Afghanistan: Taliban claims control of another district

How (and from where) did the Taliban acquire those "sophisticated weapons"?

"Afghanistan: Taliban Claims Control of Helmand District," by Syed Saleem Shahzad for AKI, with thanks to Jeffrey Imm:

Karachi, 5 March (AKI) - (by Syed Saleem Shahzad) - At least 19 Afghan civilians have been killed over the past 24 hours in strikes and gunfire incidents by coalition forces in Afghanistan in response to militant attacks on NATO targets. Although NATO has said it is trying to reduce civilian casualties, the attacks look set to continue as the "spring offensive" materialises. Taliban commander Abdul Khaliq told Adnkronos International (AKI) that they have taken control of Nawzad district in Helmand province and prior to the recent attacks the Taliban distributed leaflets warning people to keep away from NATO installations or convoys.

In an interview with AKI, Taliban commander Abdul Khaliq said that with their recent seizure of the Nawzad district in the restive southern Afghan province of Helmand, their spring offensive had begun.

"There was a ceasefire in Nawzad district during the entire winter but we had taken control of all the villages and only the district headquarters was under the Karzai-backed administration, though it was also under siege by Taliban," Abdul Khaliq told AKI in a phone interview from Nawzad district. "Last Thursday, we just announced that we would break the ceasefire and walked in the headquarters without much of a fight," he said.

Over the weekend, the Afghan people were also warned by the militant group to be cautious and keep away from NATO installations.

Pamphlets were distributed all over Kandahar city by the Taliban in which people were warned to stay cautious as the Taliban would not spare any single movement of NATO troops on Afghan roads.

“We have acquired sophisticated weapons and now warn the people not to be within 100 meters on either side of any NATO installation or convoy because from now on everything will be immediate targets," the pamphlet written in Pashto said.

Good thing we are fighting terrorism and not Islam.

In case you missed this link last night, here is the real islam revealed.
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=SzQFyhFNUtE

Soon after WWII, in Helmand, the Americans built the Helmand-Argandab irrigation project bringing flowing water into the area.. In Lashkargah, the Americans built housing projects and replaced the old bazarr with 655 shops built western style, replacing the old caravansaies, this was an attempt to modernize the city..The Americans built schools and Industrial buildings and factories to process the cotton grown there..70% of the families had electricity, The Hospital had 50 beds, and the schools were the only schools in Afghanistan that had boys and girls in the same classes.

Since that time, the Muslims have erected tents and mud fences in the well designed bazarr area, in effect turning it into a slum. The river banks along the irragation project have been destroyed which has virtually destroyed the water flow..Opium has replaced the cotton and watermelon crops..Electricity is rarely working in full repair, the doctors and nurses have been either killed or run off, and the school no longer operates.

This once fertile and beautiful land had become the playground for the opium warlords....

Once again Islam does what it does best...destroy everything and make life for people miserable.

Ban Muslim Immigration now....

When Infidel armies, and legions of Infidel aid workers full of grand ideas enter a place like Afghanistan, and take no notice of the essence of the place -- Islam, and minds on Islam -- or having at long last taken notice still pretended that it doesn't matter, that things can change without changing, or weakening, the power of Islam and its hold over the minds of men, they are akin to landscape gardeners going off to the Empty Quarter of Saudi Arabia, there to pour water, and more water, into the sand, and perhaps, here and there, to attempt to lay down some very expensive peat moss from Ireland, or lush lawns cut out of the bluegrass country of Kentucky, as if somehow this could cause the Empty Quarter, even the tiniest part of it, to permanently bloom. The expense, the effort, are horrific, and horrific too the results -- in the end, nothing at all but waste.

Unless there is a recognition that it is Islam that explains the blowing up of girls' schools, Islam that explains why, whenever something goes wrong, there is an immeidate blaming of the Americans and other Infidels, from hysterical crowds shouting against them on the highway (a highway that may owe its very existence to those same Americans), to the meretricious and grasping local leaders to see the Americans only as a source of money and other handouts, and of nothing else -- not an idea or ideas about human liberty, certainly -- but that money.

So we can keep watering the stony soil, or the sands, of Dar al-Islam. And we can tell ourselves that "we have to fight them over there so we don't have to fight them over hear" but why is it, then, that the Al Qaeda still exists and thrives in Pakistan, and has in opinion polls in the Arab and Muslim world received the support of 50% of the populaton (and one can assume that if Muslis are going to lie in their responses to such questions, they will lie in only one direction, hiding their support for, or approval of, Bin Laden, in order to curry Western favor or lull Western infidels).

