I think you hit the nail on the head. He knew, but for some strange Islamic reasoning, he was under no moral obligation to report what he knew.

I strongly suspect that in his twisted Islamic way of thinking, turning these men in would have been serious moral offenense, a sin against Islam. It would have been treason by giving aid and comfort to the Infidel enemy.

I hope the court doesn't let him get away with this. The fact that he was afraid doesn't make him less guilty. He did nothing to stop the others, so he's as guilty as them.

Frankly the natives are getting restless because it seems like "multiculturalism" is a one way street WE THE PEOPLE the NATIVES who can trace our claim on this land back to the magna carta and further are being forced to accept cultures and individuals who's morals and way of life are inferior.
It is an INVASION it is IMPERIALISM..the streets of my land are no longer the same.There will come a time when the NATIVES take to the streets and reclaim what is theirs.
Colonialism has come full circle and we are being told to accept it.Problem is the new invaders are NOT coming here with new ideas,building roads,making water safe,controlling disease etc...quite the opposite.
The same old Marxist economic ideal is being used on MY population.Instead of making everyone poor instead of rich they want to make everyone a savage instead of civilised.

To all hostile residents of MY land..it's time to leave.
