BERLIN (Reuters) - The U.S. embassy in Germany said on Friday it was boosting security at its facilities in response to what it described as an increased threat of terrorism there.
Neither U.S. nor German officials would provide specific details, but one diplomat said the steps were taken to guard against a particular threat and two newspapers reported that Iraqi militants were scouting U.S. facilities in Germany.
"U.S. diplomatic and consular facilities in Germany are increasing their security posture," the embassy said in a statement sent by email.
"We are taking these steps in response to a heightened threat situation. The U.S. embassy encourages Americans in Germany to increase their vigilance and take appropriate steps to bolster their own personal security."
An official at the embassy said the announcement was related to an increased threat of terrorism, citing recent warnings by Germany's BKA federal police.
This view was echoed by U.S. State Department spokesman Tom Casey, who said in Washington he was not aware of any specific, credible threat that led the embassy to issue its warning.
Germany's interior ministry said the tightening of security came amidst signs that U.S. facilities were at higher risk.
"German security officials share these concerns and have been working closely with the U.S. side to ensure appropriate measures are taken," it said in a statement.
Germany, which holds the rotating presidency of the European Union, has not recently suffered a major attack like Spain and Britain, but government and intelligence officials have urged vigilance in recent months.
DANGER LEVEL HIGH
This week a German newspaper quoted Interior Minister Wolfgang Schaeuble as saying the threat of attacks by Islamist militants had increased in past months and become more specific.
"The danger level is high," Schaeuble said.
According to Germany's Tagesspiegel newspaper, U.S. intelligence services warned this month that members of Ansar al Sunna, an Islamist group fighting the U.S. occupation in Iraq, had conducted surveillance on U.S. sites in southern Germany.
Asked about the Tagesspiegel report, the State Department's Casey said: "Never heard of that, sorry."
Die Welt newspaper cited security sources as saying that German and U.S. intelligence services had received new information relating to possible attacks on U.S. facilities in Germany by Iraqi militants.

Thought Germans were better at security than the UK guys. I was once stationed in Germany, and learnt some German. Really nice place and great people. They know how to enjoy life. Back then it was not plagued by the Muslims (Turks kept the country clean)unlike some parts of the states.

The poster claiming to be a Muslim and calling himself Abdullah is encouraging and praising terrorism. In Denmark, this is a crime. I've also heard that in Canada, the same may soon become part of an expanded definition of "hate speech crime". Although such "sentiments" as cheering on 9/11, etc., seem to be "protected" in the United States under the First Amendment (ditto for praising terrorist acts) -- not all Western countries are as lenient. (I'm not even all that sure about the UK...I believe arrests have been made for those wearing T-shirts with slogans supporting bin Laden). (My personal preference is more libertarian -- I support the First Amendment, so long as it does not slide into criminal speech, such as threats of violence against individuals, etc.)

In much the same way as a vicious dog. I know exactly what the dog is, it doesn't try to hide its intent. I know what must be done in order to prevent an attack. I respect the dog for what it is.
The dog's owner however is a very different matter. He is responsible for controlling the dog, for not letting it run around in public and attacking people. He knows how vicious it is yet claims "it is Dog of Peace." Every time the dog attacks innocent citizens he issues a public proclamation saying "There is nothing to indicate the Dog of Peace attacked anyone" while simultaneously collecting and sanitizing all evidence of the attack.

I'm all for sending such people to their real homes. Win-win situation for both of us. They get their 72 houris + 144 young boys (did I get the numbers right ?) and we Infidels can then proceed with our humdrum lives. Somebody, anybody, send them to their real home.

Some people want to never see your face again, but think of all the insight into the mind of some Muslims (not to mention the comedic value) we would lose.
It shouldn't come as any surprise why Islamism, Nazism, Liberalism...any form of fascism mystically merge as allies against any Judeo-Christian influenced within nations. The bible is so plainly obvious concerning there is only two spiritual realities...one is either looking to YHWH's light or satan's fake glow-enchanting-deception.