The Western world, the American taxpayers, are not endlessly rich. There are nuclear reactors to be built, wind and solar energy and mass transit systems to be subsidized, bridges and roads to be repaired, a health-care system that needs infusions of money, because the expense for insurance has become absurdly high, public schools in disarray, and higher education crazily expensive (and often not worth it) -- and so much else is wrong, that in some cases money can help to set, if not exactly aright, than at least less wrong -- money now being poured into those mental deserts made permanently bleak by Islam. No amount of Western watering will change Afghanistan, but without more cash, without building roads, without spending time trying to win hearts and minds that, as long as they reamin true to Islam, cannot conceivably be won by any Infidels, no matter how much good they do, one can do better for the people.

How? By allowing the conditions to be created within Afghanistan not of Infidel-delivered, and Infidel-paid-for artificial development, but by leaving Afghanistan alone, and letting those within it fight it out, in a Hobbesian state, until they finally begin to realize that that Hobbesidan state of aggression and violence is linked to, comes out of, Islam itself, with its worship of power, its insistence on the Victor and the Vanquished. Let them. Let Musliims stop being protected from the political, economic, social, moral, and intellectual failures of Islam itself. Let them see it. If it is necessary to bomb a terrorist training camp now and again, do so. But there are no doubt as many terrorist training camps now in Pakistan, which cannot be taken over (a country with 150 million people), than in Afghanistan. And for that matter, the "training" one needs for such things as the bombing of the subways in London and Madrid, or the takeover of the Moscow theatre or the school in Beslan, or even the thousands of terrorist acts commited by assorted Arabs against Israel over the past fifty years, did not require any special camps in Afghanistan. Plots can be hatched in London or Paris or Rome, and it is idiotic to take a particular case of a general phenomenon -- the Al-Qaeda camps in Afghanistan -- and argue from that the entire remote and dangerous and wild country of Afghanistan, with its warring tribes and peoples and warlords and factions, a place never held by anyone, not the British in the 19th century and not the Russians in the 20th, will somehow succumb to the American Infidels. It wouldn't, and we don't even need to try. We need only keep this or that group that intends to do mischief outside permanently at bay -- by the kind of intermittent bombing, say, that the Israelis are now conducting in Gaza.

The Western world has been expending too much money, and too many soldiers, on the wrong things. Its efforts have not been cost-effective. Partly this is a result of the inability of generals to understand that the word "war" does not always imply tanks and planes and guns, nor does it always imply that we are to "go to war" by dooing the fighting ourselves. Where is the attempt to divide and demoralize the Camp of Islam? Where is the Information War? Where is the Propaganda War? Where is the war to make sure that "they don't attack us over here" by doing the most obvious thing: halting Muslim migration, given that a certain very large proportion of any given Muslim population has shown itself willing to support and justify terrorism, and many seem hellbent on promoting the spread of Islam through Da'wa and demographic conquest and propaganda which aims to stifle all criticism (sometimes by enrolling the government in passing laws to prevent such criticism, lest it "offend Muslims" and make "our task to reach out to them" more difficult).

The thing that puzzles is not that Muslims should make every effort to spread Islam, to attack any Infidel institutions, from the laic rules of the laic state of France, and any individual Infidels, who may know too much about Islam and are too effective in presenting their views, in order to tear down all obstacles to the spread of Islam, in order to achieve, as they are duty-bound to work to achieve, a sitatuion in the former Lands of the Infidels where "Islam dominates and is not to be dominated."

No, what puzzles is why Infidels think that they, in turn, are not permitted to take the most modest of measures -- including halting Muslim migration and doing nothing to faciliate the practice, and spread, of Islam in Infidel lands -- to defend themselves, their legal and political institutions, their individual rights, their very idea of the individual, so lacking in Islam, their attempt to preserve free and skeptical inquiry instead of the habit of mental submission that Islam encourages or even inculcates.

Why don't Infidels defend themselves? Why do they think the only thing they can do is to pour hundreds of billions of dollars into making Iraq, or Afghanistan, or Egypt, or Pakistan, or the "Palestinian"-occupied territories, into places far better than they would be if the local Muslims had to rely either on themselves alone, or on aid from fabulously rich, but extraordinarily selfish, fellow Muslims.

Why?

Taliban commander Abdul Khaliq told Adnkronos International (AKI) that they have taken control of Nawzad district in Helmand province...

This is a classic example of how tough it can be to take over the world. Obviously, the Moslem activists working in Helmand Province hope to hook up with the world’s newest nation, the Islamic Emirate of Northern Waziristan. But the IENW is some 200 miles east of Helmand Province.

