The story of Daniel Aljughaifi follows a trajectory we have seen in other converts, such as John Walker Lindh and Adam Gadahn.

METHUEN -- Daniel Maldonado, a slender young man in his early 20s with tattoos and dreadlocks, entered the Selimiye Mosque in a densely populated neighborhood of central Methuen with a humble request for help converting to Islam.But as his commitment to ever purer, more intense religious observance deepened over the next several years, he became critical of other Muslims' observance of the faith, until the imam who helped him convert told him to refrain from judging others or to leave the mosque.
Maldonado, on the road to the Islamic fundamentalism that would ultimately lead him to Somalia, decided to leave.
Soner Uguz knew Maldonado, who has taken the name Daniel Aljughaifi, from the beginning of his journey into Islam.
"I met Danny the week he converted, about seven years ago," said Uguz, identified by worshipers at the mosque yesterday as Maldonado's best friend. "He was cool. He dressed in T-shirts and jeans and didn't hide any of his tattoos. His hair was in dreadlocks. He was eager, and he had a lot of questions."
All that changed radically.
Last week in a federal court in Houston, where he had been living for a while before he went overseas, Maldonado became the first US citizen to be charged with participating in terrorist activities in Somalia.
Maldonado, who grew up in Pelham, N.H., and later lived in Methuen, became immersed in Islam and attended prayer sessions regularly at Selimiye Mosque. He began wearing traditional Arab clothing, including the galabeyah, an ankle-length gown with long sleeves that covered the tattoos on his arms. He struggled to grow the beard of a religious Muslim. When he could not, he blamed his Puerto Rican heritage and began chastising fellow Muslims who could grow a full beard and chose not to.
His wife dressed in a burkah, exposing only her eyes, and wore gloves in public. The couple's daughter, a toddler at the time, wore the hijab headcovering, though under most interpretations of Muslim law this practice is required only after a girl reaches puberty. They renamed their son, Anthony, as Mohammed.
He was no longer the eager and humble young man he had been when he entered the mosque for the first time around 2000.
"He was arrogant; he knew the book [the Koran] better than anyone," Uguz said at the mosque yesterday afternoon after prayers. "He went from loving rap to hating poetry."

Maybe if young blacks like Daniel Aljughaifi were better informed about the history of Arab treatment and attitues towards Black people, they wouldn't be so quick to embrace the religion and slave names of their oppressors.
There's something very silly and tragic about the way American blacks try to identify with the Arab and Muslim worlds, but it says something about how effective Muslims have been in deceiving them into believing in an Islamic past of equality and glory -- a past that never was, and never has been.
Unless young Blacks are told the real history of Arab and Muslim involvement with Africans, we're going to see more Daniel Aljughaifis.

Excellent point rational. Islam is good at deceiving many people in many areas and decpetion is a foundation for the ideology itself.

Islam is so many wonderful things for a convert such as Danny Maldonado.

