Gates Says U.S. Will Sell Advanced Bombs To Saudi Arabia

John VI Cantacuzenes Alert. Israel has every reason to deplore this.

By Ryan R. Jones for All Headline News, with thanks to Nariz:

Jerusalem, Israel (AHN) - Visiting U.S. Secretary of Defense Robert Gates on Thursday told his Israeli hosts that the Bush administration will go forward with the sale of smart bombs to Saudi Arabia, despite Jerusalem's protests.

Israel fears Saudi's possession of the weapons will erode its qualitative military edge in the region, and has argued that if the current regime in Riyadh is overthrown - not an uncommon occurrence in the Middle East - the highly-accurate Joint Direct Attack Munition (JDAM) bombs could reach the hands of extremists.

Gates sought to allay the Israeli concerns, insisting that Washington remains committed to the Jewish state's military edge over neighbors that have three times tried to destroy it.

In remarks carried by The Jerusalem Post, Gates said Israel should see the deal in terms of the "overall strategic environment," supporting earlier reports that the JDAM sale to Saudi Arabia and other Gulf states is meant to bolster regional opponents of Iran's growing influence.

We may as well sell the Saudis Zyklon-B and tell Israel it is nothing they should concern themselves with. It is so absurd that the government that runs this country, that pushes the message of "Defense of Democracies", has no clue what is really going on. Western democracies are absolutely clueless. The Saud Family's heads could end up on pikes any day now.....and then what???? I have been trying to monitor how are government deals with the ideology of jihad and have come to realize that C-Span is more frightening to watch than Al-Jazeera. At least Al-Jazeera knows what they are doing. Lawmakers in Washington don't have a clue.

Every week, sometimes every day, the complete delusion of today's Washington with regards to Saudi Arabia is demonstrated. Oh yes, let's give high tech missles to another fascist state run by islamic fanatics. Let's sell them whatever they want. They're our "friends" -- no harm can come of it. Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain...

Truly, the ignorance and short-sightedness of George W. Bush and his government, and its endless cost to the American tax-payer and soldier alike, seems to know no bounds.

George Bush the dim-witted loyal Labrador Retriever on one side, Nancy Pelosi the scatter-brained Yorshire Terrier, on the other. The thinking American in the middle -- doomed without a party or a politician to support as the whole thing falls apart.

why do the american people allow this? the mass outcry from ordinary americans over the british sailors fiasco was embarrassing for the british, yet this is 100 times worse for you!

you are actually selling bombs to a wahabbi regime? a nasty regime that was possibly involved in giving america a kick in the balls on 9/11.

wake up americans!

As I commented over on my blog ..

"Its like planting a tree and watching it grow for 20 years while spending all your time weaving a thick rope ..."

Come Gates is a tool of the man in charge. There is only one many to blame for this...

George W. Bush.

Many he is really testing that Jimmy Carter barrier of bad presidents.

Keep it up Georgicus Maximus!

Well, I dunno. Is the US playing funny-buggers, making some $$$$, or hedging its bets? Any ideas, anyone?

US eyes $77m bomb sale to IsraelBy Jim Wolf in Washington

"April 21, 2007 12:18pm
Article from: Reuters.
THE Bush administration has announced today what would be the first officially disclosed sale of US military equipment to Israel since the end of Israel's armed conflict with Lebanon in 2006."

Pero, que es lo que esta pasando aqui! Estos Americanos estan locos!

Are AMericans fighting a war on terror or not?

What's the point of TAP?

All the governments now are making deals with arab countries?

Well, we, middle-calls were doing too good in the last century - sort of getting too big for our britches. Now, the governments are determined to take us down.

ONE WAY OR THE OTHER!

Si o no?

P.S. This includes the insidious mex-can. highway that will split the country in half. Thus preventing us from joining in the coming struggle. Did I not say Think Tank (the gov. know what they're doing.

And for you, that foolishly, want the Border Wall in the South, don't think it's for our benefit. It's to prevent us running. Running, to fight another day!

It's to keep us in.

WE HAVE BEEN BETRAYED BIG TIME!

As I said before, I'd rather take my chances with little Mexican peasant - illegals and all- coming in - than islamics.

Mexican illegals trumps islamics.

Thank you very much.