The history of Helmand Province is interesting. Once called Little America for all the USAID largesse ladled on the uneducated impoverished Moslems there, the province first went Commie, then Taliban, and is now seeks to make itself into a central building block of the new Caliphate.

But enough background. What’s important here is that when the Islamic Emirate of Helmand is set up is that it can be integrated with the Islamic Emirate of Northern Waziristan.

Over the mid-term, the goal is to create the United Islamic Emirates of Balocho-Pashtostan, which by then should include Southern Waziristan to the east and and Paktika, Zabol and Kandahar to the west, with Kandahar being the critical link.

Look at this situation as an objective Moslem, expanding the IENW into the UIEBP is an important vision.

Just think about it: expansive fields of heroin production in the sunny Helmand and Kandahar, sending their junkie riches east to the mountainous regions of Wazir, the perfect stronghold for training Jihad war terrorists, cooking up chemical weapons, maybe even biologicals, and, or course, one day even various types of nuclear bombs.

I see the United Islamic Emirates of Balcho-Pashtostan as the ultimate Mohammedan dream: stick-beaten women, ranting Imams, smooth young boys looking for an Islamic date, poison factories, ululating old Moslimas, nuclear bomb plants, Jihad training compounds... a place so Islamic as to make Birmingham seem Anglo in comparison.

Allahu Akbar.

Everyone:

I am erasing much of these comments. Please stay on topic, and thank you.

Cordially
Robert Spencer

Sorry Robert, I will respect your wishes.

Thanks, Robert ...

Maybe it's because as long as we are on foreign oil, most of which is own by Muslim-majority countries, we have to put up with this.

The bottom line is that with just a 5% reduction in car gasoline we would be OFF foreign oil completely. Notice that this morning Bush unveiled a plan to have Brazil, which is 60% of ALL oil, to start shipping us sugar-cane-based ethanol -- FAR superior to the corn ethanol that costs more in energy to make than it can be sold far, meaning the government has to engage in price supports. Switchgrass, or Prairie grass, is America's real answer for ethanol, but because the Plains are so good for growing food, it's better to have other countries with a better climate grow sugar cane -- IF they are countries we can trust.

And, I agree, Hugh, it's American compassion gone wrong. But all the same it's dicey withdrawing entirely while one country after another is forced under shari'a law when most Muslims are still voting against it (Indonesia, Bangladesh, Malaysia). They simply overtake more resources and enslave more people -- Christians, Jews and animists among them -- if we offer no resistance.

But we can't really "get off the gameboard" while we are dependent upon them for oil.

Hey Morgaan -- sorry for hurting you. Would you please forgive me and accept my apology?

Thanks American, but when I clicked on the icon, it didn't display an e-mail address. What am I doing wrong?

RESPONSE:

Of course. ... Now back on topic! Eteraz seems to have picked up my "questions" and put them on his website. He's going to answer them one by one. He wrote me and said he "hoped" that I would distribute his answer all over the JW website like I had plastered them in 10 threads over the weekend. I answered him in the Eteraz thread from this morning that no, I would do no such thing! I think he is trying to wear Robert out, and I also think that he was very cruel last night to sort of get on Robert's case about being "tired" and to play such a tawdry little game about Robert being Anne Crockett. He's not. Anne is just nearby and was apparently using RS's computer at the moment.

Anyhow, no hard feelings, no harm done. Let's just go forward anew.

Thanks, American!! I'll write you now.

I'm sure our military loves threats; it's so motivating. I just hope the Pentagon unleashes Hell on their asses and be done with it, once and for all !

NATO, except for America and a fine Polish contingent is nothing but fat Dutchmen, British air power which bombs it's own people and old geezers on pensions.

You will notice in the latest knocking the h*ll out of the Taliban is AMERICANS ON THE SPRING OFFENSIVE while the Brits issued negotiating orders with the Taliban.

And of course EVERYTHING the Taliban and al Qaeda says is true and EVERYTHING America says is "as reported by American statements".

NATO seems to lack a General Miles. Someone who wouldn't just wait arround for a Spring Offensive.

"NATO, except for America and a fine Polish contingent is nothing but fat Dutchmen, British air power which bombs it's own people and old geezers on pensions."

....It has happened in every modern war that the occassional "killed by friendly fire" incidents occur...they cannot be 100% prevented...It has happened to every major military on both sides....

.....I would not discredit British air power...they are on par with the best in the world....

...I would not be afraid to go into battle with them providing air cover for my narrow behind...

....They are certainly capable of eliminating air and ground targets.....

....Nato being as dilapidated as it is, may be all you have.....

Thanks, Americaningermany!! You're a good friend, and one of the coolest posters on JW!!
