ZOA calls for retraction & apology after Sec'y Rice calls Hamas "a resistance movement"

What on earth was she thinking? Blowing up civilians in pizza parlors and on buses is "resistance"?

A press release from the Zionist Organization of America:

New York -- The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has asked the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, for a retraction and apology to the victims of Hamas terrorism for describing the Islamist terrorist group, Hamas, as a "resistance movement" when speaking to reporters in Europe (State Department, January 18, 2007). Hamas' Charter calls for the destruction of Israel (Article 15) and the murder of Jews (Article 7) and quotes the anti-Semitic forgery, The Protocols of the Elders of Zion, as justification for its war on Jews (Article 32). It is listed on the State Department list of terrorist organizations. Since the start of the Palestinian Arab terrorist wave in September 2000, Hamas has murdered nearly 500 Israelis and maimed thousands more in scores of suicide bombings and hundreds of other terrorist attacks targeting civilians. Since winning Palestinian legislative elections in January 2006, Hamas has explicitly refused to recognize Israel, accept its legitimacy as a Jewish state, or foreswear and denounce terrorism.

Unfortunately, this sort of inappropriate positive spin on troubling aspects of Palestinian Arab society does not seem to be an aberration, but in fact is pattern for Secretary Rice. In a speech she made last October, Rice drew an analogy of Palestinian actions and dreams to the American struggle for independence, which implied an odious comparison of Yasser Arafat and Hamas leaders to George Washington and Thomas Jefferson, thereby legitimizing the Palestinian promotion of Israel's destruction and their hatred and murder of Jews. She also echoed Palestinian propaganda statements, criticizing Israel for the "daily humiliation of occupation," thereby ignoring that Judea, Samaria and Gaza are not occupied territory, but disputed territory, and that Israel has given away half of Judea and Samaria and all of Gaza, where 98% of Palestinian Arabs live. She also claimed that "there could be no greater legacy for America than to establish a Palestinian state" (State Department, October 11, 2006).

On previous occasions, Rice has demanded that Israel accept the 2003 Roadmap peace plan with no changes and pressured Israel to give up control of security routes on the Gaza-Egypt border, ease control at checkpoints, transfer weapons to Palestinian security personnel and release terrorist Marwan Barghouti from jail. She also pressured Israel into the disastrous decision to relinquish security control of the Philadelphi Corridor along the Gaza-Egypt border, thus allowing Palestinian Arab terrorists to smuggle into Gaza huge amounts of weaponry.

What else can you call it but a "brain-dead" decision ? It's about like the roadmap to peace in Iraq. Bring the troops home and blow-em up !

we need some new leaders

Rice quoting from the Jihadi play book. Oh this is comforting. If Rice can compare our founding fathers to Hamas then she is ignorant. The Bush administration is so fixated on this Islamodemocracy idea creating a peacefull middle east that if it were poopoo, which it is, it would have backed up and started spewing out of thier ears by now.

I was going to renew my GOP membership this year, but now I think I'll put it on the back burner.
If someone this ignorant can be Bush's Sec of State, what does that say about Bush? No wonder we've gotten in trouble in Iraq.

This is typical of the outrageous remarks that Miss Bitter Rice has made since becoming secretary of state. A week or so ago, she claimed that abu mazen and olmert would soon be negotiating to fulfill the "roadmap." If she really believed that, then she was very much out of touch with the real world, besides being outrageous. That's because olmert may be out of office very soon. He's under investigation in several separate scandals. Nobody in Israel trusts him. He's thoroughly crooked. On the other hand, maybe that's the kind of foreign politician that the State Dept likes to negotiate with. That is, with a crook.

[my apologies to Silvana Mangano, the original Signorina Riso Amaro, and much more appealing than Washington's Bitter Rice]

She has compared the "Palestinians" of the Slow Jihad (murderous Fatah, sly Abbas -- willing to say whatever he has to say, in order to get the spigot of Jizyah turned on again, and the terminally-compliant Israelis to give up still more of the territory to which they have such a strong historic, legal, and moral claim -- to those who founded this country. She has done the same with the assorted warlords and semi-warlords in Iraq. She does not understand the nature of the American Republic, fails to understand the greatness of the Framers, fails to understand why Islam, in both theory and practice, flatly contradicts all of the most important principles of advanced Western democracy.