Noticing that terrorism is passion fruit of Islam, its all too easy to identify which spirit its of...unmasking the Murder Cult is far too easy. Their actions speak louder than any mantra they spew to somehow try to confuse us, but it sure works with liberals...because they feel the same spiritual magnet tugging on the inside.
All these examples of the Murder Cult's fruitful actions we see here on Jihadwatch day after day should enrage us to action...this kind of action.

Lots of great postings this time. Some quick thoughts about Germany and terror. I live in Germany, been here since 1997. Neither do I wish to protect the germans nor do I wish to criticize them. I am a welcome guest in their country and happy with my work here. So, when you read my comments, understand the neutrality with which I try to write:
1.) Terrorists can get in and out of Germany just as easily as they can still get in and out of the USA, as both lands are free and functioning republics based on democratic principles. Germany is, of course, this way thanks to the example of the USA after WWII. You can do your best to keep the terrorist vermin out, but unless you are willing to change the constitutions of both lands, it is practically impossible to keep every one of them out. We all know how good islamofaschists are at cloaking themselves.
2.) The germans themselves have enacted the american guidelines for protecting american institutions and property in Germany very quickly, as soon as the warning came out. Before you want to jump to trash Germany, remember that there are also german police and military helping to protect our institutions in this land.
3.) There is a wacky left-wing movement here that just loves to hate America and americans, but there are just as many germans (or more) who still remember to whom the thanks goes for the freedoms they enjoy. Because bad news sells more newspapers, we americans do not hear from the silent majority of Germans.
4.) Take it as a sign of how horrible the islamic world is when the NPD (the german neo-nazi party, which the government is still trying to outlaw) is in cahoots with muslims. I believe that George W. Bush was absolutely right when he said that "freedom is God's gift to all of mankind" and that there is such a thing as pure evil. We are seeing pure evil at the heart of the islamic world.
3.) The fact that such a person as this cowardly Abdullah is allowed to post here is a credit to our free and open society, where the power of reason and debate is much more powerful and more lasting than the primitive methods of islamofaschists. So, they can spit and threaten all they want, but the universal principles of freedom and self-determination and love of neighbor will still be here long after this islamofaschistic scum is dead and in the grave.
The question that should more be asked (and answered) is: why are the terrorists all of a sudden picking Germany to terrorize? I believe that they hope to make the milk sour enough to get Germany to pull out of Afghanistan, which will not happen as long as Merkel is chancellor. But they know that the next national elections are in 2009, so they are starting their campaign of terror now.
Foehammer, you are not the only only in utter dismay of Islam. "And all the world will believe a great lie" (Revelations). Endtimes? Who knows...
Arm A. Geddon your ananolgy is baffling, dogs do not attack for no reson, expect whey you have dogs so inbred on prey drive such as pits, and even those
l can read, and control them without their owners. l would never compare a truthful "vicious dog" to any pious muslim or his appologist. Dogs are on a much higher level of honesty and integrity than any islamist or muslim appologist. There are always logical reasons for most dog attacks, where as there in no logic in islam. going back to the thread,the German people need to give a wake up call to their politicians, and get rid of this islamist menace in their midst. like all Western /non muslim nations.
Of course Abdullah, and Naseem (if genuine) *must* be allowed to continue posting here.
They provide the best, most immediate education about the ruinous effects of Islamic ideology on human spirit and intellect.

Sorry, but I must disagree with you . Not all dog bites are the responsibility of the owners. I have a German Shepard named Gus and while at a rest area in Kentucky, two islamites started to pray while down on all 4s, as they do, but only a few feet away. When Gus went over to them one of the prayers slapped Gus on the side of the face. The dog didn't know if they were playing or not so he stood his ground. The same fellow slapped at him again, but this time Gus took a chunk from the side of his hand, nothing much, but enough to get the islamites attention. This all happened in 10-15 seconds, so there was little time to call Gus to heel. The police were called by the abusers and when the State Police came they cited the muslims for abuse, and not Gus for defending himself, as he was on a lead at all times. The injury only took a few stitches to close, but it could have been far worse. Gus is not a vicious dog, but now there is something about muslims that causes him to react, and as I live next door to 3 muslim families he must be controlled all the time now.
I have worked at bases in Germany and I am fully aware of the security. I won’t describe my experiences here for security reasons, but any soldiers on here will know what I mean.
