removed from 'mainstream school life' that they might as well take private tuition or attend a madrassa.
In effect, this document purports to offer solutions on how to enable Muslim students to be integrated into British society.
In reality, it offers the opposite.
Instead, the MCB selects what Britons would regard as societal norms - art, dance, drama, sport, free association between sexes - and informs the reader that these are unacceptable to Muslims. Hence, British society must change its behaviour to accommodate the MCB's wishes.
This is spectacularly arrogant of the MCB. Beneath the soft-soapy language lies a list of demands; and if the government refuses to implement some or all of these demands, the MCB will claim discrimination, a breach of human rights, and so on.
These 'accomodations' should make it clear the supreme power in the UK is vested in Islam. That's assimilation all right.

The list of 'Jewish considerations' is fantastically good.
I am agnostic and in an ideal world I believe that schools should not carry religious instruction of any sort and all religious activities should be pursued off school premises.
Visible religious symbols and dress should be banned too. Furthermore, schools should have no obligation to serve Kosher or halal, vegan, fruitarian or any other kind of food.
Schools should encourage their students to engage in a full range of academic and non-academic activities and should not be hampered by religious restrictions of any sort.
Et cetera, et cetera.
Of course, my list of 'considerations' is a demand for secularism in education - in essence it is a political demand.
The MCB's manifesto should be seen in exactly the same terms.
I have noticed that the number of academic articles which encourage UK public school administrators to accommodate Muslim students has grown. I think it was around the mid 90s when I came across an article about how a UK school was encouraged to exempt Muslims students from physical education tests/exams during Ramadan.
Doing a current database search, you can find dozens and dozens of articles on the topic. (one example, "Harmony and Holy Month" published in Times Educational Supplement 9/29/2006 -- Abstract: "This article profiles the efforts of schools in England to support Muslim students during the month of Ramadan, where they are required to fast from sunup to sundown. The article highlights the Westborough high school in Dewsbury, England. There teachers learn about the requirements for Ramadan and try to ease lessons to account for the effects of fasting on learning. White students are also learning about the Muslim holiday which has led to better relationships between students."
The same is occurring in Canada.
Muslims will need their own private schools to avoid any conflicts. Simple.
Admittedly, I don't want the state teaching my children about sex education either. The sex lives of my children are none of the state's business. Neither do I wish my children to be subjected to all the wonderful "diversity" the world has to offer.
Private schools for Muslims is even worse. This has been the case in the UK (its called "faith based education"). There was a recent article which said that this kind of separation was not good, and that it was detrimental for everyone concerned (for Muslims it could lead to religious extremism -- Muslims feel excluded from mainstream British society, isolated in enclaves, etc.) I don't like the private schools (there's also very little control as to what is being taught at these establishments -- some have been found to be teaching from Saudi-provided texts, indoctrinating the students with hate messages against Christians and Jews.) I think integration into public schools is the best way to go (but not requiring the majority to bend over backwards to accommodate Muslims -- but the other way around, have Muslims do the accommodating to British/Canadian norms; basically, British public schools should not be forced to provide special treatment for Muslim students).

There's been faith based education in the UK, provided by the state for centuries. It's never ever been a problem. It's only become a problem now, because Muslims have demanded the same privileges, the right to run their own schools, subsidised by the tax payer. This has been allowed, rather than our spineless goverments, (and they're all as bad as each other), saying no, we are a Christian country, and these things traditionally only apply to Christian schools.
I can't wait until the Hindus, emboldened by the Muslim's big wins, start demanding the right for cows to live a life of harmony, and be allowed to graze on the high street. At least they've got lots of gods, and one of them has lots of arms.

I've just read the PDF document referenced in the main article.
This is actually a very useful document, and the MCB should read it again, very carefully, and then use it as a guide to where mohametans need to change their barbaric ways in order to fit into a civilized society.
Every point in the document is valid - just reversed! For example, where it recommends that 'Schools should accommodate Muslim girls so that they are allowed to wear a full-length loose
school skirt or loose trousers, a long-sleeved shirt and a head scarf to cover their hair.' the real point should be that Mohametans must be aware that in the UK we do NOT wear clothing like this, and in order to integrate fully Mohametans must be prepared to wear normal school uniform just like the rest of the pupils.