She does not know the history of the Middle East. She does not know that the phrase "the Arab world" is an invention of ARAMCO, and scants or overlooks entirely all of the many non-Arab and non-Muslim peoples whose lands were overrun by Muslim Arabs, and yet who, here and there, continue to live -- the Copts, the Chaldeans, the Kurds, the Jews, the Maronites, the Assyrians, and many other smaller peoples, including the Mandeans and the Samaritans. She does not know what the Mandate for Palestine which was given to Great Britain by the League of Nations, says about its aim: to "facilitate Jewish immmigration" and "to encourage close Jewish settlement on the land." She appears not to know the demographic history of that area, probably does not know that more Arabs, illegally, came into what is now Israel and its territories, in the two decades before the Mandate was established, and the two decades after (roughly from 1900-1940) than did the Jews who might, had the British actually lived up to their solemn commitments as Mandatory authority, come in far larger numbers (they were often kept out, discouraged, and during the period after Hitler came to power, desperate Jewish refugees were prevented from even hoping of going to Mandatory Palestine, and ships with refugees turned back, at a time when perhaps a million of those who were put to death might have been saved).

She is ignorant. She's a good girl, who did what her thesis advisor wanted. She has been dutiful ever since. But she is not learned. She is not someone who can think for herself. And of course, in those respects, she is exactly like George Bush, her employer. They deserve each other. But he, at least, has some sentimental attachment to, if not much knowledge about, the state of Israel. For now, one supposes, that will have to do.

She, on the other hand, like a great many others, and probably less so than many others -- Scowcroft, Lt. Gen. (ret'd.) William Odom, Brzezinski, tutti quanti -- is morally deficient. And right now, when war is being made, by means of many instruments other than the obvious combat or qitaal, and will be waged through such means for the next half-century or more, moral deficiency, and identification or support for the enemy, is intolerable.

Is not to be tolerated.

I'd say I can't wait till this fool (Rice) is gone
but i'd bet dollars to donuts the next one is as bad or worse.

Great!!!!!
So Hamas is a resistance movement and not terrorist oeganisation.

Well I guess then so is the Al Qaida , or the kasmiri terrorists killing civilians in India , or the numerous terrorist organisations going by god-know-what Islamic names throughout the world.
Cheers this is what the islamic people wanted and Condi gave it to them.
See now we no longer have terrorists in the world afterall now they are resistance movements.

This story reminds me of this story:

The civil rights leader Andrew Young, who was hired by Wal-Mart to improve its public image, resigned from that post last night after telling an African-American newspaper that Jewish, Arab and Korean shop owners had “ripped off” urban communities for years, “selling us stale bread, and bad meat and wilted vegetables.”

In the interview, published yesterday in The Los Angeles Sentinel, a weekly, Mr. Young said that Wal-Mart “should” displace mom-and-pop stores in urban neighborhoods.
“You see those are the people who have been overcharging us,” he said of the owners of the small stores, “and they sold out and moved to Florida. I think they’ve ripped off our communities enough. First it was Jews, then it was Koreans and now it’s Arabs.”

Aren't Her Speeche's Vetted ? Appraised ? Or checked for even the Smallest of Authenticity ? This is too absurd to be an over sight or accident. It's Provacative talk like this that Pave's the way to an Iranian Strike ... Oop's ! now theres a thought . The Infidel Mind Boggles .

THE need of the time is an USA-Europe-Israeli-Indian axis (or call it Christian-Jews-Hindu axis) to battle the cancer of Jihad becasue if not controlled now it will spread and spread and one day it may be too late.

In short all these religion dont hate each other, but Islam hates all these three religion and uniting is neccasry to fight the cancer

What is it about the state dept.?
Needs a good cleaning.

BornInfidel, when ignorant people fact check speeches for ignorant people, this is what ya get. The only alternative belief is that she is being manipulated by the career people at State who's loyalty is suspect, in my opinion.

Comparing Hamas to the American struggle for independence, is an outrageous insult. She should have her mouth washed out with old-fashioned, homemade soap.

If this is true, then it is far and away the most disturbing thing to come out of our battle for survival against the Jihad. In one fell swoop, this would amount to putting Hamas in the same bracket as Tito's partisans or resistance outfits like the Maquis, and leave the likes of Jean Moulin and Marcel Rayman spinning like centrifuges in their graves at the sheer thought of being compared with Hamas. Hamas are terrorists. Unlike Moulin and Rayman, they're not patriots fighting for the liberation of their country and the well-being of their fellow citizens from occupiers. They're wicked fannatics who are waging a savage war against, and seek to destroy another sovereign nation and subjugate its inhabitants - or those inhabitants who avoid being murdered by their suicide bombers. And we can hardly forget her urging a worthless ceasefire upon the Israelis, when they came under an unrelenting rocket barrage courtesy of Hizbollah almost a year ago.