No weapons to crypto-terrorist regimes!

No weapons to Saudi Arabia!

Until a church or synagogue or Hindu temple is allowed to be built in absolutely-intolerant Saudi Arabia, none of our military technology should be allowed to go there.

Stop these arms sales to our covert sworn enemy now!

Excellent idea profitsbeard !

Here is my somewhat angry email

president@whitehouse.gov

I am extremely upset with the announcement from Bill Gates that we are going to sell smart bombs to our mortal enemy. Where is the logic in this? The Saudi's run an anti-western regime based on islamofacism and finance the spreading if those evil ideas throughout the world. There is no freedom of non-muslims in SA. Until we see some honest reform and respect for human rights in Saudi Arabia, I don't think we should even consider them alies. The only place I would like to see smart bombs in Saudi Arabia would be over Mecca and Medina. That alone might advance a free world victory over this malignant tumor that is tearing the world apart.

The earth beneath your saud friends will shake like an earthquaqe when the Hijazi people of the arab peninsula change what is within themselves

Abdullah,

Does that mean they renounce their false moon god and embrace a real religion like Judaism or Christianity? Other than that, I only see further violence.

Oh, and please remember, the US military has been avoiding civilian casualites in Iraq. If we want to wipe out islam, we can, TOMORROW!!! Please remember that. We have the power to do that. Keep pushing and you'll find the point of Hiroshima, Hamburg, Nagasaki, Dresden, etc...

Yours in Christ,
Karl

"Pay no attention to the man behind the curtain..."

lol, good reference.

Texas Infidel-

The more ways it is said, by the more unique voices, the more chance there is that one of the screeners of the whitehouse emails might actually let a drop of it eke upstairs.

Keep it short, and RAGE against this suicidal stupidity.

Smart bombs for hostile idiots?

Brilliant!

(I wish Jackie Mason would play the White House and riff on this. "Smart bombs for Saudi Arabia? I thought we saw already 19 of their 'smart bombs' on 9/11? (breaks into a variant of Frank Sinatra's signature song:) I did it Oy Vey!")

Do tell us all Abdullah, what it is that needs to be changed amonst the Hijazi people of the Arabian Peninsula?

“…US Secretary of Defense Robert Gates…”

Defense? Hardly.
Secretary? Probably.

“Gates, come in here. I have a letter to dictate.”

president@whitehouse.gov

Dear Mr. President,

Why are you sending smart bombs to Saudi Arabia? In your own words we are at war with “terror” and Saudi Arabia, a major sponsor of the terror that plagues us, is the last place we should be sending bombs. They are the enemy Sir. Many countries are now showing signs of the Islamic cancer. We show signs of the infection as well. Please wake from your sleep before it is too late.

Regards,
'butterfly'

Surely, surely these "smart" bombs are for show only, and have a little tiny glitch programmed in (say, meters vs. feet) that will cause them to self-destruct or veer wildly off-target if actually used - please tell me we have that much sense of self-preservation in the Government??

On the other hand, I was reading some time back that the Bushes and Prince Bandar of Saudi Arabia were such good friends that they were calling Bandar the "other Bush brother". Maybe our Pres really thinks he can trust the Saudis, and it was only a tragic accident that 19 of them flew into the World Trade Center, like it's only a tragic coincidence that they fund all these Wahabbi madrassas around the world which produce so many jihadists who tragically misunderstand the peaceful nature of Islam...

Texasinfidel: I know it is too late but your e-mail said "BILL GATES", the idiots name is "ROBERT GATES"

Just thought you should know!

My mistake, I was so pissed off.

