"Dogu Perincek's case has strained Swiss-Turkish relations." Laws like this are silly, but denial of the Armenian genocide is a Turkish pathology that needs to be confronted. From the BBC, with thanks to all who sent this in:
A Swiss court has convicted a Turkish politician of racial discrimination for denying that mass killings of Armenians in Turkey in 1915 amounted to genocide.Nationalist leader Dogu Perincek, 65, was on trial for remarks he made in a public speech in Lausanne in 2005.
He was given a suspended sentence and fined $2,450 (£1,270).
The Swiss parliament, along with more than a dozen countries, has labelled the killings as genocide. Turkey firmly rejects the genocide allegation.
Perincek, the head of the Turkish Workers' Party, had denied the charges.
"I have not denied genocide because there was no genocide," he told the court earlier this week.
So sad so many people refute their own history....In the US we have have a civil war, the kkk, McCarthy, and other episodes, but we do not deny any of it.....if it was wrong, we strive to correct it, if it was good , we strive to improve it....
...Is this Turk so ashamed of the history of his country that he denies it?....Is he ashamed he may be associated with it?....Is he following the teachings of his local slavemaster?....or is he just ignorant.....?
I have mixed feelings on this one. I find the Turks that deny this ridiculous, but I've always found these type of laws just as ridiculous.
We in the west hold freedom of speech dear to our hearts, and I find any law like this as contrary to freedom of speech. This same type of PC law can one day turn around and tell you and me that we can't post our feelings on Islam on the web, what would we think of it then?
Abolish these stupid laws, they eventually will work against us.
From someone who undeniably can't stand the Turkish state and many of its followers.
The fanatic, I wholeheartedly agree. Freedom of speech means that people are allowed to say stupid things. They are allowed to state an opinion no matter how un-PC it is. However, we in the US are facing a challenge. Although there are no laws that require us to parrot a certain government opinion, there are those who attempt to mold our speech to fit some notion about a Religion of Peace.
i heard that Turkey banned youtube from turkey for people attacking attaturk on that site theres no free speech in turkey
Someone at the BBC must be due a nice bonus as they managed to avoid using the words muslim and
genocide in the same item !
The Turks are stubborn as mules when it comes to the Armenian genocide. My guess is that since they don't pass it off as an Ottoman affair that has nothing to do with the post-Ottoman republican era the Turks must be proud of this atrocity (to say as much would not sound good so denying it ever happened is the next best thing). If that's the case, then they are indeed Muslims in good standing. Perhaps they would like to be lords of the ummah again in the future and having this act of ethnic cleasing on their resume would be a nice credential in the twisted universe that Islamania exists in.

I don't know that that is true. The formula seems to be merely that such things are perceived as negatively portraying Islam, and it doesn't matter to them whether it is true or not.
Elias In turkey they banned youtube for users making a video about attaturk but on youtue they have turkish videos insulting greeks i dont see greece banning youtube on youtibe theres loads of anti greek video clips by turks
and i agree with you they should have laws in europe for people denying the armenian greek assyrian genocide if turkey has laws for people who say there was a genocide.
i just went on youtube to look at the video that called attaturk a faggot and they removed it youtube are so pathetic

Nope, none of those. He is likely to be Muslim and it is always in Muslims interests to deny past agressions, to forget about them as quickly as possible.

Yup. The BBC admits it is hideously white and liberal. I saw a recent newspaper article by a BBC member who happens to be Conservative in leaning (for the US people, read: Republican).
Of the few times he had shared his opinion there was almost an embarassed silence and poeple rushed to fill the void. At the end of the article he called for all shades of political opinion to be represented at the BBC.
The BBC is no longer just presenting news as it did. it now operates a policy of political correctness and sanitises its news.
When the Muslims rioted in France in Summer 2005 and there was car burning most nights, it was hilarious to see that BBC articles never once mentioned their faith.
The BBC is definitely operating a policy to avoid mentioning the word "Muslim" or "Islam" in a negative context (even when it would be honest). The only they mention it, is to convey the benefits and riches of the Islamic culture.