Some Muslims do want independent schools and completely separate development so as to keep their children from being tainted by Western values. The MCB are more ambitious than that, they want to foist Islam on everybody else. And what better way of getting at the general population than starting with children, using the "requirements" of their own kids as a frontline weapon so to speak. The MCB are nothing if not cunning and they really do mean to islamise nation in due course. It's amazing how many people don't see that this just jihad in another form. Every concession made to Muslim sensibilties is simply seen as kafir weakness and an encouragement to take it one step further. Integration in Muslim terms never means compromiseon their part - it ultimately means that everyone else must conform to the Islamic rules.
The MCB graciously accepts that Christianity and Judaism should also feature in the Religious Education element of the curriculum. Obviously, Islam should take priority for Muslims but they can also benefit from learning about 'the People of the Book'.
Likewise, non-Muslim students can benefit from learning about the life and deeds of Mohammad. I agree, but the source material and the teachers should, ideally, offer a variety of viewpoints and sources. They should be disinterested parties.
I would be most intrigued to know how the MCB thinks Islam - its core principles and history - should be taught to non-Muslims.
Incidentally, the MCB leaves out Hinduism and Buddhism.
In order to allay misunderstandings and suspicion, Muslim students should learn more about these two great world religions too. Isn't that so?
It is, in fact, a very sinister document, as it is less a guide for British educators than for every Muslim parent, with a child in a state school, to wage their own personal jihad against infidel society. Indeed it is a blueprint for Muslim pupils to defy and coerce their teachers into complying with Islamic law.
Islam is so exhaustively prescriptive that the possibilities for complaint and intervention are almost infinite.This is especially a problem when dealing with people who tend to reach for the kitchen knife the moment the word sex and the name of their daughter appear in the same sentence and there is a hidden threat of a violent reaction to any possibility of them being made to breach any of their myriad taboos.
If orthodox Judaism is equally meticulous in the way it tends to ritualise so much of daily life, accommodation is easier to achieve because that religion is not seeking to provoke and ultimately, win a war for supremacy.

This story, like all the rest, have the people in the host country that need to do the adjusting. Never the Muslims. This does not make sense to me. Are the British, Canadians, Austrailians, the only ones who can change to accomodate others? Are the Muslims ever expected to change their ways?
C.A.I.R. has "demanded" that two religious holidays be abolished in Florida; they've been persistently pressuring this school board for several years and now the board is about to cave:

The Council on American-Islamic Relations, a national Islamic organization, has pressured the School District of Hillsborough County to remove the Jewish and Christian holidays Yom Kippur, Good Friday and Easter Monday from the school calendar.
School board members proposed removing the religious holidays during a workshop on Tuesday, February 20, 2007. Ahmed Bedier, with the Council on American-Islamic Relations (CAIR), was there closely monitoring the meeting. The school board members were not considering the addition of a Muslim holiday during this meeting only the removal of Christian and Jewish holidays at the bequest of CAIR.
The school board members will take their vote on Tuesday, February 27, 2007.
"'We're tentatively optimistic - if they follow through with the vote,' said Ahmed Bedier, spokesman for the local chapter of the Council of American Islamic Relations." The Tampa Tribune reported on Wednesday, February 21, 2007, Metro Section, page 1.
This is the same school district that blocked emails from our supporters in November 2005 on this same issue. We are currently involved in litigation against the school district for violating our First Amendment "right to petition the government for a redress of grievances."

Ahmed Bedier, executive director of the Tampa Bay chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations, asked the school board in 2004 to include a Muslim holiday in the calendar. This request led to the recommendation in October 2005 to substitute secular holidays for Yom Kippur, Good Friday and Easter Monday.
However, the school board declined to follow the recommendation to remove these religious holidays after receiving emails from Florida Family Association supporters.
Ahmed Bedier and the Council on American-Islamic Relations continued to communicate their demands with school board officials from November 2005 until today.
School board members met during a workshop today, Tuesday, February 20th, where they proposed removing the religious holidays. Ahmed Bedier, with the Council on American-Islamic Relations, was there closely monitoring the meeting. In most schools in the UK this has already happened - not in response to mawzlem demands but in response to left-wing PC demands. The existence of the carping, barbarian mawzlem horde in our society merely serves, as far as the left-wing are concerned, to give credence to its position as the morally correct PC guardian of our actions and our consciences.

Hundreds of millions of Asian (ME’ner Christians and south Asians) or Russian descent moved to the West for that very same reason. For many, the West is the final stand. Heck, if the West falls, Russia and China won’t have a chance, no matter how hard they try policing their countries. And no, if they all fall, peace will hardly be known to anyone, as rebellions against tyrants will be continuous, and the states the tyrants make will hardly provide pleasant lifestyles for the general population. Indeed, all that is precious to the citizens of the West would be lost.
This war against us is not paranoia. It is as clear as an elephant standing in front of you. Current events provide evidence of it. Past events provide conclusive proof of it.
The truth is that many of these people have immigrated to the UK for the convenience of the economic benefits and have bought their particular baggage of culture and religion with them. All well and good, if they would only keep themselves to themselves like most of the Buddhists and Hindus and not try and force their way of doing things on others with incessant demands. It's not only the native British who are annoyed and offended by it but other ethnic minorities too.