BUSH'S PERSONAL FINANCIAL TIES TO SAUDIS RUN DEEP: According to various sources, Bush has been awash in Saudi money for years. Journalist/author Craig Unger in his new book "House of Bush, House of Saud" traced millions "in investments and contracts that went from the Saudis over the past 20 years to companies in which the Bushes and their allies have had prominent positions - Harken Energy, Halliburton, and the Carlyle Group among them." According to the Boston Herald, that includes a $1 million gift from Prince Bandar to the Bush Presidential Library in Texas.
WAS BCCI'S INDICTED PRINCIPAL A BUSH BUSINESS BACKER?: Author Kevin Phillips, a top Republican strategist under President Nixon, reported in his new book, "Bush made his first connection in the late 1970s with James Bath, a Texas businessmen who served as the North American representative for two rich Saudis (and Osama bin Laden relatives) - billionaire Salem bin Laden and banker and BCCI insider Khalid bin Mahfouz. Bath put $50,000 into Bush's 1979 Arbusto oil partnership, probably using bin Laden-bin Mahfouz funds." Also of interest: Former CIA Director James Woolsey testified to the Senate on 9/3/98 that Mafouz's sister was married to Osama bin Laden. And according to the conservative American Spectator, "Bush has given conflicting statements about Bath's investment in Arbusto, finally admitting to the Wall Street Journal that he was aware that Bath represented Saudi investors."
BUSH CAMPAIGN TIES TO THE SAUDIS: A 12/11/01 Boston Herald report found that "a powerful Washington, D.C., law firm with unusually close ties to the White House has earned hefty fees representing controversial Saudi billionaires as well as a Texas-based Islamic charity fingered last week as a terrorist front." The influential law firm of Akin, Gump, whose partners "include one of President Bush's closest Texas friends, James C. Langdon, and Bush fundraiser George R. Salem," has represented three wealthy Saudi businessmen – BCCI's Mahfouz, Mohammed Hussein Al-Amoudi and Salah Idris – "who have been scrutinized by U.S. authorities for possible involvement in financing Osama bin Laden and his terrorist network."
WHY THESE TIES ARE IMPORTANT: Charles Lewis, executive director of the Center for Public Integrity, told the Boston Herald "that these intricate personal and financial links have led to virtual silence in the administration on Saudi Arabia's failings in dealing with terrorists like bin Laden" and in oil policy. He said, "It's good old fashioned 'I'll scratch your back, you scratch mine.' You have former U.S. officials, former presidents, aides to the current president, a long line of people who are tight with the Saudis, people who are the pillars of American society and officialdom. So for that and other reasons no one wants to alienate the Saudis, and we are willing to basically ignore inconvenient truths that might otherwise cause our blood to boil. We basically look away. Folks don't like to stop the gravy train." see http://www.americanprogress.org/site/pp.asp?c=biJRJ8OVF&b=99415

The solution to bring back U.S.A. prosperity and real democratic representation not bought by BIG OIL & SPECIAL INTERESTS is 5 Constitutional Amendments:

#1. Balanced Trade: #2. Public Financing of All Political Elections: #3 National Referendum Votes: #4 Environmental & Worker's Human Rights Amendment. 5. #5. No Child Or Adult shall be entitled to citizenship, or ownership of business, property, or financial assets until proven to be a legal resident alien or U.S. citizen or by being the child of at least one legal U.S. citizen or legal Resident Alien. Until then we have Government Of The Rich, By The Rich & For The Rich ruining the U.S.A.
The reason to switch to ETHANOL, HYBRID & ALTERNATIVE CARS/TRUCKS/S.U.V.s couldn't be any clearer by buying MUSLIM OIL we are financing our own U.S. Corporations being sold-out to MUSLIM DICTATORS that support WAHHABI ISLAMIC TERRORIST TEACHING in schools, books, mosques! Documented at

Sell the bombs, but take out the fuses & gut the guidance system.

Saudis won't know one way or the other. Take the money and run. Saudis would find maintenance of the systems 'beneath them' and will let them fall apart.

A_Plague_on_Both_Houses said

Or hardwire their coordinates for Mecca, Medina, and other favorite Islamic tourist destinations.

But none of this is going to happen, we are selling perfectly good, state-of-the-art weaponry to our "good friends" the Saudis. If the weapons are ever used, they will be used against our one true ally in the region, Israel. And as others have pointed out, Saudi influence has totally corrupted the current Administration; there is so far little reason to believe the next Administration, whether Democratic or Republican, will bring any improvement.

I wonder what wisdom there is leaving the Sauds to their own devices and letting them be taken down by those who would like nothing better then to overrun SA and bring down the Royal family with Jihad and take over all the oil and money ? I guess if all the oil in Saudia Arabia, Iraq, Iran and the whole region was under the thumb of said Jihadist (oh and lets not forget that pesky little bomb the Iranians are working on) they could pretty much cripple the West and destroy it by withholding oil.
