With those words the nine men charged with plotting a "violent jihad" on Sydney yesterday broke their silence for the first time since their arrest 18 months ago.Their voices echoed loudly down the corridors of Penrith Local Court as they were led down to the cells from the heavily fortified courtroom.
They repeatedly yelled out "Allah Akbar" – Arabic for "God is Great" – while smiling broadly and waving to supporters who stood near the court door being heavily guarded by sheriffs....
Rare glimpses of the accused revealed two were dressed in prison greens and another six in traditional Islamic robes. Bosnian Mirsad Mulahalilovic was the only one dressed in a suit and was sporting chin-length blond hair....
Friends of the men crowded around the entrance to the courtroom in the hope of catching a glimpse of the suspects.
Their efforts were rewarded at the lunch break with the alleged terrorists seen smiling broadly and waving to their friends.
Workers from a nearby cafe were seen delivering boxes of sandwiches to the court which were taken down to the cells. One of the boxes was marked with the word "halal".
Isn't the correct translation of allah akbar "allah is greater' or 'allah is greatest' meaning Allah is a greater deity than the deity of Jews and Christianity or any other religion?
A bit more information on this story. One of the suspects said he was looking to die in fighting jihad and that jihad was a reqiurement on all Muslims. Heres the story:

This topic has become a new interest for me. Thanks for this information Robert and your latest book. I'm generally moving toward the idea that the problem in the middle east is much deeper then the more recent (last hundred years) political positions. I just can't give the politicians that much credit. What I've read thus far of this religion is very concerning to say the least. Why does the media think we want to know every detail of Anna Nicole Smith as a priority and cower in the face of this issue? In fact, most people I know won't even entertain a discussion on the issue. Ignorance is bliss I guess. It really does seem that our rights and freedom is being taken away piece by piece.

I suspect that if you had met any of these Jihadist prior to their arrest for conspiring to wreck havoc on Sidney, they would have come across as your normal, run-of-the-mill, moderate Muslim imigrants -- the kind you see everyday on the streets, and driving cabs, in every major Western city.

This is something that we need to change right away. When you commit a crime, especially a felony, you automatically forfeit some of your constitutional rights. By knowingly committing a crime you have voluntarily accepted the distinct possibility that a term of incarceration may ensue.
Where is it written that incarceration must meet the requirements of prisoners held in jail? All this tommyrot about toilets facing Mecca, halal meals, prayer times and such niceties are freedoms enjoyed by those who do are not convicted of crimes. Once you are inside a prison, those rights and many others evaporate like the morning dew. Incarceration is a form of punishment. You do not have a choice of reading literature, it is censored or limited as the authorities see fit. You do not get to go online at any hour. You do not get to exercise at any hour. You don’t get to linger on the phone for hours at a time. You don’t get to visit with your loved ones any time you want to.
Why then do we pander to the individual needs of prisoners? We have outlawed smoking in prisons. Isn’t it time to eliminate special dietary requirements as well? I’m talking about vegetarian, vegan, Kosher and halal, all of them. Maybe Muslims would be less inclined to engage in Sudden Jihad Syndrome if they knew a steady diet of Spam sandwiches and crapping while facing east awaited them.

it might also have a detonating device that lacked any significant metal parts, but this seems odd to me. the large quantity of ammunition this bunch also had does not suggest that their plan involved much stealth. or maybe there was more than one plan.
i remain bothered about the length of time it takes for the public to get the details of planned attacks, which might help us to spot other groups working to the same plans, but

