SANAA, Yemen: At least four Yemenis and a French man were injured in clashes Sunday between local and foreign workers at a gas plant in Yemen, prompting government troops to intervene to restore calm, security officials said.The violence began when a French employee at a natural gas liquefaction plant being constructed by Yemen LNG in the coastal city of Balhaf threw a copy of the Koran, Islam's holy book, on the ground, a move that angered Yemeni workers at the plant site, the Yemeni officials said, speaking on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media.
The enraged Yemenis reacted by attacking the French employee and setting fire to a helicopter and a large number of vehicles inside the plant site, the officials said.
Four Yemeni workers and the French man were injured in the melee, the officials added.
The Yemenis also tried to attack expatriate workers in their camp inside the plant site but were pushed back by Yemeni troops who intervened with tanks and armored vehicles to contain the violence and restore calm.

I have said before that it needs to be looked after by storiing on the highest cleanest shelf in the house /platform.
Having said that having the koran on a natural gas liquefaction plant /petrol garage/nucleur plant/munitions supply store is probably not the best idea.
It has to be well looked after ....kaffur simply cannot do that ....every word of that book for most muslims is worth more than their lives.
You simply have to respect it in these situations...is that asking for too much?
Bibliolatry has its limits. It may be that in the medieval period some Christians of the most credulous and primitive variety, had a taboo on non-Christians touching or "mishandling" the Bible, but certainly in the modern world that does not happen any more.
There was a well-known figure who, Americans have been taught, took scissors not to one but to at least two Bibles (because the print was on both sides), and simply cut them up, taking the passages he liked, and pasting them on page and after page, to construct a Bible that preserved the moral instructions but left out what he considered to reflect mere credulity.
That man was Thomas Jefferson.
As far as I know no one, in his time or at any time since, has suggested that for this act of scissors-and-paste line-editing he deserved to be decapitated, or Monticello burned to the ground.
Had he been a Muslim, and had he done that to the Qur'an, that is exactly what would have happened.
It's the old "infidels desecrated the Koran" excuse to start a round of violence. The easiest example of this is the violence and protests that happened at Camp Gitmo after soldiers supposedly flushed pages of the Koran down the toilet. In Islamic countries, Muslims routinely use the "you are dissing the Koran" ploy to have non-Muslims arrested, their businesses looted and any nearly church ransacked. No matter how outrageous the claim, the non-Muslim is usually charged and convicted of these bogus charges...and, think what the Muslims got out of it in Cuba. US soldiers now handle the Koran with white gloves. It works; the Yemeni workers know that too. There is probably another work issue involved there, but the workers knew the fastest road to concessions and public sympathy.

Watching Moses (in the Ten Commandments) throw the tablets down as a youngster I always feared dropping the Bible would cause an earthquake. Growing up, wisdom revealed that the words themselves held more relevance than the parchment they were written on.
It never fails to amaze me how powerless a god, Allah must be to depend on humans to defend Islam (as havekoranwilltravel noted.) It is taken for granted that similar reactions in Judeo-Christian cultures would rarely be found (I am talking about CURRENT cultures for all you historical revisionists.)
It only goes to show that the Mohammedans ARE the god in Islam. Without them forcing the religion down the throats of non-Mohammedans, we would only be reading about how horrible a religion it was than seeing it now for our own eyes.
Of course, we would be reading about it because we know that the world began well before Mohammed created Islam and will continue for long after it has been properly weighed. Therefore there is no need to destroy or deny archeological and historical evidence of its existence. Some lessons need to be remembered for all time.

Who the hell knows what happened? All that is apparent is there was some violence in Yemen and it could have been precipitated by almost anything..rumors..imagination or nothing at all. I would bet money that it was a rumor but I actually don't care that much. This is just another pathetic example of the middle east mentality...sort of like on the 5 pm news flash about the zoo lion keeper who is attacked when he enters the cage to feed the animals...yawn.

The Turks have used bibles for years as toilet paper. Any bible found in a monastery or church that fell into the hands of Turks were used as such, or burned.
Also the Palestinian guys who were chased by the IDF several years ago and ended up inside the church of nativity (Jesus birth place). Well the supporters of peace and tolerance drank all the holy wine, crapped on the floors, and at least one report desecrated a bible.
Result no be-headings of Muslims by Christians, no mass riots banging our heads and chests, no calling for death to Muslims, just a lot of disgust towards your people.

As one poster abover noted, who can say what really happened. How many times before has "desecration of the Qur'an" been used as a pretext for violence. So what really happened?
Was the Frenchman, as noted by still another poster above, truly studying the book? If so, then why wasn't more leniency shown by the mobs?
Perhaps he studied the book and found it wanting, and either dropped it out of carelessness or for the benefit of a traveling troupe of flamenco dancers, either of which I find highly unlikely given the well understood Moslem capacity to find offense and to act out on it with cruel and unusual vigor.
Was the Frenchman in possession of something that certain members of the local Ummah decided they had need of? An undue level of influence in matters, for instance, with local leaders that others may have taken umbrage with? Was this incident concocted for the purpose of cutting the legs out from underneath such influence, figuratively speaking? Or was it a way of separating an investment from the investor?
Who knows what the real situation is? Islamic outrage appears to run on fumes, which in turn appear to be largely of its own making. Violence appears to be the drug of choice for many of these people. When one is addicted, one frequently manages to find a reason for being addicted.

At work one day, they were having a spring clean, getting rid of stuff. A few others and I saw a Muslim throw a Bible in the bin. My co-worker, simply removed it, and asked him not to do that sort of thing because it's our holy book.
That was the end of story, no riots, no one getting beaten to death, no flag burning, no buildings set on fire, no death threats, no screaming mobs baying for blood.
Such a reaction over here would cause one to wonder about their mental stability.

the typical French citizen l am sure would all like to throw the koran down the sewer hole from which it sprang. we must understand that the liberal educated elites of the EU, and US are totally blind and have no more sense. but the Joe on the street, will make the difference to kick out islamist from their midst. wake up naseems when more Westerners begin to understand that the koran is a book of death and submission of the human spirit.
