Britain’s crisis with Iran deepened last night after Tehran justified seizing 15 British servicemen by claiming that they had strayed into Iranian territorial waters “illegally”.The announcement appeared to rule out any hope that the incident was a simple mistake that could be quickly rectified.
Instead, there were growing fears that the 15 British sailors and Royal Marines were victims of a deliberate ambush on the disputed Shatt al-Arab waterway by Iranian Revolutionary Guards, perhaps seeking to use the captives as hostages in the increasingly tense stand-off between the West and Iran over its nuclear programme.
Where was the freaking Royal Navy?! One destroyer would have been enough to keep those bandits away.
Looks like someone just lit the fuse. God I hope so. We need to get this over with. I for one am tired of all the tension. I am prepared! I hope the rest of you are as well if this is it!

Ahmadinejad has now cancelled his trip to the UN which means it was deliberate, but he was not involved as he was planning on coming. He probably concluded America might detain him as war criminal.
So the Revolutionary Guard had someone sign off on them running a mission againt Brits which they have confiscated before. Apparently, the Brits surrender faster than the French, especially when their Navy is 2 rubber boats.
To be fair to France though their nuclear carrier de Gaulle entered the straits yesterday on business.

If this transforms into hostages, these Brits will be chained to Iran's nuclear structures. Then President Bush will have to decide how to scuff British soldiers with atomic jdams and keep them unharmed. Israel is even worse in being caught with ticking off the English in killing their soldier hostages.
In knowing President Bush and trigger man Gates, they are murmuring what on earth was the British military thinking allowing this to happen.
If it were me as in Vice President Cheney, I would have the RAF send several cruise missiles to Ahmadinejad's quarters and inform Iran the troops are returned immediately as England will not be held hostage and this is viewed as an act of war against Great Britain and an attack on NATO.
This triggers NATO which means America and that nice French carrier to level Iran and take the southern oil fields as Newranistan, the newest middle east nation in love with the west.
Iran does nothing it gets neutralized and if Iran reacts it gets laid waste.
As a footnote: None of this would be happening if Carter had simply supported the Shah or if he has simply blown the bajesus out of Iran when they took our people hostage. People talk of Iranian deals with Reagan.......his deal was like Eisenhowers message to North Korea and China during the Korean War. Either settle it or we will nuke you.

At one point, a knife was put to the throat of Father Methodios, as his attackers demanded that he close the Churches in the Boyolali area of Central Java. It should be noted that there is a thriving ministry in this area.
A large group of Muslim protestors has gathered in the Church area and continues making demands upon Father Methodios and the Church community. The attackers are not from Boyolali, as local Christians and Muslims have joined in showing their support for Father Methodios, who is noted for the love and compassion he has shown all people in the area. Father Methodios and his family have been forced to leave their home, as their lives have now been threatened. The attackers have also promised to purge the area of Christians.
Metropolitan Nikitas has not been able to contact Father Methodios directly, although he is in constant communication with other clergy in Indonesia. He has requested that people pray for peace and an end to the violence and attacks upon the Church community."

One of the biggest problems of that waterway is that you can't get large warships up it. It wouldn't provide a decent turning circle for them, therefore armed rubber dinghies are used. The Iranians know that. But it is time the Iranians were told in no uncertain terms that what they're doing is an act of war and that if they do not release these troops within 24 hours, then we will start destroying their cities. You have to be firm with them.
Hopefully the vermin of the Islamic Revolution led by that rat-in-a-suit Mahmoud Ahmadinejad have set themselves on a path of confrontation with the civilised world that can only end with the Revolutionary Guard being blasted from the deserts to mountains and finally all drowned like the rats they are in the Mâzandarân Sea.
Although I am surprised and dissapointed that HMS Cornwall, as far as can be discerned, did nothing to attempt to prevent the abduction of the British Royal Navy sailors, its own sailors, I suspect that this was a painful decision for it's Commandore under orders from the Iraqi Government (yeah I know... the irony) and the Coalition Military hierarchy not to escalate any situation in the Persian Gulf.
More to the point we should resist the urge to use this incident as an opportunity for 'Brit bashing'. The British armed forces has to match the commitments forced upon it by their staggeringly incompetent government with the money men and equipment available to it in 'peacetime'. HM Treasury is reluctant to accept that the UK is caught up on a war in to fronts. Of those two fronts Helmand Province is in the active war fighting phase while Basrah is in the 'sitting in barracks whilst being sniped at the ungrateful wretches they were sent to defend phase'. Since it is not politically expedient to flatten Basrah, as the city so richly merits, it is better for the British Army to get out and focus on fighting the Taliban (which was the war that the world should have been focusing on post 9/11 instead of the American government feeling the need to hurl itself into a sectarian quagmire for no good cause). Incidentally the average British 'squaddie' perhaps unwittingly shares the opinion of our own dear Hugh that the Arabs should be left to get on with that which they do best, murdering each other.

Ardashir Khan your statement makes we think, perhaps was this set up by the Brits to get into a war with Iran? Otherwise the folly of having these guys go into this area without fire power is very incompetetent and l therefore l would worry more about the British Navy and military minds gone soft and stupid. Either way it is sad state of affairs, especially when the iranians were very vocal about getting back at the Brits/Us for their missing generals in Turkey and Iraq.

For the record, the firepower from HMS Cornwall, was more than capable of dealing with this and preventing it. However who wrote the rules of engagement that the RN are operating under? That is whats to blame, the bit that says "you may not fire on Iranian forces under any circumstances" I will hazard that this was written in Washington, I will also hazard a guess that it applies to your (US) Forces as well. I am in this fight against Islamism to the end, I support the USA and have a genuine love for the American people, who have been our greatest friends and allies for many years now. One thing that strikes me as odd about this whole incident is this. The Iranians seemed to have very good intelligence on this, and were able to "appear almost out of nowhere" to capture our guys. I seem to remember hearing on the news that this operation was being conducted in co-operation with the Iraqi authorities. Seems perhaps those good shia Mozzies had a little word with their lords and masters over the border.