Sura (5:80) - "You will see many of them befriending those who disbelieve; certainly evil is that which their souls have sent before for them, that Allah became displeased with them and in chastisement shall they abide." Those Muslims who befriend unbelievers will abide in hell.
Sura (3:28) - "Let not the believers Take for friends or helpers Unbelievers rather than believers: if any do that, in nothing will there be help from Allah..."
Sura (3:118) - "O you who believe! do not take for intimate friends from among others than your own people..."
Sura (9:23) - "O ye who believe! Choose not your fathers nor your brethren for friends if they take pleasure in disbelief rather than faith. Whoso of you taketh them for friends, such are wrong-doers" Even family members are not to be taken as friends if they do not accept Islam. (This is the mildest interpretation of this verse from the 9th Sura, which also advocates "slaying the unbeliever wherever ye find them").
From the Hadith:
Muslim (1:417) - Taken to mean that one's own relatives should not be taken as friends if they are not Muslim.
Abu Dawud (41:4815) - "The Prophet (peace_be_upon_him) said: A man follows the religion of his friend; so each one should consider whom he makes his friend."
Bukhari (59:572) - "O you who believe! Take not my enemies And your enemies as friends offering them (Your) love even though they have disbelieved in that Truth (i.e. Allah, Prophet Muhammad and this Quran) which has come to you."
Ishaq 262 - "Some Muslims remained friends with the Jews, so Allah sent down a Qur'an forbidding them to take Jews as friends. From their mouths hatred has already shown itself and what they conceal is worse"

All Muslims are to spend time in hell for their sins. After paying for their sins in this fashion for a time determined by the crime, Muslims will then be allowed into paradise.

Sura (8:15-16) - "O ye who believe! when ye meet the Unbelievers in hostile array, never turn your backs to them. If any do turn his back to them on such a day - unless it be in a stratagem of war, or to retreat to a troop (of his own)- he draws on himself the wrath of Allah, and his abode is Hell,- an evil refuge (indeed)!" Not only does Muhammad lay down the principle that a Muslim can serve time in Hell, but failing to kill unbelievers when directed is a sure way to bring this about.
Sura (9:39) - "If ye go not forth He will afflict you with a painful doom..." It isn't enough to believe. Muhammad is telling his soldiers (who do not want to fight) that they will be sent to hell if they do not join the battle.
Sura (3:169-170) - "Think not of those who are slain in Allah's way as dead. Nay, they live, finding their sustenance in the presence of their Lord; They rejoice in the bounty provided by Allah: And with regard to those left behind, who have not yet joined them (in their bliss), the (Martyrs) glory in the fact that on them is no fear, nor have they (cause to) grieve." Martyrs go directly from life to paradise, where they wait for those who must first go through the Day of Judgment.
From the Hadith:
Muslim (20:4678) - It has been reported on the authority of Jabir that a man said: "Messenger of Allah, where shall I be if I am killed?" He replied: "In Paradise." The man threw away the dates he had in his hand and fought until he was killed (i. e. he did not wait until he could finish the dates).
Bukhari (52:46) - I heard Allah's Apostle saying, "The example of a Mujahid in Allah's Cause-- and Allah knows better who really strives in His Cause----is like a person who fasts and prays continuously. Allah guarantees that He will admit the Mujahid in His Cause into Paradise if he is killed, otherwise He will return him to his home safely with rewards and war booty."
Abu Dawud (14:2515) - I asked the Prophet (peace_be_upon_him): Who are in Paradise? He replied: Prophets are in Paradise, martyrs are in Paradise

Bukhari (52:269) - "The Prophet said, 'War is deceit.'" The context of this is thought to be the murder of Usayr ibn Zarim and his thirty unarmed men by Muhammad's men after he "guaranteed" them safe passage (see Additional Notes below).
Bukhari (52:270) - Recounts the murder of a poet, Ka'b bin al-Ashraf, at Muhammad's insistence. The men who volunteered for the assassination used dishonesty to gain Ka'b's trust, pretending that they had turned against Muhammad. This drew the victim out of his fortress, whereupon he was brutally slaughtered despite putting up a ferocious struggle for his life.

Reliance of the Traveler (p. 746) - "Lying is permissible when there is a legitimate desired end. And the legitimate desired end may be a personal one