Re: "daily humiliation of occupation,"

Yes, all brought about by their own intransigence and deception, their security threat to Israel, their determination to destroy Israel. (How does Dhimmitude feel to them?) "Palestinians" have cast their terror bread upon the water and it has come back to the "Palestinians" on the West Bank.

After Rumsfeld, it's time for Rice to go. Put in John Bolton - let's see if the Senate can block him this time, since his diplomacy with other UN members won't be so much on the cards.

Elias

I suggest that Jylands Posten do some cartoons about him as a tribute, elevating him to the ranks of Mohammed.

Hamas is a resistance movement??? The only thing Hamas is resisting is the right of people to live freely, peacefully, and choose their own religion and destiny. Hamas are roaches and it is time for a king-size can of RAID.

Very upsetting.

The Arabs understood before almost everyone else the power of language, and of controlling peoples' use of words. Terrorism...resistance? Only Goebbels truly grasped this prior to the Arabs.

Condi...she is just pathetic. A disgrace. And not because of this incident, but a hundred before it. Can't she go run the NFL already?

What the hell? Resistance to what?!!!

YA right!!!
It is a resistance movement !!!! Allright..
It resists peace and civilised way of life.
Its Islam man. For them civilised way of life is sin so they resist it.

I suspect Ms. Rice is suffering from a variety of Stockholm syndrome. She's so busy trying to rationalize and offer an official explanation for the Muslims' (absolutely, utterly, and unforgivably inexcusable) behavior in order to win points with the US government (in particular the US State Department's officials) and governments abroad (a lost cause especially if they are Islamic and I am sure she is trying to please some of those governments, too) that she has lost her perspective on reality.

HAMAS of course WILL piblicly claim to be a resistance movement. But so what?? Muslims claim all sorts of nonsense under the Islamic teaching of taqiyya too (they think we are stupid and are being fooled). HAMAS might as well claim that the cow jumped over the moon while the dish ran away with the spoon. There is no reason for anyone anywhere to believe ANYTHING HAMAS claims (except if HAMAS claims it is going to commit murder---THAT it will make good on!).

Many will castigate MS. Rice and for good reason. I'll be a gentleman and recommend that she take a month or two off and recuperate her senses in the Bahamas or someplace else quiet. Maybe she will return to her senses (such as they may be) upon returning to her job.

Or maybe it's time she tendered her resignation from this post.

Re: Hey everyone, Abu Laban is dead

Great career move on his part.

The Zionist Organization of America (ZOA) has asked the Secretary of State, Condoleezza Rice, for a retraction and apology to the victims of Hamas terrorism for describing the Islamist terrorist group, Hamas, as a "resistance" movement."

Just another example, in a long line, of an unfortunate utterance by a key member of the current US administration. If the supposed "Doctor" of Russian history would at least have mentioned the imminent threat that they, the Russians, currently pose to the West, by their collusion with explicit, yet to be properly named, enemies, or in reality, enemy of the West - she might have gotten a pass on this one by me.

Until further notice, the enemy is Islam.

Her track record however, speaks for itself. Even though the MSM, with their collective affliction by PC multiculturalism, takes people out of context all the time to further their cause, as seen through their collective PC multicurtural mindset, this is not the case here.

Indeed, Islam is Islam. For Rice to refer to any Islamic affiliation as a "resistence" to anything, is to profess no knowledge whatsoever, of the enemy at hand.

Hugh said:

Had, the operative word is, HAD. No-one with any attachement to Israel pushes her into the arms of the enemy - or arms the enemy like George Bush has...

Pride is right - Boltan is the ideal candidate.
Rice should resign and go after the football job she wanted. What a disappointment...

Why do they refer to the Protocols of the Elders of Zion as a forgery? That implys it's a fake, unauthorized copy - like an artist copying a painting and not a complete work of fiction. If it is a forgery then where is the original? If it's a completely bogus document then they should call it a false fabrication, or did they just use a bad choice of words?

Coming from someone who declared 'We in America know the benevolence that is at the heart of Islam.', here: http://www.state.gov/secretary/rm/2005/55577.htm
it is surprising that this abidi hasn't taken the shahada yet. Insha Allah, she will disclose she took shahada the day she took office as Sec. of State, along with her master, Sheikh Al-Bush.

If someone this ignorant can be Bush's Sec of State, what does that say about Bush?

