GAZA (Reuters) - The Palestinian Islamist group Hamas rejected on Monday criticism by al Qaeda's second-in-command and said it was still committed to Israel's destruction despite a power-sharing deal with the Fatah faction."We will not betray promises we made to God to continue the path of Jihad and resistance until the liberation of Palestine, all of Palestine," Hamas said in a statement, in a clear reference to Israel as well as to the occupied West Bank.
In an audio recording posted on the Internet on Sunday, al Qaeda's Ayman al-Zawahri accused Hamas of serving U.S. interests by agreeing to respect past Palestinian peace accords with Israel in a recent Saudi-brokered unity government deal with moderate Palestinian President Mahmoud Abbas's Fatah.
The coalition agreement fell short of meeting demands by the Quartet of peace mediators -- the United States, the European Union, the
United Nations and Russia -- to recognize Israel, renounce violence and accept existing interim peace deals.Zawahri said the Mecca accord, which calmed weeks of Hamas-Fatah warfare in which more than 90 Palestinians were killed, was part of an attempt by Washington to offset Muslim anger at what he described as its bias toward Israel.
"It is an American scheme to hit the Islamic jihadist resistance against the Crusader-Zionist campaign. America wanted a sham solution to the Palestinian issue to remove the biggest reason for Muslim hatred (of the United States)," he said.

There is nothing new here, and were the statement not made, were in fact a different statement made, it would not matter. Those who make policy, in Washington and in Jerusalem, and in all other Western capitals, should get straight the simple notion, a notion that would be clear to all those who had bothered to think that Islam might actually explain the deepest beliefs and most profound attitudes of Muslims, as nothing else ever could. It is not possible for Muslims, if they are to remain good Muslims, to accept the existence of Israel. It is possible for some Muslim leaders to endure, temporarily, the existence of Israel, if they are aware, and can make those over whom they rule, that Israel is not only overwhelmingly powerful but that if it is attacked, the resulting damge to Muslims will be so enormous as to justify a Muslim refusal to engage in outright combat, or qitaal. That does not mean the duty of Jihad to recapture every inch or dunam of land that was ever, anywhere, under Muslim rule (no matter how fleeting, as parts of southern France), has disappeared, nor does it mean that the duty of Jihad to remove all obstacles to the spread of Islam, so that everywhere Islam dominates and Muslims rule everywhere, to ensure that the entire Dar al-Harb becomes part of Dar al-Islam, remains forever, in the uncreated and immutable texts of Islam (Qur'an, Hadith, Sira). "Islam must dominate and is not to be dominated," is what has been commanded, and that exists for all time and applies to all space, in a world that belongs to Allah, and to the best of people, the Believers.
It would be good if the time and effort wasted in the so-called "peace process" between Israel and the Arabs -- a "peace process" that consists entirely of extracting tangible surrenders of land, and getting the Israelis to engage, in the abandonment of their own legal, historic, and moral rights (according to the provisions of the Mandate for Palestine itself, according to all the rules of warfare that, for example, explain Italy's claim to the Alto Adige), sometimes without Israelis even being sufficiently aware of how strong, how overwhelming, their own claims are.
It would be good if instead the Western world turned its attention to unifying the Infidels, to perceiving the threat that Islam as a belief-system poses that cannot be ended by Jizyah-aid from the Infidels, and cannot be assuaged by this or that political or diplomatic alignment, here and there, with Muslim demands (pressure on Israel to render itself even more vulnerable than it already is and to make the odds against it even more staggerinlgly high, or on India to "compromise" over Kashmir, or on the Serbs to be treated as if they had no cause for alarm when orthodox churches are being destroyed by the dozens, or even Washinigton's fantastic squandering of money not to encourage but to prevent, Iraq from disintegrating, and to bring that country, whose people are riven with sectarian and ethnic fissures that were not caused by the Americans, but whose depth and duration were not sufficiently understood, nor the reasons why those fissures would reveal themselves as soon as the despot was removed, and that far from being a deplorable development, this should have been welcomed by the policymakers in Washington who are apparently still devoid of the slightest cunning, or the slightest ruthlessness, and want only to bring propsperity and "freedom" (a word that does not exist, as understood in the Western world, in the world of Islam) to the "ordinary moms and dads" whom Bush believes he can descry "all over the Middle East."
What nonsense we must endure. What incrediable squandering of men, money, materiel. What fantastic sums have been paid to the Arabs in OPEC, sums that might have long ago been reduced had the army of Western hirelings in the pay of Saudi Arabia not gone on for decades prating that Saudi Arabia was "our staunch ally" and would be a force for "moderation in OPEC" which was not only false, but hid the real story: that Saudi Arabia would itself spend nearly $100 billion dollars on mosques, madrasas, and campaigns of Da'wa all over the world, which is, along with demographic conquest, a development far more insidious and dangerous to the survival of the West than the terrorism that appears to be exclusive focus of those who prate, so endlessly, and so misleadingly, about this "war on terror."