The counter-productive problem of stories like this is that it reinforces one important component of the PC multiculturalist template: the chasm that is apodictically and prejudicially supposed to exist between
a) a type of Islam that is "radical", "fundamentalist" and "extremist"
and
b) a comfortably amorphous Islam that is mainstream and harmless -- a religious right and a wonderful (because largely "ethnic" and Third World) expression of cultural diversity.
Any detectible forces or mechanisms that could link the chasm between these two Islams (or show that there is no real chasm) would, of course, serve to undermine this important component of the PC multiculturalist template -- and so any efforts at such detection and analysis therefrom are resisted.
This component seems to stem from an unwarranted superimposition of a peculiarly Western experience with one facet of religious extremism onto the non-Western -- in this case Islamic -- religion. In the modern West, we have become familiar with one type of religious (mostly, from our history, Christian) extremism that has certain features stemming from the explosion of religious zeal emanating from the Protestant Reformation and finding renewed expression in ever-modulating waves over subsequent centuries into our own modern present.
These features are all closely interlocking with one another. Here's a partial list:
a tendency toward taking "purity" to its logical extreme
a tendency toward an increasing habit of recoiling from all things in life -- whether in surrounding society or within the person's own self -- deemed to threaten that "purity"
a tendency therefore toward intensifying the "Us/Them" mentality (including with respect to lax members of one's own faith)
a tendency toward increased manifestations of religious fervor and zeal in behavior and emotions
a tendency toward going back to the original roots (the radix -- hence "radical") of the faith
a tendency to consider this original form of the faith to be more authentic than the unfolding development of those roots in subsequent history which has supposedly corrupted that original faith
a tendency, therefore, to consider the passage of time, history, human imperfection, and imperfect human contributions (including human reason) to the development of faith to be not only useless but positively malignant forces inimical to the "purity" of the "original" faith
a tendency toward literalism and inerrancy in one's relationship to the religion's holy texts
a tendency to cognitively sever the mysteriously imperfect connection between perfect divine commands and their imperfect human reception -- resulting in a paradoxical fusion of the two, or rather the eclipse of the latter and its replacement, in the mind of the believer, with the former in apodictically absolute purity, such that everything the believer has come to think about his faith becomes nothing other than God's own thoughts.
In Western history, Catholic intellectual culture served to maintain some degree of healthy rationality in the face of the explosion of irrationality wrought by the Protestant Reformation and its bewilderingly multifarious radiations. This culture of rationality, however, became mired and diluted by a wider process of secularization in the West, by which rationality became relocated in a larger more diffuse and ultimately predominant culture of relative agnosticism detaching itself from both Catholic and Reformation Christianities. One aspect of this rationality served to frustrate the religious extremist position of substituting human reason with the Divine Mind -- whereby what the religious individual has come to conclude about religious answers to existential questions become psychologically detached from all human imperfection (and therefore from the individual's humanity) and endowed with the omnipotence and omniscience of God.
This prevailing modern Western culture of secularism and agnosticism has developed, based on its own historical experience, an analysis of Religion as composed of two levels:
1) a mainstream body that is relatively normal and accomodating to secularism
2) tendencies that deviate off of the main body as pathological extremisms of one degree or another: the renegade preacher of a lone church set in a swamp in the Deep South who handles snakes and believes the IRS is the "mark of the Beast" and that rock and roll is an abomination is not to be confused with the more staid and reasonable chapters of the Southern Baptist Church whose members are fairly mellow and modernizable. Etc.
At any rate, one of our problems is the modern Western tendency to superimpose this structure onto Islam and assume that Islam must follow this structure. All questions and investigations that seem to lead to upsetting the Box of this structure and all its prejudicial assumptions are prohibited -- particularly those that lead to the possibility that Islam itself is a culture of extremism, and that moderation and mellowness, rather than being the norm, are themselves aberrations whose causes are extraneous to Islam.
According to the PC multiculturalist template, it is the minority of extremists who are shaped and motivated by extraneous cultural, political and economic forces. The possibility that it is the other way around -- that wherever we see a dilution and attenuation of extremism in the Muslim world, it is due to extraneous (and often superficial) cultural, political and economic forces -- runs so diametrically counter to the structure of this important component of the PC multiculturalist template, that it is rejected out of hand, and all attempts at introducing it for discussion are dismissed as "bigoted" and worse.
There is the further wrinkle peculiar to Islam whereby a significant proportion of the ostensibly mellow moderation of Muslims is due to a specific culture of calculated deceitfulness directly related to the supremacist goals of of Islamic jihad wheresoever Muslims perceive themselves to be too weak to be candid about those goals. Thus, we Infidels can never be sure if the fellow Muslims who found the extermism of "Danny" Maldonado strange are themselves Muslims whose extremist Islam has become effectively (albeit temporarily) diluted by extraneous forces, or whether they are simply trying to cover up the logical extrapolations of the normal extremism of Islam which are not supposed to become visible to Infidel eyes yet.
People are getting what they wanted in "getting out of Iraq" and "putting in resources in other places".
Moldonado was contained in Somalia just as terrorists were contained in Iraq in drawing them in.
People bitched loud enough and the President instead of sound policy which scoffers said, "The Muslims will kill each other", now have Muslims returning to AMERICA and other nations when flushed out of Iraq and Somalia.
For every Moldonado there are 1000 more going to carry out Cho acts and worse.

Also, is there a reasonable end in sight for this war or is the timetable simply "until the job is done"?

Why would a black person, especially an American black person, who should by all rights hate slavery of any type, involve themselves in a religion that makes them Abdallahs. Slaves to Allah.