Smart question!

l think too many are hard on Ms.Rice, l mean she has her docterate on soviet affairs, can someone send this lady some books to read on islam? not those of karen armstrong!

I have placed one of the offending paragraphs here:

"It's also the case that you had at that time a Palestinian Authority that was overrun by corruption, overrun by its ties with terrorism. And you ‑‑ and strangely, you had Hamas, of course, sitting out as a resistance movement, not at all, by the way, involved in the politics at all.

I am not sure what to make of this statement. I had not read it before my previous comments. Just what did she say? Is she saying that Hamas was a resistance movement against the Palestinian Authority? I'm gonna guess that in response to the criticism she will say exactly what I just wrote.

How did I miss this one?!
Yikes!
I need to do another cartoon about Condi?
Dry Bones
Israel's Political Comic Strip Since 1973

Wasn't the "birth" of the Iraq "democracy" likened to the fledgling American States in its formative years? (By some lame-brain or other?)

So can Hamas be likened to "freedom fighters" by another one of high IQ but lameness of the brain when it comes to seeing things as they are not what you want them to be--so you can enforce the idiotic "road map," dreamt up by someone who "had a dream" (not like MLK's), but a dream dreamt by an idiot, signifying nothing (two states, living side by side, in eternal brotherly love).

Dreams and idiotic statements. I thought that G.W. Bush put Negroponte in as No. 2 at State to relieve the pressure that appears to have overloaded Condoleeza Rice's brain.

Negroponte was once good at messing around in Central America. But he didn't do wonders in Iraq as US Ambassador. State is rotten with arabists (beholden to the Saudis in one way or another). Mayhap, Secy Rice has let them influence her as regards the beloved "Palestinians," and the so-lovely Mahmoud Abbas--and now an apparently redeemed Hamas. Pump some moneyand arms in there so's they can rid themselves of the "occupation" and set up a peaceful; state (my foot!).

What fools . . .

ZenaWarriorPrincess,

you said (re books about Islam for Secy Rice); "not those of Karen armstrong!"

she read Karen armstrong already; she read the books that led her to make an idiot statement about Hamas.

She also likes Abbas, because he is so neat-looking in his suit.

Obviously, the State Department is trying to be appologitic to both sides of the table, it would be much easier if they stood on the table demanding the principals of Justice, but that'll never happen when money is running-out the back door to both sides of the table ?

Between Condi and Hillary, the only thing that is likely to save the day is a regional war breaking out between Sunni and Shia elements, which could possibly happen in the next several weeks as Saudi Arabia and other gulf states deploy more than economic weapons against Iran and it's little Syrian spoiler in Lebanon and Israel/PA

Lame Cherry: have you run out of lithium or something? Outside of the notorious Protocols that Nazis and Islamofascists so love to cite, I have never read such cock-and-bull conspiracy drivel in my life.

Lame Cherry:

It is extremely unlikely that continental Europe is going to do anything at all (now or ever) about the global jihad, in Israel, on its own territory, or anywhere else for that matter. As for Scandinavia and the UK, even they are increasingly losing their will to survive as sovereign states on a daily basis. Eastern Europe may be of some help and they don't fit your profile of Europeans.

The EU leaders are the strictly "don't hurt me" or "peace at all costs" liberal crowd--and they always have been. If anything, Europeans are going to side in the future increasingly with the TERRORISTS as in fact France and Germany have been doing behind our backs over the past half century.

In fact, by the middle of this century western Europe will probably be at least 50% Islamic, in what is a truly a cautionary tale for Americans.

I don't know which is more appalling former president Carters terrible book on Israel, coupled with his remarks against the Jewish state. Or this secretary of state once again trying to force Israel into more concessions without one guarantee from the Arab side accept total eradication as a nation. The Arabs already have 2/3rds of the land in the middle east but it is obvious they want it all. To me this shows that once again the state department is pro-Arab and anti Israel. Condoleezza Rice really disappoints me. she really has learned well from the council on foreign relations crowd.

Eil wins when good men do nothing...Edmund Burke
Condolezza Rice lacks basic understanding of whatthe middle east issues are about. Time for her to be outted and exposed and pressure applied to have her transferred to office of dhimmitude in USA
She is using dhimmi speak and trying to legitimise terrorism ideals in name of usa expanive outreach to middl eeast who are largely anti usa in un and keep their collective hands out for more and more black mail dhimmitude payments of jizra tax...the middle east see usa as the enemy due to the usa democratc freedoms and womens rights etc. Time to expose condy as a liar and oppportunist dhimmi
